GCSE and A-Level Maths and Physics tuition in Birmingham, taught by a qualified engineer and university lecturer

GCSE and A-Level Maths and Physics tuition in Birmingham, taught by a qualified engineer and university lecturer

I teach one-to-one Maths and Physics to GCSE, A-Level and university students, online and in person around Birmingham. I hold an MSc in Electronics and Electrical Engineering with Distinction from the University of Chester, where I now teach and assess postgraduate students as a visiting lecturer. Alongside that I've been tutoring privately for several years, across GCSE, A-Level and first-year university modules. I've published two international conference papers, so the maths I teach isn't something I learned once and repeat from a textbook. I use it. What I cover: GCSE Maths and Physics, all exam boards including AQA, Edexcel, OCR and Eduqas A-Level Maths, Further Maths and Physics University Maths and engineering modules for science and engineering students Individual topics including algebra, trigonometry, calculus, statistics, mechanics and logic How I teach: Every student starts in a different place, so the first thing I do is find out what they actually understand rather than what the syllabus assumes they should. From there I break difficult ideas into small steps, work through plenty of examples, and set focused practice between sessions. I care more about a student knowing why a method works than memorising the steps, because understanding is what survives exam pressure when a question is worded unfamiliarly. Lessons are structured but relaxed. Students should feel comfortable asking the questions they think are silly, because those are usually the ones that matter most. I'm patient with mistakes and honest about what still needs work. If a student isn't ready for a topic, I'll say so and we'll go back a step rather than pretend otherwise. Term has just started, which is the best point in the year to build a routine before mocks in November and December. If your child is beginning Year 11 or Year 13, or retaking GCSE Maths this November, putting support in place now makes a real difference by the time the real papers arrive.

Structured Math, Physics & Chemistry Tutoring in Switzerland – Passerelle, BMS, Matura, Fachmaturität & QV Preparation

Structured Math, Physics & Chemistry Tutoring in Switzerland – Passerelle, BMS, Matura, Fachmaturität & QV Preparation

Swiss-Focused Mathematics, Physics & Chemistry Tutoring – Passerelle, BMS, Berufsmaturität, Matura, Fachmaturität, QV & Adult Education This class is designed for students and adult learners in Switzerland who want serious, structured and exam-focused support in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. The main focus is preparation for Passerelle, BMS, Berufsmaturität, Matura, Fachmaturität and QV/final apprenticeship exams, as well as support for learners in adult education who are returning to study, changing career direction or preparing for a new academic path. What makes my tutoring different is the strong connection to the Swiss education system. I completed my master’s degree at a University of Applied Sciences in Switzerland and have many years of experience teaching students in Switzerland. This means my lessons are not generic international tutoring. They are built around Swiss school expectations, Swiss exam styles, Swiss curricula and the specific challenges faced by learners in Switzerland. ➜ Special focus on Passerelle preparation The Passerelle is one of the most demanding Swiss pathways because it requires strong discipline, independent thinking and solid exam technique. I help students prepare systematically in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry by working through the required theory, typical task types, old exams and exam-style practice. ➜ BMS and Berufsmaturität support For BMS and Berufsmaturität students, I provide structured help in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, depending on the programme and exam requirements. We focus on building strong foundations, closing gaps and applying methods correctly in exam situations. ➜ Matura and Fachmaturität preparation I support students preparing for Matura and Fachmaturität exams with clear explanations, relevant exercises and a structured learning plan. The lessons help students understand difficult topics, organize their knowledge and gain confidence before important assessments. ➜ QV / final apprenticeship exam preparation Many vocational students need Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry for their QV/final apprenticeship exams, especially in technical, scientific, laboratory, healthcare or engineering-related fields. I help students connect theory with practical calculations and exam-style tasks. ➜ Adult education and returning learners I also work with adult learners who are returning to education after a break, preparing for Passerelle, Berufsmaturität, Fachmaturität, QV or further studies. Adult learners often need a clear, respectful and efficient teaching style. I explain from the foundation upward, without judgment, and help rebuild confidence step by step. ➜ Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry taught with equal seriousness The focus is not only Mathematics. Physics and Chemistry are also important, especially for Passerelle, Matura, Fachmaturität, technical BMS directions, QV exams and later studies. I explain formulas, concepts and calculations clearly so students understand the logic behind the subject. ➜ Old exams and Swiss-style practice Where suitable, I use old exams, typical Swiss exam questions and realistic practice material. Students learn how questions are asked, how to recognize the correct method, how to structure their solutions and how to avoid common mistakes. ➜ Clear step-by-step method Every task is approached with a simple structure: What is given? What is required? Which formula, law or method is suitable? Why does it apply? Then we solve the task step by step with all formulas, calculations and explanations. ➜ Why choose a Swiss-focused tutor? Many tutors may know Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry, but Swiss exams often have their own wording, structure and expectations. Because I studied in Switzerland and have taught Swiss students for years, I can prepare learners in a much more targeted and relevant way. ➜ For serious students who want real progress This class is ideal for students and adult learners who want to pass an important exam, improve their grades, close knowledge gaps, prepare for further studies or gain more confidence in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. ➜ Success-oriented preparation My goal is to help students build real understanding, not just short-term memorization. With clear explanations, structured practice, old exam material and consistent preparation, students can develop the confidence and exam technique needed to perform at their best.

IB Math (SL/HL), A-Levels & SAT Prep - International Curricula

IB Math (SL/HL), A-Levels & SAT Prep - International Curricula

Hi! If your child is tracking the IB Diploma, UK A-Levels, or preparing for the US SAT exam this term, you know how demanding these math curricula can be. I am a native English speaker who relocated from London to Barcelona in 2023. Over the last 4 years across both major cities, I have specialized in helping international school students build genuine confidence, master complex concepts, and overcome math anxiety. I hold a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin - Madison (USA), giving me a strong analytical foundation in mathematics. Additionally, I hold a TEFL certificate, which means I know exactly how to guide students who are navigating complex math topics in English as a native or second language. What my lessons focus on: • Building deep, fundamental understanding instead of just memorizing steps. • Targeted preparation for upcoming school assessments and major exams. • Transforming math anxiety into a confident, problem-solving mindset. • Developing clear, organized study habits tailored to international curricula. Lessons are offered either in-person in Barcelona or online via Zoom using interactive whiteboards, making it seamless to fit into busy family schedules. Please check out the verified reviews on my main profile to see the results other Barcelona families have experienced! Feel free to send me a message here to discuss your child's specific goals and to secure a regular weekly time slot for this term!

He adapts to the student’s pace and is very flexible when it comes to scheduling and learning preferences. He has a strong command of Electrical Engineering topics and is able to explain even complex concepts in a simple and understandable way. Ghous is also very helpful with assignments, even when they are in a different language, which shows both his deep subject knowledge and his adaptability. I’m very satisfied with his lessons and would definitely recommend him to others. ”

“ Miss Sara is a very good teacher. She has a way to keep my 6 year old daughter engaged and encouraged while increasing her abilities in French. I have seen my daughter improve drastically. She challenges her and she started reading many words in the space of 3 months when she could not before in French. The exercises she gives touches a wide range of topics (syllables, vocabulary, sentance building etc) that has allowed my English speakig daughter to cope well in her French school environment. She started understanding what people say to her in French which is amazing. ”
