My name is Jamie and I have been playing drum kit and percussion instruments for over 20 years. I'm well versed when it comes to techniques, rudiments, various styles of music, reading music, writing music, and teaching. At the age of 16, I was not only in three band classes in high school, but was a member of two community groups, Little London Winds and Pikes Peak Philharmonic. Additionally, I've played percussion in orchestra pits for community theater productions for seven years. In 2012, I continued to play with various community concert and orchestral groups, all while coaching my old high school's drumline. In 2015, I joined the military but that didn't stop me from teaching. From 2018-2019, I coached a local high school drumline in Washington State who won an award at regionals for the first time in the schools history. Still in the military, in 2023 I relocated to California City, CA with hopes to tech aspiring individuals. Drum Kit: I started playing drums when I was six years old and am well versed in all styles of music. You, your child, your teen, or whomever you're looking into classes for will learn to read music, techniques, rudiments, and fundamentals. First, we start with the basics and build from there. It may seem boring or lack luster at first, but trust me, once you get the hang of the basics, the fun really begins. These lessons will also help if your teen is in the high school Jazz Band. Percussion/Marching Band: Recently, I have learned that the middle school in town has cut their music program, leaving teens to not be able to get the proper experience and musical education before going to high school. I want to help with that in any way I can. By working with me, your child or teen will be able to work up to the experience needed to get them through high school level classes and extra curricular activities. Since these lessons are to get your kid up to speed, I will be recommending books that they should be practicing will. During the lessons, I will bring my own but for them to get the proper practice, I highly suggest having copies of the books at home and a practice pad. Both: Most students who want to learn drum kit, end up playing percussion in school. For students that want to learn both, they'll get both percussion and drum kit lessons at no extra charge. My job as a private teacher is to help you, your kid, whomever with what ever they need. I do not have a strict curriculum, but I do plan my lessons around the student, their skills, and goals in order to help them be the best they can be.

I am Nigel, a current piano instructor giving out lessons for beginners who want to get into learning the piano or build a consistent practice routine to building foundational piano technique from scratch. I currently offer online lessons from afternoons to late evenings as per your time preferences. Lessons are scheduled hourly and on a weekly basis. I teach based on the student’s learning approach and use methods that are tried and tested by most of the teachers in the piano teaching industry. Teaching style includes a bit of visual cues, practical approach and fun filled lessons with your choice of a favorite piece. Note that most of the repertoire we will cover is from the classical period but I do allow a mix of pop, jazz and blues tunes in our learning repertoire list. Currently Im in the second year B.M degree program at Belmont University and have done years of private lesson tutoring with some other students but on a small scale. In the coming years from now, I intend to expand my teaching expertise by finding other students who are interested in learning from me. My current student Luke (although I teach him in person since I’m based in the U.S) has benefited from my teaching methods and is still my prime student today. He joined back this year in august and loves my teaching approach. He particularly favors visual and practical methods towards certain topics but loves the choice of online / offline classes. If you're local, you can learn to play your instrument at my home studio in Milwaukie, Oregon. Or, for a relatively small added fee, you can take lessons in your own home within about 15 minutes of zip code 97267--approximately as far north as Southeast Portland, Oregon, and south to about West Linn. If you're further away—really anywhere in the world with an internet connection and a videoconferencing app—you can learn to play via Zoom, Facetime, or whatever other video conferencing app you prefer to use. Lessons are tailored to your needs, tastes and skill level. I teach virtually all styles of guitar and electric bass, beginner to pro. I also teach beginner to intermediate banjo. I've taught guitar—including songwriting, composition, and theory—at the Austin Live Music Academy (ALMA) founded by Jerry Jeff Walker. I've taught adults and children at music schools around Portland, and K-12 students in after-school and summer programs at such prestigious private schools as Catlin-Gabel and the German International School.
