My name is Polly and I am a professional opera singer. I am currently performing as a Young Artist with Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam as part of their brand new Studio Programme. Alongside performing, I have a passion for teaching classical singing to students of all ages and abilities. As a newcomer to Amsterdam, I am looking to build my teaching studio and to share my love of singing! Whether you sing purely for your own enjoyment, are preparing for a big audition or performance, or simply just want to know more about how the human voice works, I am here to help! I previously trained at the Royal College of Music (MPerf, Distinction) and the National Opera Studio in London, as well as working for opera companies including Opera Holland Park, Royal Opera House, Pop-Up Opera, Charles Court Opera, and British Youth Opera. I also achieved ABRSM Grade 8 Piano and Voice (both Distinction), so I am able to provide piano accompaniment in lessons. Prior to my Masters training at the RCM, I studied Molecular Biology and Biochemistry (BSc Hons) at Durham University, which included modules in Animal Physiology. I am therefore fascinated by and have a deep understanding of how the human voice functions. I teach using the SATS model devised by my teacher Janice Chapman, which uses evidence-based science to teach the fundamentals of classical singing. So, no matter what stage you are in your vocal training, I will be able to help to build and strengthen your vocal technique and help you towards vocal freedom and experience true joy in your singing! Languages I sing in include English, Italian, German, French, and, to a lesser extent, Czech and Russian. I have received the input of many world-class language coaches over the years, so I am happy to coach you through the sounds and meaning of texts in these languages.

Trusted teacher: Hello all! I am a Mexican Musicologist and singer based in Amsterdam. I have been teaching for almost 7 years to different age ranges. //During the Singing lessons you will learn how to breathe and use the 'right' muscles for singing, voice exercises, repertoire and how to improve your music ear, it is basically a relaxing therapy, trust me. We will find together and based on your taste what songs you would like to work on! // The Music Theory lessons are for the ones who want to learn how to read music scores, no matter your level for sure I can keep challenging you with exercises and funny dynamics. Please be patient, to learn music language takes time... //In Music History I specialize in Classical repertoire, so why is Beethoven so good? Why is Mozart so famous around the world? what should you 'listen' when you listen academic music? Adding to this I also compare the music development with other arts and movements, so bring enough paper and pens for this lesson!

Trusted teacher: Solfège is one of these indispensable tools that contributes to the development of musical hearing. With that a basis can be formed for the general musical understanding. Through my role as a student assistant of various theory subjects (including solfège) at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, I have had the opportunity to teach students with many different ages and backgrounds. My approach: • The lessons are always in line with the environment and the theoretical knowledge that the student already has. • Creative thinking is used in the lessons. This is done, for example, by improvising melodies or coming up with a second voice based on feeling. • I also encourage critical thinking and listening. I do this by not giving too much pre-chewed information, but by an experiential approach. • In practice I use different solfège methods (tonic sol-fa, or using numbers in a scale). My experience has shown that not every system is ideal for everyone. That is why I am flexible in my approach and I will always coordinate this on my students.

I will show you and teach you different singing techniques and guide you towards finding your personal and unique voice. I will adapt to your needs and will help you to achieve and surpass your goals! I strongly believe that: "The voice is an all-powerful instrument, capable of expressing deep feelings that perhaps no other musical instrument can do. It is directly connected with the soul and becomes the audible expression of it. It converts the invisible into visible, creates new sounds and colors, transforms emotion into music. The voice is a tool to discover, subject to continuous evolution and expansion; expansion that goes beyond our imaginable limits."

Trusted teacher: Your sound of vital importance. Food, attention, physical hugs, a change or sleep; as a baby you know that your parents recognize that by your tone (vowels). As you grow and add co-vowels, you can make words with your voice, and express your opinion, connect people to you. IDENTITY Furthermore, voice color, your dialect / language, tempo and choice of words determine your identity. One comment about your voice has a huge impact and limits your freedom to speak or perhaps even dare to sing. EXHAUST VALVE You can therefore experience both emotionally and physically. Using your voice nicely, and especially freely, is super healthy. Restoring the energy balance in your body because the happiness hormone Dopamine and Oxytocin are released when you hear music and / or sing, helps vague complaints and a tense feeling disappear like snow in the sun. So problems with your voice or do you experience fatigue when talking? Come and work on it and dare to speak up and make your voice heard in public. Learn to enjoy, and at least appreciate, something that is such an essential part of you. Working on your voice is healing for your soul, and it makes you happy and calm. You also make easier and better decisions because your right and left hemispheres work together better, are connected. Creativity and flow arise from this. A wonderful feeling.

Joana - Amsterdam$43
Trusted teacher: I am a singer studying in the Utrecht Conservatorium and recorder player graduated from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I can teach you recorder and singing and adapt to your tastes and needs. For both instruments, I focus, as a teacher and performer, on a healthy, joyful and technically skilled way of playing and singing. With my students, I focus not only on the instrument sound production, but also on body posture, relaxation and organic movement. An happy and relaxed body produces a beautiful, natural and relaxed sound. What music style would you like to learn? Would you like to play folk music, to sing pop songs or walk through a more classical path? I have experience in different areas, having sang and played folk and jazz music and also classically trained for many years. I can also help you with music theory, from the basic introduction to music to advanced solfeggi and rhythms. I graduated in Musicology and studied Music Pedagogy in Portugal before moving to Amsterdam. For little children, I can also combine the playing of the instrument with more didactic activities mixed with body movement and dance! I have several years of teaching experience both with adults and children, in group or individual setting. And the most important of all, is that you fall in love with music, all kinds of music, and have loads of fun in the process!

Some people treat the voice as a mystery, but it's not. It's strange why many people, even singers, know so little about it. Understanding your instrument will give you a roadmap, so you won't take strange turns and damage it. Another pillar or my lesson system is bodywork. Time and again I've seen massive improvements in how my students sounded after they started taking yoga classes. A lifesaver, a voice changer. Learn about yoga, Alexander technique, and other bodywork that will improve your voice. I myself have the past shied away from bodywork. Priority singing lessons without working on the entire instrument. Trying to make sounds, do vocal exercises and hope for the best. Hoping that my body would cooperate without me really knowing how to operate it. No chance. Because that's like trying to play guitar on just strings and no body, or like an electric guitar that isn't plugged. Like banging your head against the wall if you want to go from one room to the other.
My teaching method meets the student's needs. Above all, I try to make people keep their passion and taste for music and my main goal is to make music or art a pleasure and not a sacrifice. I motivate students, showing them the benefits of exploring their unique talents, but also not hiding the need for continuous work and with some obstacles, sometimes difficult, to overcome. I let the students bring their own musical choices and, over time, I also recommend material that I think may be useful for a faster, simpler, and more efficient evolution. As I said, I focus on the pleasure of singing but also on the technique that allows us to achieve the best results with less effort. I hope that my way of teaching will work with you, but we always have to adapt to the needs and personalities of each one. Come and try it!

The classical/contemporary pan flute has developed only in the last 20 years which concluded with composers writing for this instrument and educators to develop a teaching program. The instrument has been very famous in world music for centuries, therefore the oral transmission played and still plays an important role in teaching and developing the techniques of the instrument. I've been teaching the pan flute for 4 years and playing the instrument for more than 14 years with experience in different styles: folk, classic and contemporary My style is based on demonstration, involving the student in the process of understanding the techniques of the instrument as well as the reasons behind certain musical styles in order to help them achieve confidence and a better interpretation. I use most of the time the brainstorming strategy to help students generate questions and ideas and get creative like in improvising, writing their own melodies, etc. In matters of musical interpretation, I encourage experimenting with phrases, musical colors, rhythms, musical direction, and music analysis.
