All this is acquired little by little by playing specific exercises and solos, pieces or saxophone studies. By learning and memorizing melodies or solos by ear, you develop your ear, your sense of rhythm and your memory. Free improvisation allows you to develop your inner singing and your musical personality. Finally, working with a metronome or directly on recordings will help you improve your rhythmic ear. I started with jazz then curiosity pushed me to study classical saxophone for 3 years before specializing in tenor and jazz. My first lesson with Carlos was great! Not only is he a skilled clarinetist, but he has a very hands-on approach to teaching that is especially helpful for those just beginning or starting up again after a long break. Though I remembered very little of the clarinet before our first lesson, he immediately made me comfortable getting back into the swing of things and gave me many helpful pointers to regain my bearings. Daniel is a really nice guy who listens carefully to what you want to achieve and takes the time to find out what you already know and understand. I went into the first lesson without much of a plan and found myself buying a practice pad right after to start practicing.
