My musical learning was also furthered by postgraduate musicological studies at Royal Holloway and serious interests in philosophy, religions, history, civilization, literature, poetry, law, languages as well as many other things. I loved my musical journey which included not only piano but also composition, the violin, recorder, flute, harpsichord and clavichord from childhood onwards. In the last two decades, teaching has been giving meaning to my life and I enjoy helping others to find fulfillment as well as joy in their learning. My teaching approach is comprehensive, builds up confidence and incorporates a multidisciplinary orientation thanks to which students get promptly enthused over their learning. There is a focus on enhancing musical understanding, developing or improving reading skills, building up technique, expanding repertoire in a healthy way and foundationally preventing or sorting out injuries as well as pain-related problems. Although my teaching style is primarily quality-oriented with regards to skills, I believe that happiness, confidence, results and a sane sense of achievement are important components to balance in holistic education and offer a non-judgemental, patient, kind, equality-oriented, multicultural environment in which learning can thrive. I encourage students to perform in concerts, festivals, exams and competitions. Many have won prizes in numerous competitions and passed exams with distinctions. Others have improved their technical skills as well as understanding of music, thus opening more doors and finding professional opportunities in the world of music.

I provide piano lesson for beginning, intermediate and advanced students, preparing them for piano exams up to grade 8, including the necessary aural and music theory training. I also teach pre-school children from the age of 3 as well as children with disabilities, adjusting the music program to their needs. When working with young children I focus on developing their musical imagination and curiosity, while also providing them with technical skills and a detailed understanding of the musical score. I aim to provide a firm basis on which they can build a western classical repertoire, or any other musical style they choose. For beginners I work with one of the early piano syllabi, usually Thompson's 'Easiest Piano Course' or Oxford's piano method book 'Piano Time,' which consist of fun songs and simple melodies. Through this the pupil is gradually introduced to various aspects of the melody (such as pitch, duration of notes, phrasing and articulation) and coordination of both hands on the keyboard in a creative and stimulating way. At this stage I place a strong emphasis on proper body posture and hand position. As the pupil acquires fundamental piano skills and gets comfortable reading music I proceed with them through the ABRSM or Trinity piano syllabus to a more advanced repertoire. Throughout a student’s education, I incorporate sight reading, scales exercises and technical work into the lesson structure and daily practice routine of the pupil. I also focus on developing my students’ understanding of how music theory applies to the material they play. Applying Musicological knowledge and own performing experience I teach students in depth analyses of the music they play, guide their individual interpretation and bring their awareness to the specifics of a historically informed performance. My pupils play a broad variety of western classical styles, and I will work with them to balance their program and maximise their enjoyment and appreciation for music. The student will become familiar with the main forms and stylistic traits of baroque, classical, romantic and 20th century Western classical music. I will also make sure the pieces stay challenging technically and if needed I will provide additional materials which will help the student to focus on the areas which need most work on. Though not usually covered in exam syllabi, I am happy to work alongside the student on pieces which do not necessarily fit into the Western classical canon, should they so wish. Playing and learning an instrument should primarily bring joy, and as a result inspire the student’s dedication to practice and foster a willingness to work hard. I believe in the importance of the relationship between teacher and student and as such provide the needed mental support and encouragement. I adopt an intuitive pupil-centred approach to learning that will best support their passion for making music. Attention to detail is paramount, and staying attuned to the needs of the student is always a priority. As such, I will adjust the tempo of the program to meet goals at a pace that is ideal for both the pupil’s ability and well-being.

Trusted teacher: I have been playing the violin and piano for over 20 years now, graduating in 2015 from the Royal College of Music with a first-class bachelor's degree in violin performance, and have recently started an Advanced Diploma in Performance at the Royal Academy of Music. I have performed extensively all over the UK as a soloist, most notably as a strings finalist on BBC young musician of the year, and at the Battle Proms concert series to audiences of up to 12,000. I've also delved into the Folk world a little and was on tv for the BBC Radio 2 folk awards as part of Jim Moray's band! I started officially teaching at 17, coaching local teachers more advanced students. From there I became Professor Berent Korfker's private assistant at 18, teaching his younger students from the Purcell School and alike. Being able to work with such talented students was extremely inspiring and excited me to start my own class with complete beginners on both violin and piano. I now have a hugely mixed class in both ability and age (4 to over 50!) with a 100% pass rate in their exams. My approach has always depended on the student's age, ability, and character. For younger students, I incorporate games, with them often wondering how the lessons finished so quickly! I like to create a fun environment for musical development where questions are encouraged, and all students are taught how to teach themselves and apply techniques learned in the lesson to the practice room.

The focus will be on deconstructing different works, exploring what their musical elements are and investigating what commonality these have across the boundaries of genre or instrumentation. Students will have experience of composing original musical elements and arranging these elements into complete compositions.

Reading and writing are brought about by creation and musical composition. For the more experienced, polyphony and difficult passages can be approached with different tools, by awareness of harmony and melodic modes and polyrhythm. Sometimes it is enough to be aware of simplicity to overcome difficult passages. I push to go further in the quality of the interpretation with simple means to better understand the music and thus allow more expressiveness and freedom. I also offer improvisation, harmony, lessons in musical ensembles, especially vocal polyphony for children, and lessons for specific needs, for example just intonation for singers or other instruments.
