Music Theory Lessons for Children and Adults (Grades 1-8 ABRSM)Translate this text using Google Translate.

Music Theory Lessons for Children and Adults (Grades 1-8 ABRSM)Translate this text using Google Translate.

As an experienced music theory tutor and professional pianist, I use a curriculum established by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) in the UK to guide students from grades 1-8 (beginning up to early-advanced levels) towards mastery of music theory. We can start from the beginning and work your way up, or find a suitable level based on prior knowledge. My students regularly achieve highest marks in the ABRSM exams following this system. However, if exams are not your goal, and you would simply like a deeper level of theoretical understanding of your music pieces, we apply the insights gained from this course directly to the pieces you are studying without a lot of stress. Course components include: Notation and solfège Rhythm Meter Scales + Arpeggios Intervals Chords Cadences Harmonic Function Form and Analysis My background in music theory derives from my professional musical training in the USA where I followed advanced honors-level music theory, ear-training, musical analysis, and orchestral conducting courses in addition to my regular piano performance studies. The insights provided from these analytical courses have proved immensely beneficial to my own life as a pianist. This knowledge not only speeds up the learning process for a musical piece, but also increases confidence in performance by enhancing memorization skills and providing a higher level of awareness of the components which drive musical phrasing and expression. A knowledge of music theory is therefore a crucial element for proficiency of any instrument and a huge aid to any serious music student.

Music lessons in piano, harpsichord, for all ages and levels.Translate this text using Google Translate.

Music lessons in piano, harpsichord, for all ages and levels.Translate this text using Google Translate.

Lessons in piano or harpsichord, with program and repertoire, adapted to the goals and speed of each student, whether young, not so young, or adult, for a general introduction to these instruments, for preparation for high music education, as a supplementary aid for exams in music academies, or for a hobby, or for amateur group music-making, or for developing qualities as concentration, discipline, expressibility, awareness of styles and music history. In my teaching, I rely mostly on old traditional methods, books, and repertoire, which have proved their efficiency over the time. I also make use of the teaching tradition of partimenti of the old Neapolitan conservatories - exercises for composing that can be applied from early stage. This not only adds a creative element soon after very beginning, but also teaches via practice the basics of harmony and polyphony. Lessons can be combined (+30min.) with theory/solfege (ear training), if the student wishes. English, Nederlands, française, Deutsch. I have been teaching for about 20 years, privately, in Brussels, and in New York in the past, more than 100 students. I am a graduate of Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel, in baroque cello and harpsichord, but I play also modern cello, organ, and piano.

Music theory + piano lessons for beginners and advanced students - all age levelsTranslate this text using Google Translate.

Music theory + piano lessons for beginners and advanced students - all age levelsTranslate this text using Google Translate.

Have you always wanted not just to play notes, but to truly understand music? Music is not mechanical training. It is thinking, feeling, structuring, imagining, and being free at the same time. I am a musicologist, composer, pianist, organist, and harpsichordist with two academic degrees (Composition & Musicology), more than 10 years of teaching experience, and an active international concert career across Europe. My students study at prestigious music academies, perform on European stages, and develop artistic identity and confidence. I combine academic precision with creative freedom and a supportive atmosphere. Each student receives an individual learning plan. I adapt my method depending on age, level, and goals — whether it is: - first musical steps at 4–6 years old - hobby lessons for adults - serious professional preparation - exam or competition preparation Thanks to my background in musicology, composition, and even neuroaesthetics research, I help students: - understand how music works - develop musical thinking - improve memory and artistic expression - build a technical foundation without tension - gain confidence in performance Send me a message — and we will create your personal musical path. Music is not only about playing. It is about discovering yourself through sound.

“ An excellent piano teacher, patient, encouraging, and genuinely attentive to the needs of the student. Concepts are explained clearly. The lessons are well structured and offer a good balance between technique, musical understanding, and playing for enjoyment. The atmosphere remains relaxed and positive, which helps build confidence and motivation. What stands out most is the patience and ability to adapt the lessons to the student’s pace, level, and interests. Progress feels natural. I would highly recommend this teacher to anyone looking for a skilled, dependable, and supportive piano teacher. ”

“ I had my first lesson today and I was immediately struck with the feeling that I am in the presence of a maestro in Piano playing, a professor in teaching and an extremely patient pedagogue. It was like Lydia knew me for years and instantaneously detected my strengths and my weaknesses in my piano playing and practice. I am an adult student and I highly recommend Lydia for all ages and all levels. An exceptional teacher that provides and exceptional lesson experience. ”

“ Theophile is an excellent teacher for Piano. My son started his piano lessons with Theophile recently and from the very first lesson, it was clear that he is not only a talented musician but also a wonderful educator. Theophile has a genuine passion for music that is very evident. The supportive atmosphere he creates allows my son to explore and express himself musically while building a solid foundation in technique. Thank you Theophile for your great support so far! ”
