I am currently studying jazz at the Vienna Music Institute (Conservatory of Contemporary Music). I have studied classical guitar for 5 years, electric guitar for another 5 years, and jazz guitar for a year and a half. I can teach you music theory concepts ranging from fundamentals like chords, intervals, scales, and arpeggios to the more advanced: circle of fifths, modes, tensions, and triads. Regarding the technical aspect of guitar playing, I can create a good practice routine for the improvement of different styles of playing such as alternate picking, fingerpicking, legato, taping, hybrid picking, economy picking, etc. Although these concepts may sound frightening at first, I can help you understand them more easily. The lessons are thought to be suitable for beginners who never picked up a guitar before, intermediate players who know some songs and fundamentals but don't know what to do next, and advanced players who want to deepen their skills. I can also help you build a good foundation for improvising over any tune you like, help you master composition, and teach you music-making and recording programs such as Reaper, to be able to start your solo projects. I will provide my personal insights regarding what I think you should improve, but I can also just help you learn something specific like a song you want to play.

Trusted teacher: I am possibly the most highly qualified, experienced teacher that you will find (30 years experience). I teach Ph.D., postgraduate university students right down to beginners. Please note that all lessons are online so you can relax in the comfort of your own home. Many of my pupils become professional musicians. I have taught at Conservatoire (Royal Northern College of Music) and have been an examiner for the Royal College of Organists diplomas (I am an academy teacher for the RCO). I have had pupils as young as 15 gain diplomas. I am classically trained with the highest level music qualification (a Ph.D.) and have topped the jazz piano charts too (no. 1 in the UK, no. 33 globally) and so even improvisation can be a topic to study. I also teach singing in all styles classical, pop, and musical theatre with pupils taking exams right through to diploma. I teach lessons on Zoom that are enjoyable and thorough. I am also an expert in the aural (listening) aspect of examinations with some of my research being published by Routledge currently (I am a Kodaly influenced practitioner and able to teach using solfege to a high level). I teach high-level paperwork for those taking diplomas and degrees too. My lessons are engaging and cover a wide range of tasks to ensure fun with a deep understanding. My theory lessons teach through playing so they are much more enjoyable and you learn to understand through what you are doing. Please note that all of my international lessons are online. Singing lessons are not only an opportunity to learn singing and something new about music but also an opportunity to express emotions, forget about everyday worries, and have fun! Through music theory lessons you can learn about the structure of music and also develop some very useful music skills such as reading music (sight-singing or sight-reading). All students who have a specific goal in mind, but also all who do not have any specific goal in mind and want to sing or learn theory just for fun, are very welcome! Different options for lessons that I am offering are described below and all of them can be modified and adjusted according to the wishes and needs of the student: SINGING LESSONS FOR CHILDREN (individual or group lessons - maximum 10 students*) Singing lessons for children is basically an integrated method that combines singing with solfeggio, developing basic music theory skills. It consists of playing musical games and singing children's songs and those developing intonation, musical hearing, musical memory, sense for pulse and rhythm, all with attention to healthy singing. SINGING LESSONS FOR TEENAGERS AND ADULTS (individual or group lessons - maximum 10 students*) During singing lessons, we will be searching for a deeper meaning of the story and different ways of interpretation, with attention to healthy singing techniques, pronunciation, and style. The lessons consist of breathing exercises, and vocal warm-up exercises with a specific technical goal and work on the desired repertoire - meaning of the words and story, vocal technique, pronunciation, interpretation, and style. My specialization is in classical singing but I don’t mind working on other genres in my classes. SIGHT SINGING LESSONS (individual or group lessons) Intense course where you will be learning how to read music at sight. The lessons consist of sight singing only, beginning from the easiest level and gradually learning how to read more and more difficult music. You will develop skills needed for sight singing as well as a certain way of thinking appropriate for sight singing. (There is no technique of singing or interpretation involved in these lessons.) SOLFEGGIO LESSONS (individual or group lessons, for children from 8 years old, teenagers, and adults) In these lessons, you will learn how to bring written music to life (sight-singing), how to discover and put on paper the music you hear (musical dictation), and how to build scales, intervals, and chords. This knowledge is needed and examined in every conservatoire and music academy. For some conservatoires and academies, this is an obligatory pre-requirement and elimination factor on entrance exams. It is an inevitable part of every professional music education. MUSIC THEORY LESSONS (individual lessons) Music theory lessons can include, if desired: solfeggio, harmony, counterpoint, music form, analysis, and/or other music theory-related subjects. For each subject, we can make a special program, depending on the wishes and needs of the student. COMBINED SOLFEGGIO AND SINGING LESSONS Combined solfeggio and singing lessons are also possible for adults, as separate subjects or integrated with singing lessons. In both cases, the duration of each lesson is 90 minutes and the program is discussed and created based on the wishes and needs of the student. Highly recommended! It was really nice to receive a message from Lou regarding our search for guitar lessons! Due to corona and a closed school, my 13 year old had more time to play guitar and she wanted to learn more about composition/scales. What a great session! I wish I'd found her sooner! She's very knowledgable - repertoire, technique, the science behind it all etc, as well as being very approachable and encouraging.
