Trusted teacher: Former student of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, editor-in-chief of the magazine Avant-Scène Opéra, editor for the Philharmonie du Luxembourg, I offer you the following lessons. Music theory and musical culture are essential tools for understanding and making music. Music theory, because it allows you to master the technical tools that allow you to make music, is fundamental for anyone who wants to progress in their instrument. Musical culture makes it possible to understand what goes on in music beyond the technique. From this knowledge (established over a lot of listening) we can develop an interpretation and go beyond technical issues. For music theory lessons only, I constantly articulate the different musical parameters (rhythm, intonation, ear, etc.) and draw my training from the repertoire, which has the advantage of making music from the start. Small technical exercises also allow you to focus on one or the other parameter, but the perspective remains mainly that of a global approach placing the music at the center. As far as musical culture is concerned, I use each of my professional experiences (Musicologist, playwright and music critic) to transmit my knowledge to you. Thus we will approach the history of music through works (history of forms and languages), interpretation and places of music. It is mainly through the study of documents (texts of musical criticism, iconography, scores, musical instruments...) that transmission takes place. Knowledge completes and informs this documentary study. Finally the study of document and the erudition have only one goal: to enlighten the listening of the works which I place at the heart of my teaching.

His first teacher is Vittorio Marinoni, then replaced by Stefano Bertoli. During the last few years, he plays in several Rock / Metal / Progressive groups in the area of Bergamo (Italy), improving different techniques and refining double pedal skills. Thanks to his mentor Stefano Bertoli, Francesco continues his studies and plays in various Funk/Latin/Fusion/Jazz groups. He also attends jazz music classes held by Tino Tracanna, Stefano Bertoli and Attilio Zanchi, as well as Sandro Gibellini and Sergio Orlandi, where he has the opportunity to improve his improvisation techniques and styles. His meetings with the Mexican artist Israel Varela and his passion for Latin Music, leads him to a full and complete understanding of the language of this specific music genre. Thanks to Maxx Furian, he also has the opportunity to refine his technique. Francesco is now working in cooperation with several groups, playing live music: Mind the Gap (Metalcore), Acid Frogs (Acid Jazz, Drum ‘n Bass, Electronic Music) and Latina Turner (Latin Jazz) as well as LigaStory (a cover tribute band to Luciano Ligabue, where he occasionally plays live with Max Cottafavi e Federico Poggipollini). He works as an independent teacher in Suonintorno School in Gorle, Bergamo (Italy). Recording studio collaboration with emerging artists allows Francesco to refine his studio techniques and sounds.

Trusted teacher: I am an eclectic and curious musician, before any contrabassist. I am also a composer and arranger. After a master of sociology I make the decision to train myself professionally; I return simultaneously to the conservatory of Agen in jazz and conservatory of Bordeaux in classical to learn bass. Then, in 2014, I confirm a National Superior Professional Musician Diploma at the Pole Supérieur Paris Boulogne Billancourt through the training at the Didier Lockwood Music Center. I was trained retrospectively by Jean-Paul Macé, Kent Carter, Gilles Naturel, Marc-Michel Lebevillon, Cristian Diaz, Jean Michel Charbonel, Chris Jennings, Cristophe Dal-sasso, and Carine Bonnefoy (for writing). All these people have nourished my love and passion for music, which remains for me a long way to explore in search of new knowledge. It is the diversity of cultures and the wealth of knowledge that drives me to continue to study everything within my reach. I'm interested in jazz, classical music, Indian music, rock and electronic music ... I hate taboos and separations between the musical worlds and I think that everyone wins to share their knowledge and their modes of operation. My way of thinking about learning Music: I prefer to stay on a principle of pleasure and sharing specific to music. I find it important to adapt to feed the motivation of the student, especially for young people with whom it is very important to have a fun approach. Too many students leave demotivated classes of music schools or conservatory; that I practiced for 5 years (since despite my criticisms I still have a prize of jazz conservatory and I followed the training to obtain the DE of jazz which is a diploma of pedagogy). This involves learning the mechanisms based on improvisation, understanding chords, rhythm and melody. Regarding the repertoire I am based on the culture of the students, after all they are the main concerned! So the choices of the pieces depend on the desires and the tastes. The mode of learning depends on the musical style approached, for example I will not make music theory to someone who wants to play the AC / DC (unless he wishes) conversely a person who wants to address jazz can hardly do without notions about harmony. The purpose of this approach is to develop the independence of the student. The teacher is there to accompany the student at the beginning; he must not become a guardian who can sometimes be transformed over the years into a crutch! This is my way of seeing pedagogy!

Giorgia

I started my lessons with Giorgia four months ago, and I am so glad to have found her. As a 26-year-old beginner, I was not sure if I should even try to pursue learning an instrument at this point. But now I am so glad I did! I am learning online, and I was a little unsure of how lessons via webcam would go. Despite my prejudice, everything turned out great, even though my setup is quite basic. Her approach to teaching is very creative. She is able to explain things that seem hard to put into words, and she always finds comparisons and descriptions that convey clearly little details of approach that make a lot of difference in the end result. For any difficulty I encountered, she presented methods of exercise that helped correct it. Another thing that I appreciate is that from one lesson to the next, the volume of work is challenging enough that I feel I am making progress, but not to the point that I am overwhelmed. Also, even though I am just beginning and the pieces are not that complex, she explains the musical interpretation in a way that not only helps me advance my skill but also enriches the way I understand and listen to music, and I find great value in that. Her manner of teaching is very organic, and she is a patient teacher with a warm presence. I wholeheartedly recommend her lessons!

David

I had previously played some classical for a few years, but was looking to learn jazz piano and improvisation as well. For this David is ideal, as he studied both as a classical and jazz musician, and has a deep understanding of each. About half the lessons we focus on jazz improvisation. During the lessons I improvise over a few songs, and each session he gives feedback, while adding a new layer of difficulty. We've also worked a lot on rhythm, which has really helped me bridge the gap between classical and jazz. We spent a few lessons on classical pieces as well, to refine technique and musicality. My playing feels much more fluid and musical already, and he's really helpful/knowledgeable with the details. Also, on the weeks where I did have not had much time to practice, we do a more (jazz) theory oriented lesson, which has also helped alot with my improvisation. Overall, I only have positive things to say about the lessons! David is a very easy-going teacher, and from the first lesson I felt very comfortable asking him questions. He's very versatile as well, and easily adapts the lesson according to what suits us best that week.

Mary has been great in our interactions. At the moment, we are meeting twice a week for an hour each session. She started with a class in which we got to know each other and she listen to my goals. Then, she prepared exercises and lessons specially designed to help me reach those goals with practice and also prepared lessons to help me continue growing as a guitar player. Moreover, she goes often out of her way to get songs challenging to my level, but that are doable with enough practice. In all, I am enjoying quite a lot of our classes and I am always looking forward to them.
