Music Theory & Harmony lessons for beginners and advanced students - all age levelsTranslate this text using Google Translate.

Music Theory & Harmony lessons for beginners and advanced students - all age levelsTranslate this text using Google Translate.

Have you always wanted not just to play notes, but to truly understand how music works? Music theory is not dry rules or mechanical training. It is thinking, feeling, structuring, imagining, and being free at the same time. I am a musicologist, composer, pianist, organist, and harpsichordist with two academic degrees (Composition & Musicology), more than 10 years of teaching experience, and an active international concert career across Europe. My students study at prestigious music academies, perform on European stages, and develop artistic identity and confidence. I combine academic precision with creative freedom and a supportive atmosphere. Each student receives an individual learning plan. I adapt my method depending on age, level, and goals — whether it is: - first steps in music theory (4–6 years old, playful format) - support lessons for instrumental students - harmony and polyphony for composers - preparation for entrance exams, competitions, or conservatory studies Thanks to my background in musicology, composition, and neuroaesthetics research, I help students: - understand harmony, form, and musical structure - think analytically and creatively at the same time - connect theory with real repertoire - develop inner hearing and musical memory - gain confidence in exams and performances Send me a message — and we will build your personal path into the logic and beauty of music. Music theory is not only about rules. It is about discovering the architecture of sound — and discovering yourself through it.

A native of Rio de Janeiro, Felipe Olivé began his piano studies under the guidance of Professor Marcilda Clis. Upon entering UNIRIO, he started taking lessons with the pianist and composer Claudio Dauelsberg. He holds a degree in piano from the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe in Germany, where he was a student of Professor Kaya Han. He spent 2 years in Portugal, where he taught at the Academia de Música de Almada. He also received guidance from Professor and pianist Manuel Araújo of the Academia Internacional de Música Aquilles Delle Vigne in Coimbra. Currently, he is pursuing a Master's degree in Piano Performance at LUCA School of Arts in Belgium, with the renowned pianist Sylvia Thereza as his teacher. He has been awarded in national and international competitions, such as the VII Sardoal Young Talent Award (2nd Prize - ex-aequo in the Piano Solo category; 2nd Prize and Best Portuguese Duo in the Piano Duo category), the Prof. Dichler-Competition 2022 in Vienna (2nd Prize - ex aequo in the Piano Duo category), the I National Piano Competition of the Villa-Lobos Music School (Honorable Mention) in Rio de Janeiro, and the XXVI Souza Lima Piano Competition (Honorable Mention) in São Paulo. Felipe has years of experience as a concert pianist and teacher in academies and music schools. He seeks the most suitable approach for each student, respecting their learning pace, helping overcome difficulties, and exploring their strengths, always encouraging progress.

Music Theory Lessons for Children and Adults (Grades 1-8 ABRSM)Translate this text using Google Translate.

Music Theory Lessons for Children and Adults (Grades 1-8 ABRSM)Translate this text using Google Translate.

As an experienced music theory tutor and professional pianist, I use a curriculum established by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) in the UK to guide students from grades 1-8 (beginning up to early-advanced levels) towards mastery of music theory. We can start from the beginning and work your way up, or find a suitable level based on prior knowledge. My students regularly achieve highest marks in the ABRSM exams following this system. However, if exams are not your goal, and you would simply like a deeper level of theoretical understanding of your music pieces, we apply the insights gained from this course directly to the pieces you are studying without a lot of stress. Course components include: Notation and solfège Rhythm Meter Scales + Arpeggios Intervals Chords Cadences Harmonic Function Form and Analysis My background in music theory derives from my professional musical training in the USA where I followed advanced honors-level music theory, ear-training, musical analysis, and orchestral conducting courses in addition to my regular piano performance studies. The insights provided from these analytical courses have proved immensely beneficial to my own life as a pianist. This knowledge not only speeds up the learning process for a musical piece, but also increases confidence in performance by enhancing memorization skills and providing a higher level of awareness of the components which drive musical phrasing and expression. A knowledge of music theory is therefore a crucial element for proficiency of any instrument and a huge aid to any serious music student.

🎼 Music theory & music theory clearly explained, with examples on the pianoTranslate this text using Google Translate.

Do you have trouble reading music? Do you love listening to music, but don't understand time signatures, keys or chords? Music theory often sounds abstract, but with the right explanation and concrete examples it suddenly becomes a lot more logical, and even fun :) For whom? - Beginner or advanced musicians who want to better understand what they are doing. - Students preparing for music theory exams (e.g. music school, entrance exams). - Independent artists/producers who want to deepen their musical knowledge. - Anyone who is curious about the language behind music. What can you expect? - Clear explanation, at your own pace. - Theory made immediately applicable with examples on the piano. - Extra attention to insight instead of learning dry rules by heart. - Tutoring fully tailored to your level and goal (classical, pop, songwriting, production, ...). About me I obtained a Grade 8 diploma in Music Theory and also a Grade 8 Piano from the Royal Schools of Music. In addition, I hold a diploma in Audio Engineering from Hofa College. I am active as a music artist and producer myself. Thanks to this combination of classical training and practical experience, I know how important it is to make theory understandable, concrete, and musical. I use my own piano during lessons to clarify everything visually and audibly. Possible topics: - Learn to read music. - Scales, chords & harmony. - Form and analysis (classical, jazz or pop). - Rhythm, time signatures & tempo. - Music theory for producers/songwriters. - Songwriting. - Preparation for exams or entrance tests. Practical - 1-on-1 lessons, online or live (if you don't live too far away). - I provide materials, or we work with what you need. - No prior knowledge required. Lessons adapted to your level. 🎶 Feel free to send me a message with your questions or goals. We'll see how I can best help you.

“ First of all: Caterina is less serieus than she looks on her profile picture ;). She has a very kind and patient approach to the lesson, and I believe has the capacity to motivate and get the best out of the student, regardless their age or level of playing. On the technical side, I only had a few lessons so far, but already received recommendations and exercices which hit the nail, allowing me to improve my playing. The selected pieces are elaborated into detail. Good teacher for me and I'm sure for other ages/level of playing as well. So in case of doubt, don't doubt. ”

“ I had my first lesson today and I was immediately struck with the feeling that I am in the presence of a maestro in Piano playing, a professor in teaching and an extremely patient pedagogue. It was like Lydia knew me for years and instantaneously detected my strengths and my weaknesses in my piano playing and practice. I am an adult student and I highly recommend Lydia for all ages and all levels. An exceptional teacher that provides and exceptional lesson experience. ”

“ Catarina creates a joyful, engaging, and highly professional learning environment. She connects exceptionally well with teenagers and keeps them motivated in their piano learning. She is also very easy to reach for scheduling and is extremely flexible with any changes. We are very happy with our choice and highly recommend her. ”
