Trusted teacher: Approach to Teaching – I favour a structured approach. I devise lesson plans in advance of every lesson, catered to the student's specific needs. – Violin lessons tend to be carefully planned to focus on specific technical aspects of performance. To train musicality, I often teach this through the use of Kreutzer and Fiorillo etudes, Dont studies, and also pieces of repertoire catered to the student's musical interests and technical requirements. – I am open to considering student repertoire suggestions if they are particularly passionate about a certain piece. Lesson Structure – Typically violin lessons range in length from 30 minutes to an hour, but I am flexible: I am more than happy to devise a lesson structure that caters for a student's requirements. Credentials – I am a Musicology PhD candidate at the University of Cambridge. – I have worked as a private violin teacher for 7 years (since I was 17). I have taught a variety of students, from beginners starting their instrumental training, to more advanced performers looking to improve their technical facility and performance skills. – I have performed at West Road Concert Hall (University of Cambridge), The Lee Tseng Hall (Wolfson College Cambridge), Buxton International Festival, Manchester International Festival, and The Bridgewater Hall. – I have an extensive portfolio of performing credits on documentary films; recent highlights include the docuseries on Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein 'House of Maxwell' (BBC2, 2022), and 'Sir Alex Ferguson: Never Give In' (Netflix) (Passion Pictures / Universal Pictures) (2021). Performance Credits: Soundtrack: House of Maxwell (BBC2) (2022) *Score nominated for BAFTA award Sir Alex Ferguson: Never Give In (Netflix) (Passion Pictures / Universal Pictures) (2021) The Schnoz (Premiered at the Jewish Film Festival 2020) The Chillenden Murders (BBC2) (2017) The Five Wives & Lives Of Melvyn Pfferberg (2016) Conviction: Murder At the Station (BBC2) (2016) Charlie Hebdo: 3 Days That Shook Paris (Channel 4) (2015) Being AP (BBC + Toronto Film Festival) (2015) The Battle for Marjah (HBO) (2012) Popular Music Releases: Grasscut – Human Estuary / The Garden / Witley Common (2021) (Lo Recordings) Grasscut – Coprolite Tip / Courage Traveller / Edges Of Night (2021) (Lo Recordings) Grasscut – September's Night Sky (2015) (Lo Recordings) Grasscut – Beacon (2014) (Lo Recordings) Grasscut – Pieces (2012) (Ninja Tune) Essa Weira – Glimpse (2020) Jaga Jazzist – Toccata (Grasscut remix) (2010) (Ninja Tune xx Vol. 2) (Ninja Tune) – I hold an MPhil(Cantab) in Music from the University of Cambridge, where I specialised in Historical Musicology and Aesthetics. – I led the University of Cambridge Experimental Music Ensemble (CUEME) during my MPhil year – I have a first-class music degree (74.4%) from the University of Manchester, where I won three Hargreaves Prizes for Academic Achievement. – I achieved a distinction (92%) in my ATCL Diploma in violin performance, and a First (78%) in my final violin recital for my undergraduate degree. – I have worked as an Assistant Music Teacher, which involved teaching to A-Level Music students. Ability of Students – Violin: Beginner to first-level Diploma (ATCL or DipABRSM)

Leon - Cambridge399 CNY
Trusted teacher: I am a friendly, patient, and professional Piano, Composition, Production, Music Theory, and DJ teacher from London, based in Cambridge. I have 12 years of teaching experience, and have taught pupils from 5 years old to 65! I began composition lessons with Darren Bloom at Forest School, Snaresbrook, and was awarded a scholarship to the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, followed by a place at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where I completed an MMus in Composition in 2019. My previous tutors include Richard Ayres, Wim Henderickx, Richard Causton, Edwin Roxburgh, Ed Bennett, Joe Cutler, and Howard Skempton. I have also taken master classes from Rebecca Saunders, Mario Garuti, Anna Korsun, and Colin Matthews. I was the winner of the Orchestre Nouvelle Generation Composers Competition 2016/17, and the Birmingham Conservatoire Orchestral Composition Prize 2015. Distinguished ensembles and performers who have performed my works include the DoelenKwartet, HERMESensemble, Syzygy Quartet, Ossian Ensemble, Noszferatu, Decibel, David Le Page, Patrick Johnson, Sara Minelli, Rowland Sutherland, and Colin Alexander. My compositions have been featured at world-famous festivals including the String Quartet Biennale Amsterdam and TROMP Percussion Festival and at venues such as Kings Place and Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, as well as various venues throughout Europe, North America, and South Africa. In addition to classical composition, I also write advert soundtracks on a regular basis for clients such as GHD, Lanvin, Japanese Vogue, Mariana Jungman (London Fashion Week), Cent Magazine, and Face Lace. I have completed a number of scores for award-winning short films 'Wanted' by Graeme Montgomery, and 'Genesis' by Beatrix Haxby. I am also a bassoonist, having studied with Adam Mackenzie (New London Chamber Ensemble) and John Orford (London Sinfonietta). I was a member of Essex Youth Orchestra for four years, and have written a new repertoire for the instrument including a number of Concert Studies and also a Bassoon Quartet. I am also an active DJ under the alias 'Delian Sound', playing eclectic sets from Garage to Jungle. I studied with international artists including Kasey Riot and Noah Priddle at the London Sound Academy and have performed in venues such as SET, Dalston alongside artists including Chiminyo and D’vo. Tutoring Experience: From 2009-2011 I taught Drumkit to students aged between 10-15 at a local Rock & Pop School. I've also been involved in a number of music courses for children between 2009-2014 as a Supervisor / Sound Technician. In 2016 I began giving private lessons and built up a group of over 20 pupils ranging from 5-year-olds to adults through positive word-of-mouth. Between April-July 2017, I was contacted by a local primary school to give small group lessons in Piano and Guitar. Alongside my studies in Amsterdam, I continued to teach a similarly wide age range of pupils. Since 2019 I have taught Composition & Musicianship at the Saffron Walden Centre for Young Musicians. I have an Enhanced DBS check, available upon request. Tutoring Approach: My philosophy in Music Tuition is to improve the student's technique through exercises and pieces which they enjoy. I also provide general music education as I believe in a holistic approach, and increasing their passion for music which will increase their motivation for practice and improvement.

I am a UK-trained violinist with a strong background in performance, orchestral playing, and teaching. What defines my teaching is precision, clarity, and care for healthy technique. I help students build a secure technical foundation while developing confidence, musical awareness, and expressive sound. I genuinely enjoy working with children and take pride in guiding them patiently and responsibly. With young students, I focus on posture, coordination, listening skills, and confidence, creating a positive and motivating learning environment from the very beginning. I also work with teenagers and adults, including returners who feel tense or stuck. My lessons are structured, calm, and highly focused, helping students understand how to practise effectively and progress with purpose. I combine high standards with a supportive and respectful approach, adapting my teaching to each student’s age, level, and goals. My violin lessons are carefully structured to develop strong technique, musical understanding, and long-term confidence. Each lesson is adapted to the student’s age, level, and physical comfort. I identify technical issues early and address them methodically, ensuring healthy posture and efficient movement. We work in depth on: • posture and body balance • •bow control and sound production • left-hand technique, intonation, and coordination • musical phrasing and stylistic awareness With children, lessons are patient, encouraging, and well-paced, building discipline and confidence step by step. With older students and adults, lessons are focused, analytical, and goal-oriented. My aim is not only improvement, but to give students reliable tools they can use independently in their practice.

I teach one to one singing lessons in person and online. Lessons are packed with all kinds of information: breathing technique and vocal warm-ups,, exploring a range of song repertoire, musicianship skills, confidence building, audition and exam preparation (for those who want to!) and most importantly, finding a real enjoyment of singing - all in a friendly and professional environment. I have run a successful singing teaching practice for adults and children in Cambridge since 2006, working with a wide variety of people and teaching a range of musical and vocal styles. I teach in person and online. I have an enhanced DBS certificate, public liability insurance and am a member of AOTOS (Association of Singing Teachers) and the Musicians' Union. I also have the NSPCC/Musicians Union 'Keeping Children Safe in Music' Child Protection certification. I have considerable experience in music education and community music both as a singing teacher and a vocal animateur. I have worked with people of all ages and abilities in both a workshop and one to one setting and have run projects, course and classes for music hubs, orchestras, disability and mental health organisations. I have led community singing projects for the Royal Opera, Opera North and English Touring Opera and international projects in Belize and India as well as leading a range of workshops from 'Find Your Voice' sessions to performance workshops in UK universities. As part of mid career CPD, I recently completed a two year course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, as part of continuing my professional development - a Post-Graduate Certificate in Performance Teaching (Higher Education elective) and was made a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. In Cambridge, I teach singing at The Perse School (Upper) and at St Catharine's College & Churchill College, University of Cambridge. I also run young choirs at the Centre for Young Musicians in Peterborough (PCYM), a division of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Mary has been great in our interactions. At the moment, we are meeting twice a week for an hour each session. She started with a class in which we got to know each other and she listen to my goals. Then, she prepared exercises and lessons specially designed to help me reach those goals with practice and also prepared lessons to help me continue growing as a guitar player. Moreover, she goes often out of her way to get songs challenging to my level, but that are doable with enough practice. In all, I am enjoying quite a lot of our classes and I am always looking forward to them.

My first lesson with Daniel was just what I wanted and more. Daniel made me feel very comfortable and let me play some music I had been working on. Then Daniel looked at all aspects of my playing in a thorough manner and signposted plans for future lessons. I was really wanting my technique to be reviewed thoroughly and Daniel did exactly this, in a very supportive and encouraging manner. It was incredible to hear the change to my playing Daniel helped me make within the hour. Looking forward to the next lesson! Many thanks!
