This means if you want to learn how to play pocket we focus on funk rhythms, if you want to learn how to play straight groove we focus on bossa or latin etc. With a Bachelor in Jazz Guitar in the pocket - that’s what I mostly play, we can dig into chord melody, single line playing, repertoire and comping in a variety of styles within the jazz idiom. The first lesson will be a checkup where you are as a student in your musical development, thereafter I will ask about your goals and aspirations and what you’re currently doing to reach them. My role is to oversee this process and share what has helped me in my musical development. I believe instrument lessons need to be practical and be based off concrete exercises that will help you reach the next level. For something to manifest into your playing you have to first get whatever you’re learning into your muscle memory - practice slowly with metronome, continuous repetition over a period of time, then the brain have a greater chance of obtaining the skill. Second step is to gradually increase the tempo and play with a good time feel, by doing this you will have what you’ve learnt in your hands. There are no shortcuts when learning a skill, you simply cannot buy it - you have to earn it!

As an experienced tutor for over 4 year I offer double bass and music theory lessons in the Hague & online for beginner / intermediate / advanced level, adapted to all ages and children. All lessons are designed and adapted to the individual needs of the student. In our lessons we are going to focus on some of the following aspects; - intonation and sound quality - rhythm and steady time-keeping - musicality and improvisation -creating your own bass lines -pizzicato and bowing techniques -role of the bassist in a band -discovering common chord progressions -learning how to play along with your favorite records in jazz/blues/pop/soul/funk genres I offer double bass, bass guitar, piano and music theory lessons adapted to preschoolers, gradeschoolers and teenagers. When I really started to understand how things work and why they work, the way I started to use harmony really changed. It is not easy to explain the way music works, however, I want to share the way I was taught jazz harmony myself, as I feel it has been an incredibly valuable tool for me, and will be for others.
