Trusted teacher: Did you ever hear a tune and you felt like you wanted to just play over it? Did you ever feel like you’d like to discover what makes a tune that special? I can help you to understand how music works and what makes it such an incredible art form! Listening to what you want and need, I can make a tailored plan with you on what you’d like to learn and get you going in the instrument and in your theory. Whether you’re a complete beginner of picking back the trumpet we can work together and make this journey as fun as possible. I teach Trumpet in the multiple styles that you might have come across - being jazz, salsa, disco, pop or funk. In case you’d like to learn more about how to improvise on the trumpet we can also tackle that and get you going, all while having fun! I teach all ages and from absolute beginner to Intermediate players. I speak English, Portuguese, Spanish, and I’m also taking my steps into learning Dutch, even though music is such a universal language. I live in Amsterdam and you can learn at my studio in NDSM, or I can come and meet where you are! It is also possible to arrange lessons in the center of Amsterdam, close to Centraal Station. About me? I’m Luso-american musician who moved to Amsterdam to study jazz trumpet at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where I’m currently finishing my bachelor degree. I started playing the trumpet when I was 9 years old, and since then my passion for music just kept on growing bigger. My main focus as a jazz musician was big band playing, where I’m specialised in lead trumpet playing, however I kept myself open to different styles being part of Afrobeat bands, playing in small formations, such as trios or just playing some groovin’ music from Earth Wind & Fire or Kool & The Gang.

Trusted teacher: !!LOOKING FOR NEW GUITAR HEROES!!! "As one of the most popular and accessible instruments in today's musical landscape, the guitar spans a wide range of genres and its incredible sonic possibilities have made it a key instrument over the past 60 years. ." Eh?! What?!! Let's stop the blabla... Guitar is killing! Everyone loves it (that's probably why you're here) and I'm guessing you're like "How can I learn some of this crazy guitar stuff without selling one of my kidneys to some creepy guy on Youtube". Well... I'm not offering you the rock 'n' roll lifestyle, sprinkled with angel dust and full of groupies languidly waiting for you backstage, but I can at least offer you an organized guitar lesson based on a comprehensive approach to the instrument, targeted to your musical aspirations... In other words: what YOU like! I sincerely believe that the most effective way to learn music is to delve into what you love and explore it with passion and dedication. We will always start from the songs you like, step by step, following your workflow. My goal is simply to give you the best tips and tricks so that you can enjoy playing the songs you love or, if you wish, organize your guitar practice in the most efficient way. MOST IMPORTANT: I love to jam so be prepare to play some music :-). Together we will tackle various topics, we can also focus on: - Learn a song and be able to do it by yourself later. - Explore different musical styles: Pop, Rock, Blues, Funk, Jazz... - Guitar techniques using scales, triads and arpeggios. - Understand harmony and how to build chords. - Use your ear as a tool to find new ideas. - Being able to provide a nice and steady groove by studying rhythmic figures. - Immerse yourself in the beautiful world of improvisation. - Develop your intuition and your creativity as an improviser and apply it to the material you already know. !!!Only for the brave: we could also do a little music theory -> If you want!!! For more than 10 years now, I have been teaching students of different ages and levels, all very satisfied with the lessons. We could also do it online if that is more convenient for you. I look forward to hearing from you!

Trusted teacher: I teach online via Zoom, using software which allows you to see the exact keys I'm playing on my keyboard. My teaching method is to focus on whatever type of music the student loves most, and to build from there. I believe that many people give up their dream of playing an instrument simply because they aren't inspired enough, so my goal is to instill a love for music, whatever that means personally for each individual student. Everyone learns differently and has their own pace and rhythm. I have some students who like to have a regular weekly or biweekly lesson, and others who just get in touch once in a while when they have digested the previous lesson and feel ready to build on it. Whatever the case, I am very flexible and we can figure out what works best for you. A bit about me: Originally honing my skills on the British jazz scene and holding residencies in restaurants and bars around the country, I then went on to tour the world playing on cruise ships, hotels and festivals. I returned to London to complete my master's in jazz piano at the Guildhall School of Music, and during this time performed regularly at Ronnie Scotts, The Vortex and many other venues across the UK. I then spent two years in South America learning about salsa and Cuban music. I now mainly work as a transcriber, writing sheet music for all instruments including full Big Band scores. I have also worked extensively in musical theatre, most recently as musical director for 'Jersey Boys', and on the first US national tour of 'Summer: the Donna Summer Musical'. The video shown below is from my stint playing and directing 'After Midnight', a show set to the music of the Duke Ellington Big Band.

David

I had previously played some classical for a few years, but was looking to learn jazz piano and improvisation as well. For this David is ideal, as he studied both as a classical and jazz musician, and has a deep understanding of each. About half the lessons we focus on jazz improvisation. During the lessons I improvise over a few songs, and each session he gives feedback, while adding a new layer of difficulty. We've also worked a lot on rhythm, which has really helped me bridge the gap between classical and jazz. We spent a few lessons on classical pieces as well, to refine technique and musicality. My playing feels much more fluid and musical already, and he's really helpful/knowledgeable with the details. Also, on the weeks where I did have not had much time to practice, we do a more (jazz) theory oriented lesson, which has also helped alot with my improvisation. Overall, I only have positive things to say about the lessons! David is a very easy-going teacher, and from the first lesson I felt very comfortable asking him questions. He's very versatile as well, and easily adapts the lesson according to what suits us best that week.

Emanuele

Emanuele is a wonderful teacher. He's very friendly and accessible, not the "intimidating expert" type at all. He's very open and flexible in meeting students at the level they are, with no judgement at all, but with genuine interest and care, instead. He's very knowledgeable but also keeps the lesson light and fun. He's supportive and actively tries to help you improve, exploring your individual strengths and weaknesses with you, instead of sticking to any pre-conceived ideas. His comments never feel like he's correcting you, they always feel supportive. You can feel he loves what he's doing, and love and joy for piano-playing is the feeling you leave with after a lesson. Highly recommended.

Maya
rating star
rating green star
Our first lesson was an exploration of the feeling of holding the viola and the bow and of playing some notes pizzicato and with the bow. Maya was enthusiastic, patient and flexible in adapting to what I could and wanted to try. Her calm approach (letting learning sink in, allowing a process of getting used to the playing and learning) made me feel very comfortable and inspired!
