Om hypnose te begrijpen, kan je aan zonlicht denken; dat is diffuus en valt een beetje overal in. Als je licht doorheen een aantal kristallen bundelt, maak je er echter een laserstraal van. Hypnose doet hetzelfde met jouw aandacht. Die is gewoonlijk op meerdere dingen tegelijk gericht. Zo zie je niet enkel wat er zich lijnrecht voor je bevindt, maar neem je ook dingen links en rechts waar, in jouw perifere gezichtsveld. Wanneer je jezelf focust en jouw aandacht op een punt richt, kan je echter een hypnotische staat bereiken. Onze hersenen Vroeger hadden mensen die over hypnose praatten het vooral over de twee hersenhelen. De linkerhersenhelft controleert het rechterdeel van het lichaam (behalve de oren), de rechterhersenhelft beheert het linkerdeel van ons lichaam. Bovendien werd er vaak beweerd dat ons logisch denken (waaronder rekenen) en onze taal vooral huist in de linkerhersenhelft, en onze creativiteit in onze rechterhersenheft. Dit is echter maar gedeeltelijk waar. De werkelijkheid is een stuk complexer, en bovendien nemen andere hersendelen het vaak over als een bepaald gedeelte beschadigd geraakt. In oude teksten – en helaas vaak ook in modernere schrijfsels – lees je vaak dat hypnose de rechterhersenhelft extra activeert. Tijdens hersenscans kunnen we inderdaad zien dat er een ander patroon ontstaat dan wanneer men slaapt of wakker is. Het onderzoek naar wat er precies aan de hand is, is echter nog geenszins afgesloten. Wel kunnen we met zekerheid zeggen dat de hersenen gewoonlijk werken alsof het gesuggereerde echt wordt geregistreerd, en dit in tegenstelling tot wat er gebeurt wanneer men zich gewoon iets inbeeldt! Tal van experimenten (vaak met PET scans, zoals het experiment van Henry Szechtman van de McMaster University in Ontario uit 1998, of het pijnreductie-experiment van Pierre Rainville van de University of Montreal van een jaar daarvoor) hebben dit al uitgewezen. Hersenexperimenten geven ons overigens een goed voorbeeld van waarom hypnose zo effectief is bij (onder andere) pijnbestrijding. Tijdens een bekend experiment werden proefpersonen bijvoorbeeld geconfronteerd met pijnprikkels van verschillende intensiteiten. Hierbij moesten ze rapporteren hoeveel pijn ze hadden terwijl ook hun hersenactiviteit geregistreerd werd. De subjectieve pijnbeleving van eenzelfde intensiteit verschilde enorm sterk van proefpersoon tot proefpersoon, maar vooral het geactiveerde hersengebied bij de pijnbeleving was interessant: dit was immers een gebied dat instaat voor herinnering en ervaring! Hoe sterk je pijn ervaart, hangt dus grotendeels samen met de manier waarop je ermee omgaat en niet enkel met de objectieve intensiteit! Je zult nooit iets doen wat je niet wilt Ook bovenstaande stelling klopt grotendeels, maar moet wel wat genuanceerd worden. Een bijzonder klein gedeelte van de bevolking - misschien ongeveer een procent - lijkt een staat te bereiken die wordt aangeduid als 'stuporeus'. Deze mensen schijnen zowat alles te doen wat wordt gevraagd. We zijn echter van mening dat dit niets te maken heeft met een slecht of labiel karakter, of met een absolute controle van de hypnotiseur. Wat er wel aan de hand is, is te verklaren met het fenomeen van de vernauwde aandacht. Omdat een stuporeus iemand zo geconcentreerd is op de uit te voeren taak, is hij of zij vaak niet meer echt bezig met wat er rond hem of haar heen gebeurt. Je blijft actief Gehypnotiseerde mensen gedragen zich in ieder geval nooit als passieve machines: ze zijn actief bezig met het oplossen van hun problemen, en zijn ook creatief als dat niet gesuggereerd wordt door de therapeut. De meeste zaken die hen overkomen, worden echter als 'moeiteloos' ervaren, alsof alles 'vanzelf' gaat. Lang niet iedereen heeft overigens het gevoel 'weg' te zijn: gewoonlijk behoud je tijdens een hypnosesessie contact met de buitenwereld. Het is net omdat het mogelijk is dat je daardoor gestoord wordt, dat er tijdens shows gewoonlijk wordt gevraagd aan de toeschouwers om stil te blijven. Het is overigens toch belangrijk dat je de hypnotiseur kunt horen, niet? Onschadelijk Hypnose is absoluut onschadelijk. Wél kunnen negatieve suggesties schadelijk zijn, maar dat geldt evengoed voor het dagelijkse leven. Wie voortdurend van de leraar te horen krijgt dat hij er niets van bakt, loopt het risico dat ook te gaan geloven wanneer het niet waar is, of om een deuk te krijgen in het zelfvertrouwen. Dit betekent dus dat hypnotherapeuten - net als alle mensen - zeker moeten oppassen met de suggesties die ze geven! Zo denken we dat de meeste (of alle) mensen die lijden aan multiple personality disorder (waarbij men denkt meerdere persoonlijkheden te hebben) verkeerde suggesties hebben gekregen (niet noodzakelijk onder hypnose) van mensen die praten over verschillende 'delen' of 'persoonlijkheden'. En wat te denken over waarzeggers, wier voorspellingen vaak waarheid worden omdat men er (onbewust) zijn of haar handelen naar richt – waarmee we niet noodzakelijk willen beweren dat het allemaal kwakzalvers zijn. Ook bij het ophalen van herinneringen wijst onderzoek uit dat men vaak dingen fantaseert! Hiervoor moet een therapeut dus oppassen, vooral wanneer het bijvoorbeeld gaat om vermeende incest of mishandeling. Je wordt altijd wakker Het is onmogelijk in een hypnotische staat te blijven 'steken'. Wie toch in hypnose zou blijven, zou trouwens gewoon in slaap vallen en daarna nuchter wakker worden. Het lijkt er trouwens op dat men ook in het dagelijkse leven vaak een hypnotische staat ervaart, bijvoorbeeld bij het lezen, het tv kijken, of het beoefenen van yoga of meditatie. Hulpmiddel Zoals gezegd, is hypnose vaak een uitstekend hulpmiddel bij het behandelen van allerlei kwalen en problemen van psychologische of psychosomatische aard. En aangezien lichaam en psyche enorm veel wederzijdse invloed op elkaar uitoefenen, betekent dit dat je heel wat lijden kunt verzachten of wegnemen met hypnose. Zo is er zelfs veelvuldig aangetoond dat hypnose erg effectief is tegen allergieën, psoriasis en angsten, maar ook bij het behalen van positieve doelstellingen worden er vaak hypnotische technieken gebruikt. The proposition contains different exercises and tasks that varies between structured and improvised: Individual Improvisation : the improvisation aims to let the space for the dancers to develop their way of moving, to develop their understanding of their bodies related to the notion of space and time. The task would focus on the interaction with the music that they chose at first. This last would create an atmosphere that they relate to and a music that they feel connected to in order to drive them slowly in connecting their bodies and rythme. The improvisation task would play throughout variety of notions : music / silence / speaking / construction of time / construction of space. Technical: variety of technical bases of contemporary dance would be introduced. The use of the body/ choreography/ the use of the space/ the use of surroundings/ using objects / contact improvisation. Duet improvisation : This task is based on how the individual could relate to other body. The aim is that someone improvises while the other watches which brings a close connection to each one another as a group and start to see dancing and moving in details and closely. The second step is repeating what they saw or repeat simultaneously. This could be a good tool to try to work on memory and how they perceive the movements. (The repetition could be not identical to the previous version but at least it could take some items as rythm way of use of the body time and space together) Yoga The group improvisation: this improvisation would need a group of people together in which the task Would be OPEN for any suggestions.
