Learn Music! Violin/viola, Piano, Music Theory, Harmony,

Have always been eager to learn an instrument? have you started in your school years and now want take again that violin repertoire? Do you want to start from beginning a new hobby with music?

My name is Stefano and I am a freelance viola player. After studying viola and composition in Italy, I moved to Rotterdam to complete my Master degree at Codarts, which I obtained in 2018. As a freelance musician, I devote most of my time to chamber music and orchestra playing, collaborating with orchestras such La Toscanini di Parma, Sinfonia Rotterdam, FOI Bruno Bartoletti and others.

I had the luck to follow lessons and masterclasses by amazing renowned teachers (such as Julia Dinerstein, Alexander and Mikhail Zemtsov, members of the Rotterdam Phil, Maxim Rysanov, Simonide Braconi) realising how the teacher-student relationship is so important and fundamental for the all-round growth of the individual.
They taught me that, beside being a form of Art and a job opportunity, Music is pure enjoyment for both mind and soul; its strength is the possibility music gives you to learn about yourself, to express your emotions, to connect with other people, and all in the most enjoyable way ever, which is MAKING MUSIC! How cool is that? :)

If you want to start discovering music with me, I offer Violin, Viola, Piano (basic to intermediate), Music Theory and Harmony classes.

I offer lessons for:
- beginners
- amateurs
- preparation to exams
- tutoring

About Me

My name is Stefano and I am 30 years old.
I am freelance viola player, I came from Italy to Rotterdam to get my Master Degree and pursue a career in the music field.
I started my musical education at 15 in Italy, studying Viola and Composition in Genova and La Spezia.

I moved to Rotterdam in 2016.

I am very curious and passionate about cultures, arts (like music, of course :)); I love reading books, watching a good movie and cooking.

Education

- Codarts University for the Arts, Master in Classical Music Performance, Viola, 2018
- Conservatorio G. Puccini, La Spezia, Diploma and Master Degree in Viola, 2015; Intermediate Degree in Composition, 2015;
- Liceo Classico Andrea D'Oria, Genova, Classical Studies High School degree, 2009

After graduating in Italy and moving my first step in youth orchestras (such as Italian Youth Orchestra, Orchestra Giovanile Luigi Cherubini conducted by Riccardo Muti, Orchestra del Teatro Olimpico di Vicenza), I moved to Rotterdam to complete my Master degree at Codarts, which I obtained in 2018 in Julia Dinerstein's class.
I had the luck to follow lessons and masterclasses by amazing renowned teachers, such as Alexander and Mikhail Zemtsov, members of the Rotterdam Phil, Maxim Rysanov, Simonide Braconi, Candida Thompson, Eva Stegeman.

Experience / Qualifications

As a freelance musician, I devote most of my time to chamber music and orchestra playing, collaborating with orchestras such La Toscanini di Parma, Sinfonia Rotterdam, FOI Bruno Bartoletti, Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, Ciconia Consort and others.

Always enjoyed learning new languages (Dutch is in the making!) and sharing my experience with other people.

Music has been the cornerstone in my education: it gave me a powerful tool to discover and develop myself, and to connect with the world; I believe that the joy and magic of music should be brought to everyone, as it gives to everyone the possibility to grow and become the best version of yourself, through self-expression and listening skills.

Music is a very international field of work, so I am used to bridge with different languages and culture, and to help colleagues to better understand Italian (for example, through Opera lyrics:) )
Always dreamed about learning Italian from scratch? Fascinated by the idea of diving into the amazing culture of Italy? Wishing to train again your knowledge of Italian grammar rules or simply improve conversation skills? Contact me and we can arrange your first Italian class. We are going to tailor each lesson around your specific needs. Whether you are striving to grasp that tough grammar rules for school classes, or planning to show off your Italian while talking about wines with your friends, this is the Italian course you are looking for :) *** due to Covid, online lesson preferred! ***

I specialize in reliable work on the instrument, in order to combine technique and musical thinking and give way to music of the highest level. Adopting a correct posture and perception of the body, we are going to be able to work and build a solid system for playing the instrument.

I study Latin guitar in Codarts World music department. I play professionally as a leader in my own group and as a sideman in various others. •Learn how to play saxophone, develop your musicality and build your own repertoire (for all kind of music and levels)
“Don't play the saxophone. Let it play you.” - Charlie Parker - Everyone of us has is own musicality, we have just to let her come out. The goal of my lesson is to let you discover how much fun and passion music can gives. Music has no age: you're never too young or too old to tell yourself through a musical instrument. If you love and recognize yourself in the warm sound of the saxophone then what are you waiting for!? Let's start this wonderful Music journey Together :) “Whatever you think can't be done, somebody will come along and do it.” – Thelonious Monk SAXOPHONE LESSON: To learn how to transfer your musical ideas into the saxophone is required a total connection between your body and your mind with the horn. That's why for the first part of every lesson will be focused on the Sound and the saxophone technique. You need to learn how to build your own saxophone tone and how to sing into the instrument. This process can take some weeks for really beginners but it'll show you how the musical practice can positive effect your all body and emotions, as well as your creativity. In order to make your music journey more fun and personal my lessons will be based on your music interests and purpose (learn how to read music, improvisation ecc…) During this journey together we'll build your own repertoire of songs that most represent you, which we'll dedicate the second part of the lesson. FOR NERDY ;) For those who wants to go deeper into the world of saxophone I'll organize some special 'listening section' focus on the the role of Saxophone in the music history and in the different kind of music. From the classical repertoire (Gershwin, Bizet, Milhaud, Rota, Bernstein, Steve Reich, Michael Nyman…) passing through the more popular: Blues, Jazz (Stan Getz, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderly, Sonny Rollins…), latin , rock&roll, Pop until nowadays. We'll listen to the milestones of the great composers and performers that have made the history of this fantastic instrument. I'm sure It'll be a journey of discovery the beauty of the music to which this instrument has made, and a big inspiration for you to grow the passion toward this amazing form of art.

Have fun by learning how to play the clarinet and discovering how the music works!
Do you want to have fun learning how to play the most beautiful instrument in the world or improve your skills with it? I'd be delighted to do it with you! I'm a classical clarinetist, I have two masters (recently graduated at Codarts) and different experience in orchestra, chamber music and teaching! My goal as a teacher is to stimulate the student to study in order to be at the disposal of music and not a passive player as can happen many times when you undertake a new study. That is why I like to play with my students and organize little private concerts and try-out. Concerning the music theory lessons, I am not going to bore you with long and incomprehensible explanations! We will study it in a fun and effective way! I've been studying music since I'm five years old and I started with the Kodaly method that made me approach music in a very natural way! I hope to see you soon!

Bandoneon Lessons - Learning from the instrument's technique
Bandoneon is a very well know instrument for playing tango, in fact it's part of the genre's DNA. However, not many people know that the instrument was constructed in Germany and some people even say it was supposed to be used as an portable organ. This means that the Bandoneon has a technique that is independent of any genre. This technique is not found by coping other instruments such as the organ or keyboard but through the development of the nature of the instrument. This is mainly the importance of the air and how it is affected by the pulling and the movement we make when we play. Of course Tango will be an important axis of the lessons as it very important for the development of the instrument and for specific techniques but Tango won't be the starting point as it's not the best pedagogical tool for learning the instrument. But no worries, we'll get there ;) Have you ever wondered how a Gregorian chant, Bach, Mozart & Chopin might sound in the bandoneon? The results might surprise as you would get a very different sound from the one you are originally used to. Also, we can try and use the bandoneon for different and new genres, who knows what we might discover from the instrument along the way?

Violin lessons with focus on music enjoyment and effective practice for a nice development in every level / style.
With these violin lessons I would like to transmit to the student my knowledge with violin, as well as the passion for music. It is easy when learning an instrument to get frustrated because of the difficulties, but with a balance between good habits and focus on having fun with expressivity, it ensures that the student enjoys the process and improves in the results. Open to all levels and music styles, in my lessons students will experience an open playground or lab, where they find in the violin and music a great source of creativity. In addition, with my experience for many years and a bachelor of music in violin (Codarts), I will work to establish in the student proper habits for the violin to ensure the optimal conditions, but always with fun, no matter the expectatives with the instruments ( mild hobby, amateur, professional). Duration of lessons: 60 min is a regular lesson. 30 min lesson possible for children ( young children usually do not hold longer periods with focus in the beggining).

Drum Lessons for all levels - all styles considered!
Do you want to play in a band, play for fun at home with friends, or become a proffecional drummer? Come for a lesson in my studio and see what you'd like to learn. If you like a certain style, we will focus on it and develop your playing towards your taste. I've been playing, teaching and studying drums for over 15 years now. I take it very seriously and try to tailor my teaching to every student that I have. I can use my experience as a proffecional musician to make you progress fast and focus on things not every teacher knows from books. In this course we will focus on technique as well as creativity and improvisation (one of the most enjoyable aspects of playing drums). Do you have any other percussion instrument you'd like to expand your knowledge on? I can offer you percussion lessons as well since I have a lot of experience in playing percussion as well. If you want to study with me I can provide a stable program for development for fast results including scores, exercises, etc. About me: As well as teaching, I'm mainly a performer of music - I've been playing drums with different bands as well as classical percussion for more than 15 years now in many different settings. In the last years of my development I've taken a closer look to jazz, pop, hip hop and rock music. I can use my experience to find good qualities in my students and develop them as much as possible. I hope you consider me to be your teacher :)

Davide Guido
Music Production, Music Theory, Composition, Cello, Sound Engineering
My name is Davide and my music experience started when I was 10 years old during my middle school in Italy. I started playing cello and I kept on studying classical music for 8 years, performing as a soloist and in many orchestras and ensembles. In the meanwhile, I started being interested in electronic music and composition for soundtracks. When I turned 17 I realized that music would have been my passion and my job. I graduated in “Contemporary Writing and Production” at Pescara Conservatory in Italy. During these studies, I dove deeper into Pop and Experimental Electronic Music, orchestration, and orchestral composition. I also had the opportunity to play in different bands and discover different genres such as Post Rock, Progressive Metal, and Heavy Metal. After my bachelor's degree, I finished my studies following a Master's program at Codarts (Rotterdam) in Creative Production. During those two years, I had the opportunity to collaborate with many people and explore different kinds of music (Turkish, Flamenco, Jazz, etc.). I wrote an Artistic Research about electronic unquantized music by analyzing the sound of producers such as Flume, Burial, and Arca. Now that my studies are finished I feel that I want to spread my knowledge and my passion to many people as possible. My class subjects are: - Music Production (from beginners to expert level, mainly Ableton Live and Pro Tools classes) - Cello Lessons (from beginners to intermediate level) - Music Theory (from beginners to expert level) - Composition and Orchestration (explore the world and joy of composing for an orchestra and how to use your DAW as a real symphonic orchestra). As a Producer, I want to let the student feel completely free to ask me whatever he/she wants. I have had many experiences as a producer and I know how to handle many different genres. My first teaching experience was at 17 years old and from that moment on I did not change my teaching set-up. I want the lesson to be an interactive moment in which the teacher and the student are sharing ideas and opinions. Feel free to apply for the lessons. I look forward to meeting you!
