My lessons are mainly aimed at those who are new to music and who wish to start learning the transverse flute, through the development of the ear and the discovery of music theory. On the program: learning to breathe, discovering a varied repertoire, technical work... I base my lessons on various works and especially on my musical experience, aiming to transmit my passion for music. Graduated with a degree in musicology and currently studying at the conservatory, I have been practicing the piano, guitar and transverse flute for several years now and in particular in various jazz and contemporary music formations. Student in scholarly disciplines (Analysis, History of Music, Writing, Orchestration) I strive to link instrumental practice to elements of music culture, historical events or anecdotes :) Through my lessons I try to transmit my passion for music and the desire to learn.

For me, each student is different and deserves a personalized approach. I try above all to put him in confidence so that he progresses serenely and in the pleasure of learning and seeks a language and a mode of operation which corresponds to him. I always start my lessons with a little warm-up before doing technical and musical work on the songs. After a few sessions we establish with the student a "plan of attack" defining the short, medium and long term objectives.

I propose a course suitable for all ages (young children to retirees), and levels (beginner, intermediate and advanced). Since each student has strengths and weaknesses, I favor an individualized approach that is adapted to everyone's needs. The main objective of the course is to help the student to improve in his skills (breathing, posture, articulation, accuracy, interpretation etc.). For the little ones, I practice the Suzuki method, which facilitates learning by listening and I also use other approaches, such as technical Alexander, yoga, and Qi Gong, to improve body awareness during musical performance. I teach several musical styles (classical, contemporary, jazz and variety music), and it is important for students to enjoy the music they play.

Cathy started her music teaching career in 2015, and has been teaching students from beginner to grade 8, aged from 6 to 35 years old. She always welcomes students who wish to explore more about music, building up playing the flute as their hobby, as well as growing together with them as their role models. She feels very glad and blessed to be the teacher of her students, as well as being their sister, witnessing their growth and becoming a good friend to them. In the lesson, she would always love to play studies, and exercise, as well as play flute pieces and duets together with the students. To broaden their horizons, she would love to share different music recordings, as well as discuss the music together during the lesson. Cathy believes that it is essential for students to step out of the classroom to learn music, rather than just playing the flute. During years of teaching, she has encountered students taking different examination grades. Cathy understands the importance of choosing the pieces for students, she would love to demonstrate pieces and discuss the preferences with the students together. As the mode of having examinations has varied these years, she has already adapted to preparing students for the exams under different situations. Gladly, most of her students could attain merit or even distinction under her tutelage.

A student at the CNSM in Paris and a graduate of the CFEM in transverse flute, I offer flute lessons for beginners or intermediate students wishing to learn music for fun, without pressure related to exams or a work requirement. Sets: If you like to play together and progress together, you can enjoy chamber music lessons. I will accompany you in the work of listening, phrasing and intonation, integrating the tricks of the collective game and help you to establish a directory. Initiation to improvisation: You want to develop your freedom of expression and approach a new way of making music by detaching from the score? I offer improvisation lessons starting from the learning of harmony and jazz modes, rhythm and the construction of a solo. Without putting flats! ;)

My method synthesizes the strongest aspects of the French and American schools, and is oriented by an empowering pedagogical format teaching the student auto-listening skills so they can continue to build knowledge and ease on the instrument outside of the studio. The studio also holds two group masterclasses per year. I teach beginners, intermediate students, and do intensive coachings with advanced students who are looking to prepare a program or audition. I have played the flute for more than 20 years, and have been teaching since 2011. I offer flute lessons to children aged 8 and up, and adults at all levels from beginners to post Grade 8. I also teach recorder to younger beginners- I find this is a good stepping stone for younger children as it's more comfortable for smaller beginners to hold, and easier to make a sound on. Learn to pass exams or just for fun- many of my students achieve highly in ABRSM and Trinity grades, but some prefer not to take exams and this is fine too. Whatever your level, one to one tuition means that I can tailor my teaching to your needs as a flute player, and my teaching takes into account the reasons you learn an instrument, encompassing a wide variety of repertoire. I also teach music theory- lots of students come to me to help prepare for Grade 5 theory, and I also teach higher theory grades.
