About Me
With a PhD in Theater and Performance Studies and a BA in Musical Theater and English, plus work experience as a composer, music director and dramaturge at venues such as the National Theater and Lincoln Center, I am a passionate educator. I'm a native English speaker - just starting to learn German myself! I specialize in the following areas, from secondary school to university:

* Musical theater - composition/songwriting, performance (piano and drama through song), writing, dramaturgy, story
* Music - composition/songwriting, performance (piano and vocals), music theory, history and analysis
* Theater / Theater Studies - Dramaturgy and History
* English - English literature and writing
* US & UK university application process - from writing personal statements to interviews, including Oxford and Cambridge experiences
* Involving students in learning other subjects (e.g. history, science, etc.) through the arts

I am happy to teach in person in Berlin or online for students all over the world. If you have any questions or special requests, please feel free to contact us. I am happy to create new courses and experiences that fit your needs and interests!

Experience / Qualifications
Sarah writes music that empowers female voices and blurs the boundaries between musical theatre, art song and opera. Most recently, Sarah was the composer and musical director of the National Theatre's Hamlet for Young Audiences. Her rock musical These Girls Have Demons is in development with Pittsburgh CLO and her hybrid musical/opera The Trojan Women received an OPERA America Discovery Grant in 2019. Sarah has dramatized Pulitzer Prize-nominated rock operas and Lincoln Center premieres. Her theater criticism and scholarship have been published in American Theatre, Studies in Musical Theater and anthologies with Palgrave and Routledge, and her monograph Doing the Time Warp: Queer Temporalities and Musical Theater will be published by Methuen Drama in 2021.

With degrees in Music, Theater and English, Sarah is also an inspirational and interdisciplinary teaching artist. Most recently, she reinvigorated the music curriculum as Head of Music for Day School and Sixth Form at ArtsEd, the UK's leading performing arts school. Sarah also established a new undergraduate musical theater program at University Center Shrewsbury and a musical composition program at the Nightingale-Bamford School in NYC. Sarah was awarded a Jubilation Foundation grant for her exceptional teaching skills.
