Music and Piano classes - beginner to intermediate

I am a professional pianist offering private piano and theory lessons to students of all levels. As a pianist with 14 years of teaching experience and over 23 years of playing, I enjoy motivating my students with music of their own preferred style and interest, whether that be classical or contemporary. My main goal is to promote a positive experience and love for music-making during the course of learning piano. If the student is interested in a more serious approach, I can also guide preparation for grades 1-8 of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) exams. I also have successful experience preparing students for conservatory entrance auditions and for various competitions. Recently, my students have achieved the highest marks in the ABRSM exams as well as prizes in competitions. We also have a class concert for interested students twice per year. I am happy working in both a relaxed and serious approach, we simply need to discuss the objectives of the student. My own studies are as follows: I have obtained two postgraduate degrees at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp: "Concertsoloist" in Piano Performance and "Chamber Music." Prior to this, I received my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Piano Performance/Music from the University of Minnesota and TCU-Fort Worth, TX, USA. My experience includes collaboration with many different instrumentalists and singers, performing as a soloist in orchestra (also as a harpist), and receiving top prizes in several competitions. While maintaining my performance and recording career in Belgium at present, I am developing my private music studio and look forward to meeting new students.

Music is a powerfull tool of comunication. If you are completely new and you want to know the basics of the music in fun way, you want to go more deep in your knowledges about music or you want to have flute classes this place is for you. Depends on the age and on what you are looking for the class, It can be more dinamic with games or It can be more theorical. The music indeed is my speciality and my life, but my really profession is flute teacher. I am currently studying the flute master of music in Brussels.

In my class, I teach piano in a way that allows you to make progress on your own. "Don't give a man a fish, instead teach him how to fish," is the idea here. My methods include, besides basics, approaches to expressing your own musicality, stable memorization, practice habits and efficiency, technical ease, focus exercises, body awareness, and stage fright. Hence, I am best suited for intermediate and advanced students that have the desire to either study piano on a collegiate level or make significant improvements for themselves. I would like to add at this point that I have a special affinity for the concert etudes by Frédéric Chopin. However, I am perfectly happy to start with students from the very beginning as well and regardless, I will adjust to my student's needs upon mutual agreement. My free times that I listed as available are a rough estimate, lesson times are normally negotiable.

In piano lessons, we use the book method of Notus or Hal Leonard. Everything is explained step by step and you gradually learn to read music and know the piano. At the start of our lessons we'll take a look at what is important to you. What goals do you want to set, and what feels achievable and comfortable? We set long-term goals of, for example, a year. Completely tailored to where you are at, right now. During the lessons I am patient, motivating, encouraging, and complimenting. I'll point out what could be better, and also pay attention to how you can play more easily. And much more. Tailored to your needs and wishes.

In these lessons I would like to teach the student how to tackle a music dictation and how you can study for it. The dictation is very easy after a few lessons; after looking at the harmonization, possible modulations and interval exercises to more easily recognize intervals and memorize melody lines, it will be much easier when you hear a dictation to be able to fill it without error. You will then also have a better relative absolute hearing.

Graduated pianist and soprano singer, I offer piano and singing lessons for beginners to higher levels.
