Piano lessons focus on hand/wrist health, proper technique, exploring a love of music, how music works, different musical types and genres, why things work together they way they do, and composing music if interested. We individualize lessons and work with students as a team to reach goals they set for themselves. We encourage students to select additional pieces that they’d like to learn, teaching technique and skill while working on fun songs, too. We simply go at whatever pace is comfortable for you and go step by step together. We often upload audio/video to help during practice and are available between lessons to answer questions.

Hi, my name is Luis, and I play acoustic and electric guitar. I have been a music teacher for twenty-five years. My musical influences encompass a diverse range, including classical music, jazz, blues, progressive rock, traditional Latin American music, and more. I mainly teach acoustic and popular guitar with classical technique. I also teach electric guitar, Solfege, music Theory, and Music Composition. Music lessons are a space to learn and experience meaningful connections amongst individuals through discussing musical material as a means of expression and thoughtfulness. In the individual lessons we discuss possibilities of thinking about sounds and ways of bringing sounds to life in different ways. Violin lessons are in particular a great way of exploring the connectedness of the thought, feelings, and body through learning the instrument as well as reading music. In each lesson, we discuss ways of developing a better understanding of this connection using different methods; the methods used for each student can vary according to their needs. As a result, students will be able to play different music on the violin and improvise on the instrument. In music theory, ear training, and composition lessons we delve into the basics of music theory in Western Classical tradition, the history of it, and look at some examples as well as practical exercises for a better understanding of the material. Through the process of learning, we will explore different ways of implementing different theoretical aspects of the sound in creative practice.

I have four students who can very successfully play any song with One Note and cords because they now understand the structure of music. My references say I'm am patient and work at anyone's pace with solutions on how do advance in musc understanding and skills. The largest challenge is to their hands to obey them.

Hello! I am a Long Island-based viola and violin teacher currently working towards a Master's degree in viola performance at Stony Brook University. I have taught more than a dozen violin and viola students ages 6-70 over the past 5 years, and I continue to maintain a hybrid studio in Northern Virginia in addition to lessons online and on Long Island. I hold a Bachelor of Music degree in viola from the Peabody Institute of Music in Baltimore. I care deeply about the quality of my lessons, and I continuously improve my teaching materials to meet the needs of each student and to reflect each new insight I gain about string playing. My approach in lessons is based on having a long term plan for each student of becoming an excellent all-around musician, while achieving satisfying results in the short term. The most important skill I focus on with every student, young and old, is being able to analyze a technical or musical problem, break it down into a set of realistic steps, and work with efficiency to gain and retain the results. In other words: understanding how to practice in a rewarding but challenging way. In my viola and violin lessons, music theory work is vital to making musical progress, whether through understanding chords and tonal harmony, or simply reading music fluently. I was the recipient of the Azalia H. Thomas Prize for Music Theory in my graduating class at Peabody, and I regularly compose and arrange music for my students and peers.
