Tuition in Violin/Viola Performance, Musicianship, Music Theory, and Music History

Tuition in Violin/Viola Performance, Musicianship, Music Theory, and Music History

Approach to Teaching – I favour a structured approach. I devise lesson plans in advance of every lesson, catered to the student's specific needs. – Violin lessons tend to be carefully planned to focus on specific technical aspects of performance. To train musicality, I often teach this through the use of Kreutzer and Fiorillo etudes, Dont studies, and also pieces of repertoire catered to the student's musical interests and technical requirements. – I am open to considering student repertoire suggestions if they are particularly passionate about a certain piece. Lesson Structure – Typically violin lessons range in length from 30 minutes to an hour, but I am flexible: I am more than happy to devise a lesson structure that caters for a student's requirements. Credentials – I am a Musicology PhD candidate at the University of Cambridge. – I have worked as a private violin teacher for 7 years (since I was 17). I have taught a variety of students, from beginners starting their instrumental training, to more advanced performers looking to improve their technical facility and performance skills. – I have performed at West Road Concert Hall (University of Cambridge), The Lee Tseng Hall (Wolfson College Cambridge), Buxton International Festival, Manchester International Festival, and The Bridgewater Hall. – I have an extensive portfolio of performing credits on documentary films; recent highlights include the docuseries on Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein 'House of Maxwell' (BBC2, 2022), and 'Sir Alex Ferguson: Never Give In' (Netflix) (Passion Pictures / Universal Pictures) (2021). Performance Credits: Soundtrack: House of Maxwell (BBC2) (2022) *Score nominated for BAFTA award Sir Alex Ferguson: Never Give In (Netflix) (Passion Pictures / Universal Pictures) (2021) The Schnoz (Premiered at the Jewish Film Festival 2020) The Chillenden Murders (BBC2) (2017) The Five Wives & Lives Of Melvyn Pfferberg (2016) Conviction: Murder At the Station (BBC2) (2016) Charlie Hebdo: 3 Days That Shook Paris (Channel 4) (2015) Being AP (BBC + Toronto Film Festival) (2015) The Battle for Marjah (HBO) (2012) Popular Music Releases: Grasscut – Human Estuary / The Garden / Witley Common (2021) (Lo Recordings) Grasscut – Coprolite Tip / Courage Traveller / Edges Of Night (2021) (Lo Recordings) Grasscut – September's Night Sky (2015) (Lo Recordings) Grasscut – Beacon (2014) (Lo Recordings) Grasscut – Pieces (2012) (Ninja Tune) Essa Weira – Glimpse (2020) Jaga Jazzist – Toccata (Grasscut remix) (2010) (Ninja Tune xx Vol. 2) (Ninja Tune) – I hold an MPhil(Cantab) in Music from the University of Cambridge, where I specialised in Historical Musicology and Aesthetics. – I led the University of Cambridge Experimental Music Ensemble (CUEME) during my MPhil year – I have a first-class music degree (74.4%) from the University of Manchester, where I won three Hargreaves Prizes for Academic Achievement. – I achieved a distinction (92%) in my ATCL Diploma in violin performance, and a First (78%) in my final violin recital for my undergraduate degree. – I have worked as an Assistant Music Teacher, which involved teaching to A-Level Music students. Violin/Viola/Music Theory lessons with a professional violinist

Violin/Viola/Music Theory lessons with a professional violinist

Leon graduated from the University of Cambridge, where he read Academic Music. He studied violin and viola with Lutsia Ibragimova, David Dolan and Alexander Tumanov at the Yehudi Menuhin School, a specialist music school in the UK, and was concertmaster of the Cambridge University Orchestra. Recent projects include Tippett's 'A Child of Our Time' with Martyn Brabbins and Poulenc's 'Sinfonietta' with Jac van Steen. He now lives and works as a freelance violinist and music teacher in Helsinki. Leon is passionate about teaching violin/viola/music theory and is committed to a lifelong study of music and music pedagogy so he can share his knowledge with others. In his final years at school, he taught violin to beginners at a local primary school and, after graduating, more experienced 8-13-year-olds at a summer music camp. He has had two years' private teaching experience from a base in Cambridge. In addition, Leon has gained invaluable teaching experience from extensive informal tuition of advanced learners (conservatoire degree-level). The format of your lesson with Leon is not set in stone! He believes that a flexible teaching style is essential to cater effectively for different abilities: reaching one's own milestones always takes priority. If you are a beginner looking to play some of your favourite songs, for instance, the most effective strategy may be to learn the 'tricks' of the trade, or essentials only. However, if you are looking to develop a solid basis for more virtuosic playing, Leon's 'Russian-style' violin school background is ideally suited for rigorous instrumental training. For non-beginners, Leon is also able to offer advanced teaching: this includes help with musical interpretation, the pinpointing of technical issues and anything in-between. If in doubt, please enquire. Leon teaches music theory online. He is happy teach up to degree level in this field. Please drop him a message if you are interested!

Music classes of Violin and Viola from symphony orchestra member and school teacher

Music classes of Violin and Viola from symphony orchestra member and school teacher

Hello, I'm Ana and I'm a graduated violist, a permanent member of Symphony orchestra "Stanislav Binicki" in Belgrade, Serbia. Before passing the audition in an orchestra in January of 2017, I was a professor of viola and violin in a special boarding school for musically gifted children "Skola za muzicke talente Cuprija", for five years. The school is founded and lead by the "Academy of music arts" in Belgrade. There are three schools in the world of that kind: in London, Moscow, and Serbia. My students got 25 1st and few 2nd awards in the republic and international competitions, and all of them signed in to desired academies in Germany, Canada and Serbia as first on the list and with full scholarships. We still keep in touch :) I was a member of the Royal chamber orchestra St. George for four years and took part in many world tours. I played also in National Radio and Television Orchestra in Serbia, Orchestra of National theater of Serbia, National Symphony orchestra of Montenegro and National Symphony orchestra in Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina. I was a member of orchestras which took part in projects "Bridges for the future" in Bern, Switzerland, “Festival Junger Kunstler”, Bayreuth, Germany, “Deutsch-Skandinavischen Jungend-Philharmonie” in Berlin, “Music days international festival” in Russe, Bulgaria, etc. I am currently a Ph.D. student in the 3rd year of studies in Management for culture and media, on the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, Belgrade. I tend to explain to students as simple and as effective as possible. My students enjoy classes, love to play and ask many questions :) I insist on good technique and posture because even if it takes a little bit more time in the beginning, it makes future progress easy and fast.

Viola and Violin Lessons: Technique, Improv, and a Healthy Relationship with your Instrument

Viola and Violin Lessons: Technique, Improv, and a Healthy Relationship with your Instrument

This course is for viola and violin students from the beginner through the high school level, and any age from 5-99! My goal is for my students to foster a healthy and long-term relationship with their instrument. The course focuses on practicing and truly understanding technique, with an emphasis on listening. Weekly assignments tend to include technical exercises, scales, and classical pieces of the student's choice. Basic improvisation is also an interest of mine and, I find, a valuable experience for my string students. I believe repertoire is largely a matter of student taste. Students of mine have learned pieces in the Suzuki books and other classical repertoire volumes, but have also learned pop and fiddle songs according to their interest. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Violin Performance from the University of Puget Sound, where I graduated in 2015 before moving to Vienna to study privately for three years. I am currently on hiatus from a Master of Viola Performance degree at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague . I have been teaching violin intermittently since 2009. While my musical education is classical, my performance interests are much wider. I have performed jazz and pop improv, and am currently exploring how hip hop can be implemented on the viola and violin.

“ Thank you infinitely and definitely recommend Edi! He is an amasing teacher, a marvellously fine musician and a great violinist and violist. During the lesson everything is explained, shown, refined! How much mental strength is invested with love into the lessons! There is no doubt that the violin/viola is Edi’s passion, and not just a profession, and this is passed on to and inspires me. I am glad that I found him as a viola teacher. I admire Edi’s talent, ability to formulate educational material, the learning process itself and the ability to create a wonderfully warm atmosphere during the lessons and in his follow-up emails. In addition to Edi’s pedagogical qualities, he is also a very pleasant, positive and interesting person with wonderfully diverse intellectual interests. Edi is a wonderful violin/viola teacher, a very fine musician, and a charming person! A talented, kind, sympathetic man in love with music! ”

“ What I enjoy most about my lessons with Zachary is how personable he is. You will not find a more patient or kinder instructor. For me, I decided that I wanted to learn how to play the violin later in life. I have never played an instrument my entire life. Zachary did not make me feel like my new start was impossible and he does not patronize. These are things that I have encountered from teachers in the past. Zachary meets you where you are in your abilities and helps you realize your potential. He is always willing to go the extra mile to help you on your journey. I highly recommend Zachary as a teacher if you are beginner to the most advanced levels. I look forward to each session! If you’ve read this far, stop what you’re doing and book him. ”

“ My first lesson with Daniel was just what I wanted and more. Daniel made me feel very comfortable and let me play some music I had been working on. Then Daniel looked at all aspects of my playing in a thorough manner and signposted plans for future lessons. I was really wanting my technique to be reviewed thoroughly and Daniel did exactly this, in a very supportive and encouraging manner. It was incredible to hear the change to my playing Daniel helped me make within the hour. Looking forward to the next lesson! Many thanks! ”
