As well as instrumental teaching and ensemble coaching of all ages and levels over the last 12 years, I’ve led numerous professional workshops, including ‘Music First’ and ‘Music Masters’ in London and have taught on the Senior and Primary Arpeggione Viola Courses. As a member of the European String Teachers’ Association, I participated in their conferences across Europe, including at the European Parliament in 2018. I also prepare students for music exams, auditions and competitions at all levels, and work with them on music theory, aural and sight reading skills, and can accompany them the piano. Alongside my teaching I perform internationally as a soloist and chamber musician, including at Kings Place London, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and Philharmonie Berlin. I am a Hattori Foundation and Villa Musica artist, winner of the Małopolska competition, the Barbirolli Prize at the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition and the Len Lickorish Memorial Prize at the Royal Overseas League International Strings Competition. I hold a masters degree with first class honours from the class of Tabea Zimmermann at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, and Bachelors with the same distinction from the Royal Academy of Music in London, where I began in the primary department almost 20 years ago. I have over 10 years experience as a violin and viola teacher and I have a master of Viola Performance and a Bachelor of Music in Violin & Viola Performance and Pedagogy. I have performed across the world, following the music to Australia, New Zealand, China, Singapore, Germany, France, Austria, and Finland. I also compose my own music for myself and my students. It is very important for me as a teacher to support my students to have freedom of self expression and a strong technical foundation on their instrument. I want my students to love music and to love their instrument. We look into music history and listen to a wide range of musical styles. In each lesson I include an improvisation or composing activity so that every student is able to have the chance to share their musical identity and to gain self confidence. In the lessons I encourage my students to analyse the music and to make their own solutions to practice: with younger children musical challenges become small games while for teenagers and adults they are musical puzzles to be solved. I have a focus on freeing the body to play the violin as naturally as possible inspired by how Feldenkrais Technique helped me as a student. I know that it is much more enjoyable to practice when one is pain free and feeling balanced and relaxed. I include a small warm up routine into our lessons and am always careful to introduce new playing techniques with a relaxed posture. Feeling nervous before any kind of public performance is normal and part of being a musician. I encourage all of my students to conquer their fear and to feel wonderful in their playing. It is so important to have a chance to play for others and to share music is a special gift. Visualising, memorising and breathing techniques are part of the confidence boosting preparations for students who would like to give performing a go.

I have taught violin and viola in the UK for leading national organisations including Opera North, In harmony and Orchestras for All. I have over 10 years of private and school based teaching experience and have taught students from aged 4 to adults. I also ran an outreach music and arts project in the UK delivering music and art workshops in schools and art galleries as well as online, the project was recognised with two national awards from Deutsche Bank and UnLtd. I have led and conducted school string ensembles and set up beginner string programs for Harrogate Music School, Cardiff Young Strings and The Strings Club, Birmingham. My teaching style incorporates aspects of Dalcroze and Kodaly methodology as well as improvisation and collaborative composition. I develop a bespoke approach alongside each student to ensure they are able to get the most out of their lessons and make lessons enjoyable. My lessons focus on developing technique and skills required to play music the student has chosen and I incorporate play and games into lessons to enable the most effective learning. He received his Masters in Solo Performance and Chamber Music with Honors. His diverse musical activities have taken him - both as a soloist, chamber musician and teacher - on concert tours to Brazil, Portugal, France, Germany, Austria, Eastern Europe, North Africa and Asia. Jadenir lived in Vienna from 2007 to 2016. There he performed between 2005 and 2010 as principal violist of the “Spirit of Europe” chamber orchestra, in which he was also a member of the artistic advisory board and was involved in planning-relevant decisions on artistic and organizational issues. He also played in the RSO Vienna and the Ambassade Orchestra Vienna. Jadenir has lived and worked in Berlin since 2016. With chamber music as the center of his life, he founded several ensembles with different line-ups in 2017. Toby is an outstanding instructor and works with children very naturally. My 11 year old son has been taking lessons with Toby for over two months and is eager for each lesson. Toby is extremely talented, but beyond that, he engages my son deeply with the music itself, fundamental techniques, music theory, and even the interpretation of the music. Toby is kind, encouraging, and works with students at a level that is appropriate. He has allowed my son to chose music that if fun and interesting to practice, even though the pieces are challenging. We are located many time zones away from Toby, and the virtual lessons do not hinder our experience with him. In fact, I often sit in to listen to the lessons, as they are so good. My son has had a couple of lessons with Toby while company has been over, and everyone has commented on how amazing Toby is as an instructor. I can not recommend Toby enough and hope to continue lessons with him for a long time.

I had a great first lesson using Ableton! Niki spent time helping me with my equipment set-up and also went through some of the settings with me. He explained things very clearly, answered my questions and showed me some of the basic things necessary to find my way as a beginner using Ableton. I now have a few things to try out and I'm excited to start experimenting and seeing what I can record. Thanks Niki!

As a very beginner with a violin, I would recommend Alice 11 times out of 10 ! She is an excellent professional, thanks to whom I was able to notice clear progress from one session to the next. Thanks to her advice, her corrections and her music theory notions, I could produce a satisfactory sound with my violin ! She is, in my opinion, an excellent teacher !
