Thank you so much - I had a very good experience I want to share! Adam I highly recommend Ananda as a language and music teacher. I am at an intermediate Brazilian Portuguese level and (sadly) an enthusiastic perpetual beginner at guitar given a lack of necessary intrinsic ability. She excelled teaching both for the daily 3 hour lessons I had over 3 weeks. Portuguese instruction: Ananda was not dogmatic and met me where I was. She was able to personalize all our lessons. She used current tools of language acquisition - with much spontaneous and directed conversation using comprehensible input. However, she supplemented this with reading aloud together with translation of texts including geography, poetry and other prose. Ananda also drilled me in grammar when she saw this was necessary, even when it meant revision of shaky basics. All of this was with great humor and tolerance to my infelicities. We also went on fun outings, making use of the markets and parks in Porto to improve my working knowledge of Portuguese. Music instruction: Ananda also worked with me on my guitar playing. She has deep knowledge as both a performing musician of early lute music and a composer. She taught me in Portuguese, which meant my learning solfège, how to sound out rhythm and figure out harmony. She also taught me enough tablature to allow me to accompany her in some early lute music. We also worked intensively on Bossa Nova rhythms, as well as other Brazilian rhythms. She has a passion and love of music that is a delight to behold and infectious. I started my lessons with Giorgia four months ago, and I am so glad to have found her. As a 26-year-old beginner, I was not sure if I should even try to pursue learning an instrument at this point. But now I am so glad I did! I am learning online, and I was a little unsure of how lessons via webcam would go. Despite my prejudice, everything turned out great, even though my setup is quite basic. Her approach to teaching is very creative. She is able to explain things that seem hard to put into words, and she always finds comparisons and descriptions that convey clearly little details of approach that make a lot of difference in the end result. For any difficulty I encountered, she presented methods of exercise that helped correct it. Another thing that I appreciate is that from one lesson to the next, the volume of work is challenging enough that I feel I am making progress, but not to the point that I am overwhelmed. Also, even though I am just beginning and the pieces are not that complex, she explains the musical interpretation in a way that not only helps me advance my skill but also enriches the way I understand and listen to music, and I find great value in that. Her manner of teaching is very organic, and she is a patient teacher with a warm presence. I wholeheartedly recommend her lessons!

I had previously played some classical for a few years, but was looking to learn jazz piano and improvisation as well. For this David is ideal, as he studied both as a classical and jazz musician, and has a deep understanding of each. About half the lessons we focus on jazz improvisation. During the lessons I improvise over a few songs, and each session he gives feedback, while adding a new layer of difficulty. We've also worked a lot on rhythm, which has really helped me bridge the gap between classical and jazz. We spent a few lessons on classical pieces as well, to refine technique and musicality. My playing feels much more fluid and musical already, and he's really helpful/knowledgeable with the details. Also, on the weeks where I did have not had much time to practice, we do a more (jazz) theory oriented lesson, which has also helped alot with my improvisation. Overall, I only have positive things to say about the lessons! David is a very easy-going teacher, and from the first lesson I felt very comfortable asking him questions. He's very versatile as well, and easily adapts the lesson according to what suits us best that week.
