Trusted teacher: I am a professional violin, viola and music theory teacher based in Berlin. I teach in person at students' location, at my location or online. As well as regular instrumental teaching and ensemble coaching of all age groups and levels over the last 11 years, I’ve led numerous professional workshops, including ‘Music First’ and ‘Music Masters’ workshops in London and was an assistant on the Primary Arpeggione viola course and Springgrove music competition. I teach in English, Russian, French and German and regularly prepare students for music exams at all levels. I am currently a member of the European String Teachers’ Association, and have participated in ESTA conferences across Europe. I regularly accompany students on the piano, and can work on music theory, aural and sight reading skills for exams, including on grades in theory and academic exams across all stages. As a performing musician, I perform regularly as a soloist and chamber musician in venues across Europe, most recently including the ‘Rome Chamber Music’, ‘Gstaad Menuhin’ und ‘Miesbach Chamber Music’ Festivals, and have participated in several international competitions, notably receiving the Barbirolli prize at the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition 2019. A recent masters graduate with first class honours from the class of Tabea Zimmermann at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, I have also worked with numerous renowned artists including Lawrence Power, Ettore Causa and Nobuko Imai. I participated in the International Musicians Seminar at Prussia Cove in 2019 and 2022, and in recent years collaborated with composers Garth Knox, Vasilis Alevizos and Thomas Jones on their new works. I play in a number of ensembles and have twice performed with musicians from the Berlin Philharmonic and clarinettist Matthew Hunt at HellensMusic festival, as well as with Claudio Mehner and Christoph Poppen in Santander, Spain and with members of the ARC ensemble at the Music of Exile Festival in Toronto, Canada. I was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra in 2018, and a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain from 2014-2015, appearing on BBC Radio 3 broadcasts and a televised BBC Prom, as well as being involved in the NYO outreach programme ‘inspire’ in schools across London, including workshops and interactive performances at the Royal Festival Hall. ** Reviews Below **

Viola lessons, intermediate - advanced (in English, German, Russian or French) (Berlin)
Toby is an outstanding instructor and works with children very naturally. My 11 year old son has been taking lessons with Toby for over two months and is eager for each lesson. Toby is extremely talented, but beyond that, he engages my son deeply with the music itself, fundamental techniques, music theory, and even the interpretation of the music. Toby is kind, encouraging, and works with students at a level that is appropriate. He has allowed my son to chose music that if fun and interesting to practice, even though the pieces are challenging. We are located many time zones away from Toby, and the virtual lessons do not hinder our experience with him. In fact, I often sit in to listen to the lessons, as they are so good. My son has had a couple of lessons with Toby while company has been over, and everyone has commented on how amazing Toby is as an instructor. I can not recommend Toby enough and hope to continue lessons with him for a long time.
Violin Lessons for All Levels - Beginner through Conservatory (Berlin)
Usha is an engaging, knowledgeable, fun and experienced violinist and teacher. In just my first lesson as an intermediate student, Usha covered significant ground ranging from the biomechanics of my paying to gaps in artistic expression. She is very personable , patient and focused on enabling the student to reach their playing goals. Given her experience her lesson fees are incredibly reasonable. Highly recommended!
Violin lessons - Experienced teacher - guaranteed results! Achieve your goals! (Berlin)
Jovana is a well organized and well structured teacher. We have had only three classes and she has already taught me how to read music notes and I have no musical experience at all. She is reliable and patient. She gives her 100% and doesn’t lose confidence in her students. She is also very linguistically gifted. I am going to continue taking lessons with her :)
