Trusted teacher: Professional violin and viola teacher based in Berlin, teaching in person at students' location or online, in English, German or Russian. As well as instrumental teaching and ensemble coaching of at all levels over the last 12 years, I’ve led numerous professional workshops, including ‘Music First’ and ‘Music Masters’ workshops in London and was an assistant on the Primary Arpeggione viola course and at the Springgrove music competition. As a member of the European String Teachers’ Association, I participated in their conferences across Europe. I have prepared students for music exams at all levels, working with them on music theory, aural and sight reading skills, and regularly accompany students on the piano. As a performing musician, I appear as a soloist and chamber musician internationally, recently including at the ‘Gstaad Menuhin’, ‘Schiermonnikoog’ and 'Rome Chamber Music' festivals. I have participated in several international competitions, notably receiving the Barbirolli prize at the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition 2019, 1st prize at the Małopolska competition, and the Len Lickorish Memorial Prize at the Royal Overseas League International Strings Competition. I hold a masters degree with first class honours from the class of Tabea Zimmermann at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, and Bachelors with the same distinction from the Royal Academy of Music in London. I attended the International Musicians Seminar at Prussia Cove on four occasions and have collaborated with composers Garth Knox, Vasilis Alevizos and Thomas Jones on their new works, with performances in London and at the Agora Music Festival in Luxembourg. As a chamber musician I have played with the 12, Seida and 4|12 ensembles, as well as with musicians of the Berlin Philharmonic and clarinettist Matthew Hunt at HellensMusic festival, with Tabea Zimmermann at the Laeiszhalle Hamburg, with Claudio Martínez Mehner and Christoph Poppen in Santander, and with members of the ARC ensemble at the Music of Exile Festival in Toronto, Canada, amongst others. I was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra in 2018, and a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain from 2014-2015, appearing on BBC Radio 3 broadcasts and a televised BBC Prom, as well as being involved in the NYO outreach programme ‘inspire’ in schools across London, including workshops and interactive performances at the Royal Festival Hall. ** Reviews Below **

Ellie - Wiesbaden64€
Trusted teacher: Are you interested in violin/viola lessons that are fun and enriching? I have over 10 years experience as a violin and viola teacher and I have a master of Viola Performance and a Bachelor of Music in Violin & Viola Performance and Pedagogy. I have performed across the world, following the music to Australia, New Zealand, China, Singapore, Germany, France, Austria, and Finland. I also compose my own music for myself and my students. It is very important for me as a teacher to support my students to have freedom of self expression and a strong technical foundation on their instrument. I want my students to love music and to love their instrument. We look into music history and listen to a wide range of musical styles. In each lesson I include an improvisation or composing activity so that every student is able to have the chance to share their musical identity and to gain self confidence. In the lessons I encourage my students to analyse the music and to make their own solutions to practice: with younger children musical challenges become small games while for teenagers and adults they are musical puzzles to be solved. I have a focus on freeing the body to play the violin as naturally as possible inspired by how Feldenkrais Technique helped me as a student. I know that it is much more enjoyable to practice when one is pain free and feeling balanced and relaxed. I include a small warm up routine into our lessons and am always careful to introduce new playing techniques with a relaxed posture. Feeling nervous before any kind of public performance is normal and part of being a musician. I encourage all of my students to conquer their fear and to feel wonderful in their playing. It is so important to have a chance to play for others and to share music is a special gift. Visualising, memorising and breathing techniques are part of the confidence boosting preparations for students who would like to give performing a go.

Trusted teacher: I am a professional musician and music teacher with 20 years of experience. I studied at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome and graduated in 2003. I lived and worked in London for nine years, where I performed at venues including the Royal Albert Hall and Wembley Arena. I have taught privately and at several schools, including SEN (special needs schools). I teach the following: Cello (all ages and levels) Violin (all ages and levels) Singing (all ages and levels) Piano (all ages, beginners and intermediate) Notation, So Fa and Theory Songwriting/Composing/Music Technology Arranging/Producing Mixing and mastering Orchestration I use the Anglo-American method called ABRSM as well as the Italian method of the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia. Most of my students receive distinction in their exams. Documents can be sent upon request. In detail: For cello and violin I teach their specific techniques along with musicality, ear, theory and harmony, sight reading, repertoire, improvisation and preparation for ABRSM exams. For singing, I teach diaphragm techniques, projection and resonances, chest and head singing: jazz, pop, rock and opera. For piano I follow the ABRSM system. For songwriting and composition/music technology I use Logic Express and LogicProX on the Mac, both classic and innovative notations. I teach how to record, mix and master a song and how to create an album CD from A to Z. I also teach and orchestrate. By layering the violin and cello, it is actually possible to reproduce a believable ensemble or even the strings of a full orchestra.

Toby is an outstanding instructor and works with children very naturally. My 11 year old son has been taking lessons with Toby for over two months and is eager for each lesson. Toby is extremely talented, but beyond that, he engages my son deeply with the music itself, fundamental techniques, music theory, and even the interpretation of the music. Toby is kind, encouraging, and works with students at a level that is appropriate. He has allowed my son to chose music that if fun and interesting to practice, even though the pieces are challenging. We are located many time zones away from Toby, and the virtual lessons do not hinder our experience with him. In fact, I often sit in to listen to the lessons, as they are so good. My son has had a couple of lessons with Toby while company has been over, and everyone has commented on how amazing Toby is as an instructor. I can not recommend Toby enough and hope to continue lessons with him for a long time.

Usha

Usha is a world-class violinist and violin teacher! I studied from a young age and through college at a relatively high level, but had to put it down for many years once I started working. Usha has helped me relearn the fundamentals with good habits and regain confidence as a performing artist. I love how creatively she tackles complex problems, and how her violin lessons--though focused on music and technique--seem to involve big life lessons as well. I look forward to continuing to study with Usha!

Rebekka was an excellent teacher from the very first interaction. During our sessions, she was calm, friendly, and very easy to talk to thus creating a comfortable and encouraging learning environment. She gave me honest, thoughtful feedback that was both helpful and constructive. I felt supported and motivated throughout the conversations we had. Learning with her was such a great experience and I wholeheartedly recommend her!
