In my lessons, I focus on the joy of playing — how to enjoy the music, build control and confidence, and play the music you love. I work with my own books, with pieces and songs I’ve played over the years, and I also teach songs that students love and want to learn. I teach how to figure out songs by ear, understand how to play them, write charts, and more. We can work together on reading notation and tablature, proper technique, playing classical pieces and songs, improvisation, ear training, rhythm, and music theory — all tailored to your level and goals. I taught for many years at a conservatory, as well as privately. Some of my students started learning with me from the very beginning, stayed committed, and today they play at a very high level and perform in various ensembles. This October, I’ll begin an exchange program at the University of the Arts Berlin (UDK), and I’ll likely continue living here. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in classical guitar performance from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, and a diploma in jazz guitar performance from Rimon School of Music. I understand the path of every musician, because I’ve been through it myself. I started out learning on my own, and only after finding good teachers did I realize how much proper guidance and a teacher’s dedication can make a real difference. My teaching style incorporates aspects of Dalcroze and Kodaly methodology as well as improvisation and collaborative composition. My lessons focus on developing technique and skills required to play music the student has chosen and I incorporate play and games into lessons to enable the most effective learning. Having studied Professional Musicianship at the British Institute of Modern Music, my understanding of music is both professional and practical, and this is the approach I take when teaching. Sam is an amazing teacher, patient and open to the student's goals and suggestions. His approach is more technical than theoretical but will nonetheless get anyone willing to learn up to speed on the basics into more advanced notions. He assessed what I was already able to do on the guitar to fill the gaps and help me progress into further fields. So far he's taught me the electric guitar, a bit of bass and piano and I'm very happy about all of it.
