I am a professional violin and viola teacher based in Zurich, teaching in person at students' location or online, in English, German or Russian. (Reviews below) As well as instrumental teaching and ensemble coaching of at all levels over the last 12 years, I’ve led numerous professional workshops, including ‘Music First’ and ‘Music Masters’ workshops in London and was an assistant on the Primary Arpeggione viola course and at the Springgrove music competition. As a member of the European String Teachers’ Association, I participated in their conferences across Europe. I have prepared students for music exams at all levels, working with them on music theory, aural and sight reading skills, and regularly accompany students on the piano. Toby is an outstanding instructor and works with children very naturally. My 11 year old son has been taking lessons with Toby for over two months and is eager for each lesson. Toby is extremely talented, but beyond that, he engages my son deeply with the music itself, fundamental techniques, music theory, and even the interpretation of the music. Toby is kind, encouraging, and works with students at a level that is appropriate. He has allowed my son to chose music that if fun and interesting to practice, even though the pieces are challenging. In fact, I often sit in to listen to the lessons, as they are so good. My son has had a couple of lessons with Toby while company has been over, and everyone has commented on how amazing Toby is as an instructor. Besides being very active as a performing violinist, I have also been teaching children and adults for years with pleasure. I graduated from the conservatory and also graduated as an orthopedagogue and music therapist. As a result, I have a lot of knowledge and patience when working with children/adults who need specific attention. Think of people with autism, giftedness and mild intellectual disabilities. Of course, you are also welcome as an adult with or without additional challenges. I have 3 children myself, 2 of whom are highly gifted. This has ensured that I teach these children with even more enthusiasm, understanding and patience. I am Carlos (08/02/1992), professional violinist and violin and viola teacher. I started playing the violin when I was 15 years old. This means I can still clearly remember the methods and techniques I used to learn how to play the violin. I will certainly take these experiences with me into my teaching position. These insights allow me to teach each student according to his/her desires and needs. My passion for teaching started when my father and nephew wanted to learn to play the violin. Since then I have continued to teach many students because I get energy and inspiration from my students. In recent years I have taught many different students and because of this I have gained a lot of experience in using different methodologies. Teaching is a big responsibility. My priority is to let the student have fun while learning and to stimulate musicality/creativity. Every student is different and has different interests, therefore every student will be taught in a different way and with a different method. The styles I teach can vary from classical to jazz, pop, etc. I have taught students of different levels both in Spain and in the Netherlands: beginners, amateurs, advanced. So I teach students who are preparing for the conservatory, but also the very first beginners. Because I am from Spain, I can teach in Spanish, English and Dutch.

I am a professional musician and educator, with international experience as a Violin/Viola/ Chamber Music/Theory teacher, soloist, orchestra leader, chamber musician, and jury member. I have graduated in Violin at the Conservatory of Music "G.P. da Palestrina" of Cagliari- Italy and in Viola at the Conservatory of Music "G. Verdi" of Milan-Italy. My professional activity led me to work in several orchestras as performer, and in various music schools as upper- string and chamber music teacher. I lived and worked in Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, and since 2012 I made London my home, where I developed further teaching experience within the British system. I have also founded "The Geminiani Project" of which I am the director and the leader of the Camerata Geminiani, ensemble that has been invited to perform in England, Italy, Germany, France, Portugal, Denmark, and Sweden. At the same time I have established my ensemble, I have also launched the Geminiani Youth Orchestra (formed by young musicians aged 6 to 17 years old) as I believe in the importance of giving an opportunity to young players to perform together, and the amateur ensemble Hampton Chamber Orchestra; we performed with both orchestras at various venues in London. Regarding my teaching technique, I believe that each student is different and unique, so the first thing I try to do is to establish a connection, then I try to understand the major skills and major difficulties of the student in order to develop a personalised system; I pay much importance also to the emotional aspect the student is dealing with in order to build passion and love for music. I strongly believe that, once achieved a technical skill, the student must have the chance to play with the teacher and with other students, and feel the excitement of making music together. I have experience in preparing students for auditions, competitions, or ABRSM/Trinity exams with excellent results; I love what I do and I love to see my pupils achieving high level results. DURATION OF THE COURSE AND ITS CONDUCT: Methods adapted to the objectives / desires of the student. My mission: Make learning simple but effective in order to focus on pleasure. The courses are not on the watch. Thus, the student can choose to end the course only when he considers having obtained enough lessons but also to determine the duration in advance if he has imperatives.
