For beginner students: We cover technical elements such as violin and bow positioning and holding, bow movement, left-hand placement, scales, and positions. We also work on developing ear training and rhythm. We may also introduce basic music theory concepts, such as reading notes. For jazz and improvised music: scales or arpeggios that can be played on a given chord, modes and their use, rhythm, improvisation exercises, phrasing (swing, Latin, funk, etc.), learning jazz standards, how to amplify on stage, etc. For classical music: scales and arpeggios, technical exercises for the left and right hand, how to put together a piece, musicality and interpretation.
