Hey! My name is Seán, and I am an Irish singer-songwriter based in London with 2 years of teaching experience. I teach a range of disciplines, including piano, guitar, vocals, songwriting, and music theory. Having taught students of all ages and different levels of musicianship, I am pleased to say that I have built long-lasting relationships with many of my students. With an emphasis on creativity and student input; my lessons allow students to discover their own playing style and musical direction. I strongly believe that people learn best when they enjoy what they’re doing, and I incorporate this into my teaching style. I strongly encourage my students to bring their own ideas and suggestions to the lessons; that way they can learn a piece of music that they really like. With a background in classical music, I underpin my lessons with useful technical exercises that encourage dexterity, time-keeping and fluency. Finally, I encourage all my students to learn at least the fundamentals of music theory and sight reading. Striking a healthy balance between diligent exercises, music theory and fun musical expression, my lessons allow students to explore their musicality on all fronts. Developing an understanding and knowledge of music theory helps musicians at all levels to perform confidently and interpret the music with ease. In preparing for a music theory exam you grasp the fundamentals of rhythm, harmony and melody which is essential for good musicianship. If you're taking a Practical or Performance Grade 6, 7 or 8, you must pass Grade 5 or above in Music Theory before you book your exam to make sure that you have the understanding you need to interpret and perform music at these higher grades. My classes are for the beginner to intermediate level musicians and I will cover everything you need for music theory exams up to Grade 5 theory.

I have a Diploma in Music Teaching Performance, a Bachelor in Music Performance and a Master's in Performance Science. I have years of teaching experience with students of all ages and abilities. I strive to make lessons an encouraging and enjoyable environment for students. I set attainable weekly goals to ensure consistent development from week to week, with sensitivity and awareness of each student's individual needs and abilities. I have experience in preparing students for ABRSM exams, competitions and recitals. Together, we will work on building technique through, studies, exercises and pieces. Lessons will also involve developing music theory, musicality and performance optimisation.

I teach from beginner to advanced in Recorder ( to diploma) Piano to Diploma and Clarinet to Grade 8_ I have been teaching for many years and my approach has evolved over the many years that I have been teaching so i can teach most children and adults who are keen to learn a musical instrument and raise their self esteem as i also enter them for grade exams when they are ready and willing, and also provide performance opportunities at a local church for all my students young and old. Exams are not compulsory as they are not exclusively the means of progress, which often comes from inner motivation
