I specialise in tutoring music from beginner level to secondary school, having taught in the classroom up to IB and A Level music. I have taught composition and music technology coursework in these higher level studies and have had students attain a place at Oxford University to read music.

No matter if you are a performer, composer, or academic musician, a solid grasp on music theory is extremely important. I have taught theory from beginner to advanced level and can tailor lessons to specific needs.

I am a freelance composer and producer outside of tutoring and love to provide lessons for those who share the same enthusiasm for this creative process. The focus will be on honing composition and production techniques and refining the musical language of the artist. Even for beginner-entry creators, learning this at the start would be excellent for development.

About Me
Liam started his musical career as a treble in two Royal Opera House productions and as a member of the semi-professional boys’ choir Libera, recording CDs and performing in world tours from 2007-2012. He attended the London Oratory School, where he sang with the well-renowned Oratory Schola Cantorum, after which he read music at Christ Church, Oxford, holding a choral scholarship at the cathedral. Liam continued to perform whilst studying, appearing in multiple plays, musicals, and operas both in Oxford and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Upon returning to London, Liam worked at Whitgift as a Graduate Music Assistant for three years, singing regularly at Croydon Minster as a Lay Clerk and teaching in the school. Liam has composed and arranged music for many of the productions and concerts at the school.
Since graduating from Christ Church, Oxford in 2017, Liam has composed and arranged music for many ensembles. His first commissioned work, A Cradle Song, was written for the Colla Voce Singers and performed at their Christmas Carol concert in 2018. Last year he was shortlisted as a finalist for the National Centre for Early Music Composition Competition, and was commissioned by Flöduo to write the violin and flute duet Gígnomai, which was performed at Chichester Cathedral in May 2019. He also A recent commission for the choir Sansara, viol player Liam Byrne, and live electronics will be premiered later this year. Liam has most recently been commissioned by the Society of Strange and Ancient Instruments to write a piece for trumpet marine ensemble.
Liam is also a producer and has begun writing music for film - having been commissioned to write the soundtrack to the short film Empty Nest by Benedict Philipp, released as part of the Indoors Project Film Festival.
Liam continues to perform with such groups as Ante Terminum Productions, Opera Xylem, and the Colla Voce Singers, as well as playing keyboards for jazz groups and musical theatre bands.

Almost all music today is made using computers—whether it's composed, recorded, or edited with music software. It has never been easier to create music yourself, requiring very little equipment or prior experience.

I offer classes for all skill levels, from beginners who want to learn the basics and get to grips with music-making software, to experienced artists and producers looking to refine their skill set and make their music sound unique and professional.

I have worked with artists across a wide range of genres, backgrounds, and ages. Through this experience, I’ve found that the common goal and joy in music is honest self-expression, something I pride myself on encouraging and facilitating, no matter your level of experience or confidence.

The structure and timeline of the classes are flexible and can be tailored to your needs. For beginners, I typically recommend starting with an hour-long session once a week for ten weeks. The goal would be to finish at least two songs or pieces of music by the end of the course. Classes can be conducted in person or online.

I am a classically trained musician. I was a chorister at Cambridge's King's College Choir as a child and received a music scholarship to one of the UK’s top secondary schools, where I studied trumpet, piano, viola, singing, and composition. It was there that I discovered my passion for music production on computers. I also achieved top grades in Music Technology and offer tutoring for Music Technology exams at both GCSE and A-Level. I then went on to study at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, specializing in Electronic and Produced Music, where I graduated with a first-class degree. My studies included modules in popular music production, songwriting, film music composition, acousmatic music, and orchestration, among others.

Since then, I have been working with the charity Key Changes, where I visit psychiatric hospitals and forensic wards to collaborate with patients on music production and songwriting. A large part of this work involves creating instrumentals for rappers, which allowed me to learn how to produce drill and trap music. I’ve also run music production workshops for children aged 8-16 and provided individual tutoring to many young learners.

I have an enhanced DBS check and extensive experience working with children aged 4 and up, including students with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I look forward to hearing from you!
