Resources for improvement have never been so plentiful: videos, gaming platforms, tactical exercises, databases, analysis engines... However, having access to more information does not always mean making better progress. Watching videos can be instructive, but it often remains a passive activity: understanding an explanation is very different from being able to find the right idea yourself in front of the chessboard. Many players prefer fast paces, whereas taking more time to think during games is often essential for improvement. After the game, they check their accuracy rate, browse the variants offered by the engine and identify their mistakes... without always understanding why they made them. An engine can tell you the best move, but it doesn't teach you how to find it yourself. That's the whole difference between knowing the answer and learning how to think. To make lasting progress, you need to go beyond simply acknowledging the mistake: understand why it happened and what needs to change in your way of thinking.
