Trusted teacher: Private lessons for beginners to advanced level of violin playing. All ages are welcome. I am a professionally trained teacher and violinist for almost two decades. My lessons are given in English, Spanish and (soon) Dutch and French. My teaching method is variable depending on the students' needs, but the goal is shared: to make a great musician and qualified violinist out of the pupil. I work on both technical and musical aspects from a (very) consciously prepared healthy and enjoyable perspective. Particular emphasis on having fun with the little ones! I pay special attention to creating a personalized education and experience for every one of my students. I also give some additional tools applicable to the violin playing which includes: Introduction to Yoga, Feldenkrais, Alexander Technique and Body & Mind. All the basic theory is taught too. Occasionally, there are student concerts and collaborations with other teachers. (These may include some teachers from the Sweelinck Academy or the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, and more). From among the required tools for my lessons are: a violin and a bow, score and books purchases when necessary, and, from time to time, meetings with the parents. On occasion, I use digital tools like phone/tablet apps. I can teach in various places near or in the centre of Amsterdam, or, depending on the need, I can move to pretty much wherever in The Netherlands. About the homework, I send it to the students on a weekly basis and encourage them to participate on competitions and summer music courses. As always, this is conditional on the pupil's stage.

Trusted teacher: Greetings! I am currently studying viola performance and education at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I also completed a Diploma in Music Education and Performance at the Royal Irish Academy of Music before coming to The Netherlands. I have had lots of experience teaching in schools and privately, and I get so much joy teaching people and helping them learn an instrument. My main goal as a teacher is to help students find their passion and love for music and for playing an instrument. I am also very practical in my approach to teaching, always trying to make things as clear as possible for each and every student to understand. I have plenty of experience teaching people of all ages. I also have a good knowledge of individual personalities and temperament which helps me to tailor the lesson to suit you individually. When teaching young children, I find that using various different games with and without the instrument helps a lot with their understanding and development. This resonates well with their impressive abilities to play for many hours every day - something which I think is very important for young children to make the most of while they have it. My understanding of the lessons is that every student should come out with the best feeling of wanting to improve their playing, and I always try to motivate every student in whichever way works best for them. I am also very open to using different approaches when it is not working for the student, and I am known to listen very well to feedback like this. I am flexible with the styles of music I teach and have experience in many different genres. If you need some ideas, together we can find the music that suits you best. The majority of students who start out do so on the violin, and some change to viola some time later. Some students who begin their musical journey on the violin go on to play not only viola but other stringed instruments such as cello and double bass if they grow away from the violin at any stage - so choosing violin in the beginning will certainly give you the most options.

Hierdoor kan ik me dus nog goed herinneren met welke methodes en technieken ik het viool spelen geleerd heb. Deze ervaringen neem ik zeker mee in mijn docentschap. Door deze inzichten kan ik elke leerling lesgeven naar zijn/ haar verlangens en behoeften. Mijn passie voor het lesgeven begon toen mijn vader en neefje viool wilden leren spelen. Sindsdien ben ik vele studenten blijven onderwijzen omdat ik energie en inspiratie krijg van mijn studenten. In de afgelopen jaren heb ik veel verschillende leerlingen les gegeven en hierdoor heb ik veel ervaring opgedaan met het gebruiken van verschillende methodieken. Lesgeven is een grote verantwoordelijkheid. Mijn prioriteit is om de leerling plezier te laten beleven tijdens het leren en om de muzikaliteit/ creativiteit te stimuleren. Elke leerling is anders en heeft andere interesses, daarom zal ook elke leerling op een andere manier en met een andere methode les hebben. De stijlen waarin ik les geef kunnen variëren van klassiek tot jazz, pop, etc. Ik heb zowel in Spanje als in Nederland lesgegeven aan studenten van verschillende niveaus: beginners, amateurs, gevorderd. Ik geef dus les aan studenten die zich voorbereiden op het conservatorium, maar ook aan de allereerste beginners. Omdat ik uit Spanje kom, kan ik lesgeven in het Spaan, Engels en Nederlands.

He believed that since very young children could master the complexity of their native language, they could also master playing the violin. I feel very fortunate to have found Fiachra to assist my daughter (almost 14) to progress on her violin. She was lacking some confidence having moved countries and needing to change to anew teacher. Fiachra is patient and encouraging but also holds her accountable with setting her homework and checking in with her on her progress.

Aida is really nice and patient. She takes time to understand the level of her students and explains clearly how to play this such difficult instrument, and also she makes you feel confident when you hold the bow for the very first time. Looking forward for my next classes with her.
