Ben je geïnteresseerd in de trompet en op zoek naar lessen? Dan kun je hiervoor bij mij terecht in Den Haag of aan huis. De privélessen duren 45 minuten en worden één keer per week of om de week gegeven.

Als je nog nooit trompet hebt gespeeld neem ik alle tijd voor jou om je op de juiste manier trompet te laten spelen. Ik zal in het begin vooral veel aandacht besteden aan het volgende:

Ademhalingstechniek
Het op de juiste manier vasthouden van een trompet
Het nemen van de juiste houding
Het plaatsen van je lippen op het mondstuk op de juiste wijze
Het spelen van je eerste noot
Het lezen van muzieknoten
Dit alles gaat allemaal stapsgewijs. Ik geef les uit het boek Horen, Lezen, Spelen van de Haske. Dit boek bevat een CD zodat je de oefeningen thuis mee kunt spelen. Als je al trompet speelt ga ik ook letten op ademhalingstechniek, houding en aanzet, maar de oefeningen zullen lastiger worden. Ik zal ook met jou doornemen waar je problemen liggen op het gebied van trompet spelen. Aandachtspunten:

Lessen en lesgeld:

Het is aan te raden om wekelijks les te nemen om voldoende vordering te maken. Minimaal één les in de twee weken is nodig voor een zekere regelmaat. Een les duurt standaard 45 minuten maar alles is aan te passen aan persoonlijke wensen

Voorwaarden algemeen:
Voor lessen bij de leerling thuis worden reiskosten doorberekend.
Een les die niet 24 uur van te voren telefonisch is afgezegd wordt wel in rekening gebracht.
Op lessen voor 5 (of meer) leden van één vereniging, geven wij 10% korting als de betaling via de vereniging loopt.

Neem je eigen trompet mee. Heb je nog geen trompet en wil je het eens uitproberen dan kun je ook langskomen voor een gratis proefles. Je kunt dan gebruik maken van een leentrompet.

I am a professional trumpet player who graduated from the Royal Conservatoire in the Hague in Classical (Bachelor's) and Early music (Master's), and I can teach all levels, regardless of type of music.

Special focus on developing a vocal approach to the trumpet, as well as grounding the body in the feeling of rhythm and "opening" the ears.

I started my musical path playing Euphonium and my very first period, and I always wanted to be able to play all the brass instruments. I play Trumpet in some projects of mine here in Holland, for Jazz and Pop bands, and I’m studying Trumpet in a musical way to be professional in stage with it.

My classical studies gave me a good knowledge about the “Brass Technique”, mainly for Trombone, Trumpet and Tuba. I can teach you how to make sound in the proper way to don’t have any problems in the future, and we can find out together what you need to reach the level you desire.

I can let you try the Trumpet in your lesson, but I do not have the other instrument, in the case of Euphonium, Flugelhorn, Horn and Tuba, you must bring your own instrument from the beginning.

In this course we will take car about the quality of the sound, the way you make sound, general techniques and develop of musicality. We will always touch some things such Ear Training, Singing, Breathing, our goal is to reach an healthy way to play, developing all the musical skills you need.

For young beginner, the lesson will focus on inducing interest of playing the instrument through games and sounds that they interested in. Apart from instrumental basic techniques, basic musical theory will also be another main focus for the lesson.

For intermediate students, half of the lesson will focus on strengthen the basic technique and enhance the musicianship.

For Advanced students, the lesson will focus on refining the the advance technique and musical ideas.

*Practicing recording will be given for students to have a clear idea for practicing. Students can always send recordings for feed back beside the lesson time.

Trompetlessen Den Haag - Delft
Muziek is een belangrijk onderdeel van ieders leven in elk stadium, en daarom ben ik van mening dat het onderwijzen van een instrument voor alle leeftijden beschikbaar moet zijn. Of je nu een jong kind hebt dat interesse heeft ontwikkeld in de trompet, of je een werkende professional bent die gewoon zin heeft in een nieuwe hobby, of iemand daar tussenin, ik zal lesplannen op maat voor je ontwikkelen. Leer improviseren, ontwikkel je creativiteit of speel zelfs klassieke concerto's!

Klassiek - Jazz - Pop
Vanaf mijn 7e volgde ik een opleiding tot klassiek trompettist en ontwikkelde toen op 13-jarige leeftijd een interesse in jazz. Ik heb een bachelor in klassieke muziek uit Londen en een jazz bachelor en master uit Nederland. U kunt er daarom zeker van zijn dat, wat uw interesse ook is (misschien weet u het zelf nog niet eens), ik u hoogwaardige training kan geven in uw eigen belang.

Wat te verwachten - Beginners
Voor beginners neem ik de tijd om je kennis te laten maken met de trompet, het leren van repertoire, eenvoudige theorie en techniek, geleidelijk over te gaan naar meer geavanceerde studies en jazz in de vergelijking te verwerken.

Jazz Basis
Mijn jazzlessen beginnen met de basis - het leren van eenvoudige muziektheorie en harmonie, de juiste toonladders en een voorproefje krijgen van de jazztaal, het gemeenschappelijke repertoire en de traditie.

Uitdaging
Naarmate je verder komt, zullen we meer uitdagend ritme, harmonie en melodie verkennen. Het leren van muzikale transcriptie (het proces van het opschrijven van geluiden op papier) is cruciaal voor de ontwikkeling en komt ook aan bod in lessen en mentale oefening. Voor trompettisten de ware sleutel tot succes. Natuurlijk zijn mijn lessen altijd vriendelijk, ontspannen en persoonlijk!

Gemiddeld - Gevorderd
Mijn lessen bestaan uit trompettechniek, dwz het verwerven van de faciliteit om te kunnen voldoen aan de eisen van professioneel trompetspel en de kennis om te gaan met de dagelijkse worstelingen van wat in wezen een zeer veeleisend instrument is.

Ademhaling embouchure
Dit omvat natuurlijk ademhaling, houding, embouchure, articulatie, lange tonen, geluidsproductie, flexibiliteit, vingervaardigheid, uithoudingsvermogen, toonladders/arpeggio's, zichtlezen en gehoortraining. Het is belangrijk om alledaagse fundamentele routines te ontwikkelen: in vorm blijven, evenals het bedenken van geformaliseerde structuren binnen de trompetoefening. De vaak gehoorde uitdrukking luidt - het gaat er niet om hoe lang je oefent, maar hoe en wat - en dat is ongelooflijk relevant voor trompettisten.

Flexibel en in staat om te reizen
Ik woon in Den Haag en geef les vanuit mijn appartement, maar reis graag naar een andere locatie als het uitkomt!
Thuislessen in Delft kunnen geregeld worden.

Over Laurie
Geboren en getogen in de kleurrijke en levendige kustplaats Brighton (VK), begon Laurie op 7-jarige leeftijd trompet te spelen en groeide op in de lokale muziekscene van Brighton en Londen. Hij studeerde klassieke muziek aan de Royal Holloway University of London, waar hij cum laude afstudeerde en in 2014 de Dame Felicity Lott Award voor uitvoering won. Sindsdien woont en studeert hij in Nederland met veel muzikanten uit de Nederlandse en Europese jazzscene. In 2016 studeerde hij cum laude af aan het Codarts Conservatorium na onder andere formeel te hebben gestudeerd bij de Nederlandse jazz-master Jarmo Hoogendijk.

In 2018 studeerde hij af met een masterdiploma aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam met het hoogste cijfer dat ooit door de afdeling is gegeven. Als bandleider behaalde zijn kwartet in 2016 de 3e plaats op de Leiden Jazz Competition en datzelfde jaar maakte hij zijn opwachting op North Sea Jazz Festival. In 2018 werd zijn kwintet geselecteerd als finalist van zowel de Keep-an-Eye Jazz Awards als de prestigieuze Dutch Jazz Competition. Tot op heden heeft hij talloze optredens gedaan op jazzpodia en festivals in en rond Nederland en verblijft hij momenteel in Den Haag (NL) waar hij studenten lesgeeft, optredens geeft en muziek maakt met vrienden.

Welcome! My name is Caleb and I look forward to working together in lessons online or at your home around The Hague!

My teaching is customized to support each student's musical goals. Prior to moving to The Hague, I spent five years teaching group and private lessons for a variety of arts education organizations in Philadelphia (USA). In each space, I create safe and fun learning environments for students by maintaining a consistently supportive demeanor and by using positive reinforcement to encourage student behavior and growth. I’m patient, and empathetic, and maintain a firm belief in all students’ capacity for improvement and success.

In the lessons, we will focus on creating a beautiful, efficient, and flexible sound through various exercises and musical pieces. I will facilitate exploration that leads students to learn about effective learning habits and to be able to self-identify what they can do to improve. This helps students become their own teachers – an essential skill for improving in music, and also relevant in many other areas in life.

A bit about me:
Originally from Indiana (USA), I have performed professionally with the International Chamber Orchestra of Puerto Rico, with organist Clara Gerdes at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, and with members of the American Brass Quintet at the Aspen Music Festival. As a baroque trumpeter, I have performed with The Sebastians, the Philadelphia Bach Collegium, with members of the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, and with the Jeune Orchestre de l’Abbaye and Philippe Herreweghe at the Festival de Saintes. While attending Curtis Institute of Music, my colleagues and I won first prize at the National Trumpet Competition (USA) in the trumpet ensemble division.

As a passionate advocate for music education and arts access, I served as an ArtistYear fellow, teaching sixty-five recorder students at Powel Elementary School in Philadelphia during the 2016-17 school year. I have also served as a teaching artist for Jazz Aspen Snowmass and Philadelphia’s Play on Philly.

As a founding member of The Brass Project from 2016-2018, I premiered over thirty new works written for the ensemble. During this time The Brass Project was featured by Santa Fe Pro Musica, at National Sawdust, and at Music from Angel Fire. Our debut album, “Cityscaping,” was released in December 2018.

I recently graduated with a master’s degree in baroque trumpet at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. I earned an Artist Diploma at the Curtis Institute of Music, and a bachelor’s degree at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music.

Ik heb mijn masterdiploma Trombone Performance behaald aan de Codarts University of Arts in Rotterdam. Mijn naam is Miguel Valles en ik ben trompettist en muziekdocent in Den Haag. Ik heb een master in klassieke en hedendaagse muziek van het Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag en een bachelordiploma van de ESMUC (Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya) in Barcelona.

Als uitvoerend musicus heb ik samengewerkt met diverse vooraanstaande orkesten, zoals Het Balletorkest, Residentie Orkest, NJO Orkest en NASKA. Naast mijn ervaring als uitvoerend musicus heb ik een grote passie voor lesgeven ontwikkeld. Ik heb gewerkt als trompetdocent aan de Hamelin-Laie International School, de Gras i Soler School en de Esplugues del Llobregat Music School in Barcelona, waar ik lesgaf aan leerlingen van verschillende leeftijden en niveaus.

Ik spreek vloeiend Engels en Spaans en ben momenteel Nederlands aan het leren. Mijn lesmethode is gericht op het ontwikkelen van zowel technische vaardigheden als muzikale expressie in een boeiende en leerlinggerichte omgeving.
