Composition lessons are for anyone who wishes to compose music, for any instrument, emsemble and/or electronics music. My teaching method combines various approaches and styles, supporting practice with theoretical knowledge, and most important developing creativity and helping the student in making their imagionary visions come real. For each student a different palate of tools is offered, according to the student's musical wishes and ambitions. I teach the basis of western-music composition - theory, harmony, counterpoint, score-reading, solfege, rhythm, analysis and more. Further I suggest broad overview of world, jazz, pop, new/contemporary music, various styles in electronic music (popular and experimental), improvisatory compositions, graphic notation, text and game pieces, music for theater, film and dance and interdicsiplinary works which combine music with other art fields.

I am a graduate of Conservatorium van Amsterdam in Jazz Piano. I have substantial experience in teaching beginners how to start improvising. You can trust me, I will push you and make you learn it. Improvisation can be learned if the right tools are offered to the beginner. I know what methodology works for upbringing a beginner to start improvising, swinging, and composing a tune. I can guide you through all the scales that jazz musicians use, common chord harmonies used by Bud Powell, Mccoy Tyner, and Herbie Hancock - and most importantly ideas behind them; or you might think you know scales and can't use them in a creative way, I will teach you how to make it a logical language. Swing is the most important element in improvising in a jazz context, and I will guide you on how to practice getting the swing feel, that drives jazz music. Generally, I give lots of assignments, and papers, so it would be nice if the student knew how to read sheet music. If you are a beginner or intermediate who needs a push to get to know common, complex improvisational, compositional, and harmonical ideas, contact me. Hi! My name is Wilma, and I’m a professional cellist. I’ve been playing the cello for most of my life. When I was 3 years old, I saw a woman playing cello on the street, and I fell in love. A year later I started with lessons, and I’ve been enjoying this gorgeous instrument ever since. In my teaching, I look for an approach that works best for each student individually, and challenge them at their own level. Technique and musicality are equally important, and very much connected in my lessons. I approach the instrument with respect to the functioning of the body as a whole, and look for a way of playing that requires the least amount of effort and unnecessary muscular tension, so that the naturally beautiful sound of the cello can be more free to emerge. I enjoy teaching both children and adults, from beginners to advanced players. At the moment, my students are between the ages of 5-80 years, from absolute beginners to very advanced cellists.For young children, it’s important that a parent can listen along to the lessons, and help them to practice at home. A child’s lesson is different from a grown-up’s: with children I do more games, to introduce them to music in a playful manner, and allow them to get comfortable with the technique without having to think about it too much. With children I also work more auditively, e.g. by playing and singing for them and letting them copy that instead of reading notes right away. Whether you would like to learn to play the cello, refine your skills, or further develop yourself as a musician, I would be delighted to join, accompany and guide you on your musical journey. My lessons are for anyone who wants to delve into electronic music & sound design. As an experienced composer, producer and sound designer I specialize in applying my broad knowledge and experience in the field of music & technology. Most successful electronic musicians combine different skills, such as working with music production software and hardware, playing a keyboard, recording and mixing, but also music theory and composition techniques. Because as an electronic musician you often have to deal with different instruments & other sound sources, my lessons are also very suitable if you want to learn to design your own sounds, not only to make music, but also as sound effects for videos or games, for example. Just like in my own professional practice, I teach the different aspects of electronic music production: - sound design ('sound design'), both analogue and digital - synthesis - composition techniques - software for music production, so-called 'DAWs' such as Ableton Live - hardware, such as modular synthesizers and effect units - production: recording and mixing of audio - performance of electronic music It is also possible to learn more about (Western and non-Western) music theory and the history of (electronic) music. Sound is a word with a broad meaning. In these classes we will focus on listening sessions and sound composition/improvisation. At first, we will exercise the art of listening (natural and artificial/man made sounds). Later on we will try to make sound compositions and improvisations manually and on computer programs (optional). Listening is a powerful tool for daily awareness. Listening to your surrounding, means being aware of other things and entities that exist around you, which adds on to a deeper understanding of oneself and one’s environment. Through a selection of music, sounds and a series of exercises, I will guide you through a journey of listening to yourself and your surrounding.
