I hold ABRSM Performance Diplomas in both flute and v​oice, and held the positions of Principal Flute of Oxford University Orchestra and a Choral Scholar whilst at university. I have extensive experience in flute, vocal, and music theory tuition, with many students achieving outstanding results in ABRSM, Trinity, and RSCM examinations. I currently teach students between the ages of 13-18 at Rugby School. My teaching style is highly individualised, where I employ bespoke strategies to ensure each pupil reaches—and surpasses—their academic goals. I place great emphasis upon giving students a well-rounded introduction to specific periods and genres (such as the Classical Symphony or C20 Minimalism) by using a range of recordings to reinforce defining musical characteristics whilst developing their listening abilities. I also encourage students to listen 'around' the curriculum in order to gain a broad overview of relevant styles and structures, and subsequently provide tailored 'listening guides'. By exposing the connections and disjunctures between music from different eras, this approach provides a powerful foundation for mastering the 'compare and contrast' questions which make up many essay questions at GCSE and A Level. I also tutor younger students in preparation for GCSE, with lessons focused on major musical periods and artistic events in order to assist their exploration of the works enshrined within—and diverging beyond—the classical musical canon.
