Since then, I have won dozens of tournaments and progressed my FIDE rating up to 1970. Now, at the age of 21, I am approaching my first (national) title of candidate master, which I hope to achieve soon. My approach to the teaching is very much based on the individual student and his goals. I am of the belief that whatever you want to achieve in chess, you should study all aspects of the game and during our classes we cover many different topics, such as tactical patterns, endgame techniques, positional play, openings, and more. We solve thematic puzzles, analyse the games of chess masters, games of the student, and obviously... play! Hi! I am Flavia and I come from Cuba, but I am living in Spain now. Chess has been part of my life since I was 8 years old. I graduated from the University of Havana as a translator and interpreter in English and Italian languages. I love playing sports and traveling. I have been coaching chess for years. My hours are flexible, and I adapt to my students' needs. I am charismatic and cheerful. My passion for chess started when I was 8 years old, and it was my dad who taught me to play. I am a competitive athlete, I started out wanting to beat a friend, then a match, a championship and that's how my love for this sport grew. I was a provincial and national youth champion for several years in a row. I got second place in the 2012 Pan American U-20 Championship. Also, I got 10th place in the 2011 World Youth Chess Championship in Brazil. I became a FIDE Master at 15 and I have an International Master standard. My highest FIDE rating was 2190. Currently, I only teach, and I love sharing my passion for chess with the students. My teaching methodology is inspired and based on concepts developed by GM Igor Smirnov. I work on expanding Smirnov’s approach to chess by focusing on strengthening and empowering the student’s logical thought process which will allow the student to analyze any position and execute the best possible plans and moves. I like to guide the student in their learning process/path. I believe it is better to study a book thoroughly and assimilate it well than to study 100 poorly. I teach openings in a dynamic and practical way. I am more interested in guiding the student in understanding the logic, plan and idea behind each move rather than drowning them in sole theory. I help the student assimilate basic endgames and the typical plans used in these. My current teaching platforms are lichess and Skype.
