Trusted teacher: I offer personalized transverse flute and/or music theory lessons for students of all ages, from beginner to 2nd cycle. I suggest starting with the flute method of Arlette Biget and Claude-Henry Joubert. Once the basics are acquired, I suggest relying on "le petit flûté" then "le voyage du petit flûté" which contain CDs with models and accompaniment tracks. I provide photocopies for working on technique and music theory. If the student wants to play a particular piece, I can make a suitable arrangement. I can also accompany the student on the keyboard if there is one at your home, playing with an accompanist is beneficial for the student to develop their listening, their mastery of tempo and accuracy. I have 12 years of experience playing the transverse flute and am currently a student in a preparatory course for higher education in transverse flute, musical training and writing at the Conservatoire à rayonnement régional de Lyon. I am also in the process of taking the BAFA. I obtained my degree in musicology at Lyon 2 in 2024-25, as well as my CEM in flute (certificate of musical studies, at the end of the 3rd cycle). I have also completed internships with FM and piano teachers. As a private teacher, I believe it is crucial to listen to the student's specific requests, desires, and needs, so that I can support them and help them develop in their own way. I know how to be patient because we do not all learn at the same pace. I seek to stimulate the student's curiosity and help broaden their horizons and culture. I want to build a relationship of trust with the student and encourage them to actively invest in their learning. Finally, I strive to transmit and maintain the joy that music brings.

With a musical career of over 15 years, he has performed both solo and in collaboration with various musical groups. These include his own bands, esteemed musical artists, cover bands, tribute bands and jazz/swing big bands. His performances have taken him to national and international music venues, festivals, and tours ranging on different styles of music. Having graduated from the Birmingham Conservatoire (BMus Hons Jazz Studies) and also completing the 8th Grade (ABRSM) on Classical Saxophone Rafael has long been enthusiastic about studying jazz and classical music on the saxophone. During all his formative years and most of his career he has enjoyed every opportunity to share his passion through music by being an inspiring, supportive and encouraging woodwind teacher. Over the last 8 years of private instruction experience Rafael has been working as a Woodwind Teacher (saxophone, flute, and clarinet) on both classical and jazz music. He believes in creating a friendly and professional atmosphere making sure that students feel supported on their individual musical journey, by giving them the knowledge necessary for reaching their personal aspirations. Whatever your background, age group or level, whether you coming to instruction for the first time, returning after many years, continuing study after conservatory, preparing for exams or even on a professional path Rafael has enough knowledge. He’s able to adapt his instruction according to individual needs and preferences of each student by providing books, exercises and/or repertoire. In-person lessons usually take place at Rafael’s teaching studio or alternatively on student’s chosen location. Beginners Rafael understands that starting your journey on learning a new musical instrument can be difficult which is why he’s always a supportive and encouraging teacher towards new students. Beginner students don’t need to have any prior experience whatsoever when it comes to either playing or being able to read music. On the 1st lesson usually there’s no need to own an instrument as Rafael will provide everything necessary and guide each student on the basics of how to play the instrument they’re learning. By the end of the 1st lesson students are usually able to play a few notes on the instrument and have all the basic knowledge needed to start learning and begin their musical journey. To benefit from Rafael’s teaching, it’s recommended that student have their own instrument (Saxophone, Clarinet or Flute) although, Rafael has knowledge on available and affordable instrument hire services as well as provides guidance to all students on purchasing their first instrument

I contacted Uma after a big musical break. She has the patience and the smile that will give you confidence to (re)start playing the flute, whatever your level is. Ask her anything and she will always try to answer, propose a new piece and adapt to your needs. If you are interested, she can introduce you to baroque music, the main topic of her studies.
