Hello, I'm Jungmi, a professional jazz pianist and composer. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Jazz Piano and a degree in Jazz Composition from the Maastricht Conservatory. As the leader of the Little Big Jazz Orchestra, which I founded in 2022, I explore rich emotional landscapes through expressive melodies, intricate harmonies, and unique orchestrations.

My orchestra has received recognition, including a nomination for the Maastricht Jazz Awards, the Audience Award, and performances at festivals such as Jazz Out Fest and Make It Jazz Festival in Tilburg. We were also finalists for the Edmond Hustinx Prize and received an Honorable Mention at the Laren Jazz Festival 2024. Currently, we are preparing for our debut album release.

In addition to performing, I offer lessons in jazz piano, composition, and music theory. It can be jazz, pop and gospel music. My teaching focuses on helping students develop a strong foundation while discovering their unique sound. Whether you are looking to improve your improvisation, deepen your understanding of harmony, or compose your own music, I am here to guide you on your musical journey.

About Me

Through my experience playing in church, I have developed a strong understanding of harmonic progressions. As a jazz pianist, I specialize in expressive improvisation, rich voicings, and dynamic interplay within an ensemble. My playing blends sensitivity and technical precision, allowing me to adapt to various musical settings, from solo performances to a bigger settings as well.

For the class of composition will be also very structured. Students will learn different tools to compose or express their emotions in music.

I specialize in piano teaching with a Master in Education and 6 years of teaching experience. My goal is to keep students challenged in a healthy and happy way.

This class is for anyone who wants to play piano, focusing on the taste of the students but also showing other kinds of music that will bring a big variety of musical knowledge to the students.

In the lessons, we will be focusing on setting or developing all the required skills for the students to be able to perform independently, understand the musical language, and explore their own sound. Focusing on posture, hand coordination, rhythm, ear training, reading scores, and improvisation. I hold Masters degree in Opera and have over 10 years experience in operatic singing, sang main roles and been part of a chorus in productions as well worked in theatres like Wiener Staatsoper and Dutch National Opera..

In my 7 years of experience tutoring individuals ranging from 4 to 60 year olds, from budding composers with an interest in music theory, to those who want to learn to perform, I have become a versatile teacher. I take care to get to know you, your areas of interest and your learner type in order to construct methods and practice plans that will be both fun and challenging, allowing you to learn most effectively.
