I am a Belgian composer and performer who plays particularly in jazz, improvisation and world music. I have to my credit several hundreds of concerts, including with my project, a musical ensemble between Burkina Faso and Belgium, taking over my own compositions, and for which I was Winner of the Sabam Awards 2018. Also a musical pedagogue and producer , I am exploring today the multiple links between the image and the musical composition, while giving private lessons and collective workshops.

The saxophone came into my life as a child and has never left! After more than 30 years of playing, I've been able to explore many aspects of this magnificent instrument. I love sharing my experience and watching students grow up playing the pieces they love.

Education

I completed fifteen years of academic studies in Belgium, graduating in solfeggio and classical saxophone. I also studied jazz for seven years and took part in numerous workshops.

Over the past 15 years, I've worked as a musician-composer-performer in various projects (Afrikän Protoköl, Vêtera, Matters, A Consommer de Préférence, Makyzard) and as a composer of soundtracks.

I graduated from the Conservatoire de Nice CNRR (France) in jazz guitar.
I studied there for seven years with renowned professors such as Jean Paul Ceccarelli (Sting), Pierre Bertrand, Robert Persi or Philippe Petit.
My teaching method is flexible and I adapt it to the needs and desires of the student.
We will discuss the technical work on the instrument, the knowledge of the neck and chords and the rhythm. With or without solfege.

I am a trained singer- songwriter & professional musician with a BA (hons) in Composition. Originally from london I moved to Brussels to do my masters degree. I am a trained singing with a level of grade 8, I have also spent the last 6 years touring as a front women and also a backing singing with various artists around europe, including 1 top 10 artist. I understand that although it's great to have a strong technique it's also about letting go and having confidence in your ability so you can relax in the moment.

I welcome students of all levels and all ages and teach a range of genres from Jazz to Rock. Alternatively I am happy to focus on technique if that is something you prefer to work on.

Are you a beginner?? No worries: no experience is required! 😁
I can teach you the basics to produce sounds with your saxophone: position of the embouchure (teeth, tongue, lips and vocal cords' position, an element often forgotten), fingerings, use of diafragma,...
After the first two lessons spent on the mouthpiece and neck for the sound production, we will immediately start to play some super easy duos together to practice your capacity of listening, pay attention to the other, ear training as well. I normally use the book of Peter Wastall (titled Learn as you play) as support, but it is not mandatory. There are plenty of good books btw!

Are you an intermediate / advanced student?? I am sure you can still improve in all the basics, but on a different level. I'll teach you the importance of the "voicing" (technique named by the american saxophonist and pedagogue Donald Sinta) to improve your sound production and projection as well as the capacity of correcting and improving the intonation. You can learn all about phrasing and music interpretation, from tonal music until contemporary atonal compositions. And still, you can improve your playing together, practicing in duo on different aspects like tuning, balance, interpretation, performance etc.

My name is Federico and I am a professional and Award Winning saxophone player.
I worked at Koninklijk Conservatorium of Bruxelles as an Assistant Professor of Jeroen Van Herzeele the jazz saxophone professor.
I graduated at Conservatorio G.Martucci of Salerno (Italy) and had both Bachelor and Master with full marks with honors. During the course of my studies i also spent two academic years abroad , one at the Kask and Conservatorium of Ghent with the supervision of Bart Defoort and one at the Koninklijk Conservatorium of Bruxelles with John Ruocco.
In 2017 i won the "Massimo Urbani International Jazz Competition" prize that saw as head of the jury Kurt Rosenwinkel & Fabrizio Bosso.
I play in several Jazz bands and I have been performing all around Europe.
I recorded a solo album called "Right Now" with the famous Italian label "Philology Records" & the album"Supernova" with my own band. I also recorded several albums with different bands and of many styles, from jazz, funk to pop.
I toured with the famous Italian Drummer Tullio De Piscopo (Pino Daniele, Mina, Astor Piazzolla's drummer) and also had the chance to make a variety of television appearances on Italian National Television (Rai1, Rai5, Rai3).

We will explore the world of electronic music, starting with the basics of sound synthesis and moving on to multi-channel diffusion in 3D audio.
We will see how the most widely used software in the world of electronics (Max/MSP, Ableton, Reaper) works to build performance environments, where we will be able to use the most popular plugins for signal processing or create our own processing engine.
MIDI protocol configuration for controllers, OSC, construction of small electronic circuits with the help of Arduino.
We will pay attention to the acoustic and psychoacoustic aspects of sound that are fundamental for the correct diffusion and listening of music.
We will also take a look at the main audio recording techniques.
As I am very passionate about this and have the necessary equipment, we will have the opportunity to see analog synthesis up close through the use of modular synthesizers.

I started making music as an adult. I always had that drive as a kid, but my family could not afford the lessons. Then life kicked in and there was always a good reason not to get into it. Until one day this old dream popped back up, and I stepped into a music store and got my first DJ controller. This completely changed my life, and a few years later I moved to Berlin to start a full course as a music production student. Fast forward a decade or so and I completely changed carreers and deep delved into sound engineering.

Making music is a place of joy and fulfillment. The only regret I have is to have kept myself from doing it for such a long time. DO NOT WAIT, there is a great deal of happiness on the other side.

I have a tried and true method that I tested on dozens of students, both in workshops and one on one sessions. It's designed to let you access the "having fun" parts in the least amount of time. This approach actually makes the learning curve much smoother, and lets you experiment on your own very quickly. Theory becomes more and more relevant as you go and perfect your skills, but I strongly believe that unlocking the joy potential early while building good habits is the key to any learning experience.
