Trusted teacher: I have a track record of helping 11+, GCSE, A-Level and IB students improve their grades by at least two marks, and many of my students have graduated in the top 1% of their class. I also have considerable experience with helping students write personal statements which (given they've met the grading requirements) have secured them a place in Russel Group universities including Oxbridge. As an editor and writer, I also provide lessons in creative writing. I tutor clients in areas ranging from: - A Level - English Literature and Language - GCSE – English Literature and Language - Pre-GCSE (KS1,2 and 3) – English - Undergraduate Degree Level – English - 11+ (English, Verbal Reasoning) In the first lesson, I provide a detailed assessment of every student. I start by gauging what my student feels they need help with and what they see as their strengths and weaknesses. Then, together, we will come up with a detailed study plan. I have tried and tested methods of preparing students for their exams whether it be helping them understand essay technique, close reading of texts, understanding literary techniques, preparing revision material or learning how to speak and/or write persuasively. According to the needs of the student, I can also assign homework so that the student can maintain their engagement with the topic until the next session. I believe everyone learns differently, and it is my responsibility as a tutor to understand the tutee's learning style so that I can tailor my lessons to the student at hand. This gives them a better chance at grasping linguistic and literary concepts, and, as a result, reaching their full potential.

Trusted teacher: Graduating with a First in English Literature in 2017 from Trinity College, Cambridge, I have tutored 250+ hours in the past two years, at all levels from 7+ to A-Level, and in exam boards from AQA to the UKISET for international students. I have taught both English and international students, and so am familiar with the varieties of difficulty that students can encounter and a variety of approaches for addressing them. I enjoy re-examining the elementals of the subject through tutoring. My students have all registered often substantial improvements and I continue to be asked back by different families if they feel they need a boost. I'm happy to provide references from students and parents. I have taught a variety of age ranges for school admissions from 7 to 13+. I have worked with students aiming for schools including Godolphin and Latymer, Harrodian, Kings Canterbury and Wycombe Abbey. The problems students have had have varied each time, from simple confidence and time-keeping issues, to more difficult ones like English being a second language or dyslexia. However every pupil I’ve taught so far has markedly improved and gained admission to at least one of the schools of their choice. I think my main strength as a tutor is an ability to explain concepts dealing with question structure and exam technique, and help the student to gently internalise them and gain their own confidence. I aim to strike a balance between engaging, personal commitment to making the student see and realise an organic interest in reading and writing, alongside the necessity of navigating exam requirements - but without making them seem restrictive or daunting. I really enjoy trying to individualise lessons for the student's specific needs and so will also try to stoke a personal interest and response to material studied, as I believe this makes for a much more enjoyable and painless process of learning. I am always keen to recommend or discuss specific books or authors of possible help or interest to students or parents. I aim to strike a balance between engaging, personal commitment to making the student see and realise an interest in reading and writing, alongside the necessity of navigating exam strictures and requirements - without making them seem restrictive or off-putting. I can also help with general essay-structuring/researching/writing skills in subjects not related to English. I can also help with Drama and Theatre-related studies.

English Literature is a commonly taught subject in school, but for good reason. The concepts taught in these classes help us learn crucial lessons about our society and ourselves. This is because the themes and traits of character in these books reflect humanity to be more relatable to readers. The skills that are often taught in Literature classes are academic writing, analyzing books & their meanings, and writing essays. As a college student who is currently majoring in English & Comparative Literature, I understand and utilize these skills in my college endeavors. Whether I am writing academically in my Rhetoric Written Argument 200 class, analyzing but also making meaning out of a 55 chapter book (Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie) in my Introduction to English and Comparative Literature class, or writing creatively to tell stories in my Introduction to Creative Writing class, I am still using those skills I learned in high school and middle school to create ideas and improve myself. In my class, I will be tutoring your student based on their academic needs. On the first day of class, I will provide an activity to assess what your student thrives at and what they need to improve on. From then on, I will create activities based off of the skill/skills your student should be working on, whether that be analyzing, annotating, writing essays/academic writing, etc. I will also connect ideas together to help your student understand the bigger picture of Literature. For example, I could teach your student how annotating your book leads to understanding the content better, which then leads to being able to complete assignments at a better quality, and that would then lead to understanding the material more comprehensively, and that leads to scoring well on tests and/or essays. My classroom will help students feel comfortable to ask questions and to grow because I understand how important it is to ask questions in a judgement free environment. As a student who recently undertook the middle and high school experiences, as compared to many teachers, I value your student's experience and I want to help your student enjoy it. Pressures from school can lead to immense stress, which is why I want to create a fun and effective learning environment for your student based off of their needs.

We are very happy with the French lessons Awni gives to our 14-year-old daughter. He is very flexible and adapts the lessons perfectly to her needs and level! He places special focus on pronunciation, vocabulary, listening skills, and conversation, while introducing interesting topics that make the lessons engaging and enjoyable. He is also willing to adjust the lessons to the homework and topics covered at school, which has been extremely helpful for her progress and confidence in French. Our daughter genuinely enjoys the lessons because Awni is motivating, clear, patient, and kind. He creates a positive atmosphere that makes learning fun and effective at the same time!! We highly recommend him as a French teacher!
