Piano is a fun and rewarding way to explore music for people of all ages, whether you've played music before or not, and is one of the most accessible instruments right from the first lesson! I teach with a variety of pop-transcriptions and easy Classical pieces, simple improvisation and harmony exercises, and am comfortable adapting to each pupils own way of learning. If you're new to piano, or have played before and want to rekindle your love of music, get in touch to arrange a first lesson! I will book us a room with a grand piano at the Academy. I graduated Master’s cum laude in Piano Performance at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre studying with prof. Peep Lassmann, who was himself a student of the great Russian pianist Emil Gilels. I have 12 years' private teaching experience, and was employed by Märjamaa Music and Art School as a 1:1 piano teacher in 2018-19. I also have a BMus (Hons) degree from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and DipABRSM, the standard professional teaching qualification in the UK. Reviews from current students: "Jamie is an amazing teacher. I had no knowledge of piano before him and was worried in general of being able to learn. His way of explaining, patience and incredible passion for music gave me the push to try and are reinforcing my motivation to learn more day-by-day. Our classes are alive, fun, and so much like a continuous journey through all the aspects of piano music." - Angelyk "Jamie makes this comfortable atmosphere, you'll never be afraid to make a mistake. I learned a song already in my second/third lesson. 🙂 " - Taimi

I believe that anyone can learn music and piano in different stages of life with different goals and that this requires a commited, passionate, adaptable and akwnoledged teacher. In my years of education, since I began playing the piano, and later followed the professional path; I’ve seen and encountered uncountable situations being both student and teacher that made me highly value the teacher’s role and aimed to incorporate it in my career development. My previous experiences in the field include regular private teaching, individual and in music academies during two-three years in Barcelona to students either kids, teenagers or adults (presential and online). I have also prepared music entrance examinations to public schools and conservatòries in Catalonia, covering piano lessons and music theory lessons. The added values that I can bring are experience in reinforcement teaching in high school subjects, coaching solo musicians when accompanying them and accompanying and leading choirs. I have the skills of good communication, commitement, patience and adaptability which I think they make me a good candidate for the job. Moreover I can communicate in German and French too, in case needed. Trusted teacher: I teach for all levels, from children starting from zero to students who want to prepare certifications at the Conservatories, passing through amateurs or simply curious of any age. I firmly believe in the importance of knowing how to read music and this is exactly what I teach first, obviously adapting the method to the age of my students: knowing how to read music is knowing one more language, which, if learned well, won’t ever be forgotten (like riding a bicycle!) and it is an invaluable wealth. Starting from that point I teach the position of the hand, the arm and the whole body at the piano, the fundamentals of the piano technique (giving great importance to the percussive movement of the finger and the distribution of weight), the understanding of musical language, the expression of the personality through the keyboard, the search for touch and knowledge of piano repertoire.

I am Nigel, a current piano instructor giving out lessons for beginners who want to get into learning the piano or build a consistent practice routine to building foundational piano technique from scratch. I currently offer online lessons from afternoons to late evenings as per your time preferences. Lessons are scheduled hourly and on a weekly basis. I teach based on the student’s learning approach and use methods that are tried and tested by most of the teachers in the piano teaching industry. Teaching style includes a bit of visual cues, practical approach and fun filled lessons with your choice of a favorite piece. Note that most of the repertoire we will cover is from the classical period but I do allow a mix of pop, jazz and blues tunes in our learning repertoire list. Currently Im in the second year B.M degree program at Belmont University and have done years of private lesson tutoring with some other students but on a small scale. In the coming years from now, I intend to expand my teaching expertise by finding other students who are interested in learning from me. My current student Luke (although I teach him in person since I’m based in the U.S) has benefited from my teaching methods and is still my prime student today. He joined back this year in august and loves my teaching approach. He particularly favors visual and practical methods towards certain topics but loves the choice of online / offline classes. Would love to get started with anyone interested! Looking forward for the online classes.
