I hold a Master of Music degree in piano performance (with merit) at Goldsmiths, University of London and have taught piano and music theory to students in Hong Kong, Beijing, Zhejiang and London for over fifteen years.

I welcome students from beginner to advanced level and am equally happy to help my students pass music exams or just learn to play piano for their own enjoyment.

When teaching kids and beginners, I strictly follow the traditional conservatory method of training the postures, fingers and muscles properly from the very beginning of the learning process. And for kids, I highly recommend that parent(s) can help monitor their practice at home.

For adult students, the most important thing is to analyse your performance, to find the problems that prevent you from playing better, face them and fix them. I provide creative solutions according to your conditions. I helped a senior student (60+ years old) to pass ABRSM Grade 8 with merit, a 20-year-old student to play keyboard and sing in his band after 10 lessons, and a high school student to get music scholarship in UK.

I believe in the power of encouragement and motivation. And always remember, practice makes perfect.

About Me

I was born on the island of Zhoushan, China and began piano lessons when I was four years old with my grandfather, a multi-instrumentalist and conductor. I then studied privately with Lijuan Tang, one of the leading young pianists in China, who at the time was at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, regularly travelling overnight on the ferry from Zhoushan to Shanghai to attend my lessons.

Having moved to London to pursue my musical studies, I trained with most distinguished British pianists Andrew Zolinsky and Danny Driver and completed a Master of Music degree in piano performance (with merit) at Goldsmiths, University of London.

My repertoire ranges from Baroque, Classical and Romantic to 20th and 21st Century piano, with a special love for early 20th century impressionists such as Debussy, Ravel and Albeniz.

I completed a Master of Music degree in piano performance (with merit) at Goldsmiths, University of London in 2016. Prior to that, I read mathematics in Peking University and economics & finance in The University of Hong Kong.

Experience / Qualifications

In London, I performed regularly with Goldsmiths Sinfonia, Goldsmiths Keyboard Collective, Goldsmiths Contemporary Music Ensemble and Goldsmiths Chamber Choir all around London including Southbank Centre. I also performed in Joanna MacGregor and Graham Fitkin's masterclasses.

In Hong Kong, I performed at events such as Hong Kong’s Celebration of Anniversary of P.R. China and Hong Kong SAR Anniversary Celebration in The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

I passed Grade 10 (top level at that time) piano performance exam organised by Shanghai Musician Association, China and Grade 10 music theory and ear training exam with distinction at the age of 11.

Aiming to branch out in the field of music, Virginia has took up various arts administration and marketing positions in leading ensembles such as the English Music Festival, London City Philharmonic and more since 2016.

A former scholar at the Royal College of Music London, sponsored by The Kenneth and Violet Scott Award, I earned a degree in Piano Performance under the tutelage of Nigel Clayton, Peter Jablonski and Ruth Nye.
