Este curso es un intento por inyectar el interés a cada alumno(a) por conocer el amplio compendio histórico que nuestro país tiene iniciando con una cronología que parte desde la época prehispánica, la vida colonial e independiente y finalmente la modernidad hasta 1996. Al conocer cada una de estas fases y eventos que se han producido por más de cinco siglos en Guatemala, el estudiante podrá emitir juicios de valor adecuados utilizando teorías, métodos y herramientas propias que la disciplina histórica ofrece a fin de concientizar, proponer y reflexionar sobre la realidad que hoy en día nos envuelve completamente como ciudadanos. El curso está enteramente dedicado hacia aquellas personas que conocen y no conocen la historia guatemalteca. El recorrido en el tiempo será trabajado con la mayor facilidad didáctica para que el alumno pueda tener una mejor recepción de las informaciones del curso y además de ello, con ejercicios y dinámicas orientadas al contenido de la clase.

En estos tiempos neurodivergentes, la división binaria de "una o dos lenguas" en los bilingües quizás deba ser objeto de cierta controversia, que los estudiantes son capaces de ofrecer. Siempre he encontrado que los modelos de producción bilingüe (y las omnipresentes diapositivas de PowerPoint) representan un obstáculo para los profesores universitarios debido a su falta de claridad y discusión; simplemente no son identificables tal como se presentan ni brindan mucha información o ejemplos para estudiantes monolingües.

El cambio de código, un subproducto del bilingüismo, es ahora un término que se encuentra incluso en los grafitis de barrios de minorías étnicas ("¿pueden los blancos cambiar de código?", un ejemplo encontrado). Tenga en cuenta que este es un término lingüístico que se utiliza para cambiar entre dos idiomas y no entre variedades locales o sociales de inglés.

Mi posición personal es que no existe el bilingüismo: siempre hay una lengua que sufre desgaste y otra que prevalece, principalmente debido a su posición prestigiosa sobre la otra lengua. Por otra parte, un niño expuesto a más de una lengua no puede ser verdaderamente monolingüe.

Para este curso (muy popular en universidades de toda Europa, tanto a nivel de pregrado como de posgrado), repasaremos en detalle los términos utilizados para discutir el bilingüismo y luego discutiremos, con la ayuda de libros y artículos publicados, quién puede considerarse bilingüe ( ¿O somos todos otra lengua latente?). ¿Puede el bilingüismo ser definido por el hablante, en lugar de por la "comunidad"? ¿Puede ser impuesto por el Estado? ¿Funciona un cerebro bilingüe de la misma manera que un cerebro monolingüe? Estas son preguntas de investigación que surgen como temas de disertación o tesis tanto en cursos de pregrado como de posgrado.

Who this is for?

This course is for motivated students aiming for TU / FH / Akademie - Bachelor Degree, in Vienna.
It follows a mentorship model, providing close guidance and structured support to help students prepare for both Matura and architecture admission exams with greater clarity, efficiency, and (hopefully) reduced risk of burnout.

Format & rhythm

• Recommended rhythm: 2 individual sessions / week, each 3–4 h, primarily held in person.
• Online sessions are offered only when in-person attendance is not possible.
• Start: ideally 9–12 months before the admission date.
