Hi, my name is Laura, I moved to Amsterdam to study Creative Business and am now working as a product manager for a music management company. Besides that, I've always had a passion for languages and have been teaching them in the past. I grew up both in Belgium (Flemish side) & the South of France which makes me perfectly bilingual. My french classes are designed for anybody looking to learn French whether you are an absolute beginner or already know the basics. About Me

Born in Belgium, I grew up in the South of France. When I turned 18, I moved to Australia for about 4 years and travelled another year around South East Asian countries and backpacked through Central America. So, as you probably have guessed, I love travelling, learning new languages, discovering new cultures and most importantly.. sharing all of this. I grew up speaking both Flemish and French, and quickly developed a passion for languages. I started teaching languages as a hobby and actually I love it now! I like to have a first meeting/conversation to get to know the students better and figure out what they want to learn so that I can better meet their needs. To me teaching is all about sharing knowledge in a fun, relaxed and creative way!

My belief is that each student is different and requires a tailor made lesson to meet that student’s needs and goals. Every class is personalised for your own profile and is adapted as needed. I give priority to conversation, convinced that even from the very first day, one can start to communicate in the new language and thus gain confidence to go on.

I base my courses on the four essential competencies: speaking, listening, writing and reading, always focusing on your personal goals and motivation. I progressively integrate phonetics, grammar, conjugation, vocabulary in the courses which always include practical exercises. You will also learn a lot about the culture as it is deeply linked to the language.

The pedagogic materials I choose are mostly created for native speakers : texts from literature, newspapers, radio podcasts, videos, songs.... Indeed, I am convinced that the learning process has to tackle « real subjects », as languages are alive and constantly changing. My main challenge is to help the learners to be able to « think » in the second language. The debate is the heart of my classroom, but always in a playful way, through many role games — for me learning a language is first and foremost a great joy !

Depending on your request, the class can focus on the improvement of your oral or written competencies. If you want to learn grammar or master your letter writing or comprehension skills, we will work on that. In case you want to maintain the level of your understanding and oral abilities, we will improve that.
