Multiple musical skills: exploring the oud, law and music science

An experienced graduate in music theory and oud/lute, I offer you a method which will allow you not only to learn to play the lute/oud, but also to decipher scores and improvise independently of the teacher afterwards. Each course will be based on theoretical notions and instrumental applications. The apprentice has the choice of doing oud sessions only, music theory only, or both at the same time.

I offer to accompany you in what you wish to practice: - Discovering the instrument with exercises and warm-ups, right hand techniques (plectrum or mediator) and left hand. I pay particular attention to gesture and posture, to relaxation for comfortable playing and quality sound. - We can of course learn pieces that you choose, or pieces that I suggest, with or without sheet music. - I can help develop improvisation if that's something you're interested in. - Theory in relation to practice, tones, modes, intervals, harmony... - And others according to demand. My classes are aimed at beginners as well as more advanced students who want to enrich their palette of expressiveness and musicality. It is important for me to offer caring support and listen to the needs of the student.

Having always learned everything on my own, today I am able to understand the learning difficulties linked to lack of self-confidence or the difficulty of finding a good teacher. Hi, my name is Youssef. I first picked up the guitar a couple of years ago, after i got inspired by guitar heroes like Clapton, Hendrix, Slash, Mayer.. I'm always on my journey because the learning never really stops. At the moment, i'm taking online lessons provided by the Berklee College of Music, and always looking to improve on the instrument. My classes are different depending on your level and age. With children from 7 to 12, we start by doing easy vocalization and start training the ear with intonation, we then have fun singing your favorite songs. With teenagers, I also start with some vocalization, a little more elaborate. Depending on the student's capabilities, we start establishing a comfortable range for them and then proceed to singing. For my older students ideally, I divide our lesson into 2 sections. We work on respiration and how the diaphragm works. We do scales and arpeggios and work on intonation. We then proceed to singing and putting into practice our technique. Some students might need more technique before they actually sing, I like to take things slowly and make sure the student feels confident and comfortable singing. I teach children, teenagers, and adults, from beginners to more advanced. Classical training enables you to sing in any kind of way, so don’t hesitate and let’s sing!

As an Italian Opera singer, I help since many years singers with the right pronunciation of the repertoire they sing, helping them in shaping the language in a clear way, which also helps the singing. Our lesson will involve speaking, pronunciation exercises and singing. We will start the lesson by reading the text and finding the right direction and emphasis. We will focus on the sounds and how to produce them. In the second part of the lesson, we will apply all of the above to the singing!

Experienced teacher of Oud and oriental Arabic singing for over 11 years, I am Lebanese and currently residing in Germany. I studied for 8 years at the Lebanese National Conservatory. I taught at the Casa Beethoven Academy in Lebanon and gave private lessons. In addition, I was conductor of the Loubnan Assalam oriental orchestra for over 5 years. My recommendation for learning the Oud is to start with the study of notes and musical notation before tackling pieces. Although some students prefer to play songs directly, understanding the basics of musical notation allows for faster progress in the long run. The only requirement is the willingness to spend some time at the piano. I conduct my lessons using a combination of 4 cameras for optimum visibility, and a quality microphone which my students find very helpful. CURRICULUM I do not believe one method works for all students. I have used many different lesson books and resources over the years. For beginners I like to use Alfred method books for basics concepts and for Classical and Jazz Piano technique I like to use ABRSM books (grade 1-8). If my student feels that they can learn better from another books, I am glad to adapt my teaching strategies to their needs. Along with the lesson books below, I use a lot of supplemental materials based on the students' interests. I also aim to teach their favorite songs as soon as possible. I like to clearly explain and demonstrate piano technique. In this way, the students are able to apply the information on similar passages from all genres of music.
