Piano lessons tailored to the student: classical and/ or pop in an individual trajectory
From 36.43 $ /h
Music is complex, emotional, and personal. Whether you've been playing piano for years or just starting out, everyone has their own story, which you can tell through music. Even at the Queen Elisabeth Competition, mistakes are made; the most important thing is your own interpretation and the personality you bring to your work. I work with the student towards this personal interpretation in the form of a routine. With this routine, you master both the technical and emotional aspects of piano playing: from posture and wrist movement to reading rhythms and interpreting dynamics.
The most important thing here is the student. I've prepared a basic package with various components: sight-reading, playing by ear, dynamics and articulation, Italian vocabulary, accompaniment practice, and more. You can indicate what suits you best, and we'll work on that. Whether you prefer to learn pop songs or classical pieces: the choice is yours.
I also offer a unique program for the very youngest children, allowing their musical talents to flourish. While the focus remains on piano, other instruments (including percussion) are also introduced to broaden their musical horizons.
Not only are you taken into account when choosing the right technique, but if you have problems combining it with other hobbies or work, for example, and therefore can't come every week or two, that's no problem at all. I take that into account and offer flexible hours. I also cater to people with stage fright, autism, ADHD, stress-related issues, and more. I respond to your needs and ensure you reach the piano level you desire.

Extra information
If you only want to learn pop piano, it's okay to have just an electric piano, but if classical piano is an option, it's essential to have an acoustic piano (bar or grand piano) at home that can be played daily. Depending on your desired level, you might be able to buy a rhythm course or sheet music book, but this isn't strictly necessary. I can provide copies of most sheet music. Studying might be the least fun part, but it's important that you can still make time for it (for example, so you don't have to go to basketball practice every day). Although I understand you won't want to work every day from the start, be prepared to work towards playing the piano at least three times a week.
I also only teach at my home, so you must also be able to get there/always bring your child.
Of course, I'll accommodate your needs, so if you'd like to play music just once a week, just let me know. The list below should give you a general idea of what's expected:
<6 years 0-4x/week WITH parents intensively supervised (playful) practice
<9y 10min 0-5x/week WITH parents intensively supervised practice
<13y 15min 4-7x/week WITH or without parental supervision
+13y 30min 5-7x/week practice with parents in the neighborhood
———————————
Do you want to pursue higher studies in music?
+16y 1h 5-7x/week
Conservatory level: 3 hours+ per day!
Can't make it? No problem! We're in this together. Be open with me, so we can fine-tune your goals and take on easier sections.

About Me
I am currently student at the conservatory of Ghent (KASK en Conservatorium) and I graduated from MUDA Kunsthumaniora in Evergem, where I was taught by Simon De Poorter (composition) and Dorothea Haers (piano). I've been playing piano for 13 years and studying composition for three years (currently taught by Joris Blanckaert) and want to share my passion for music! I am 19 years old and I teach to both childeren and adults. My lessons are all about music. I currently only teach piano, but have taught music theory and music history in the past - all of which I combine to teach the piano lesson that suits the wants and needs of the pianist.
Education
I study in KASK en Conservatorium in Ghent since 2024 (composition).
I graduated from MUDA Kunsthumaniora in Evergem in 2024 (piano 3 years, compositie 1 year).

Experience / Qualifications
Throughout my studies I have picked up many lessons from my classes in music theory, music history, (tonal) harmony, solfège, ear training, sightreading (all 10 years), 13 years piano lessons, 4 years singing classes, 3 years composition, 2 years guitar, 7 years choir, 3 years accompanying practice and 3 years improv which have given me a broad knowledge in music.
Last year I taught music in individual lessons to adolescents and adults between the age of 16 to 45, but this is by no means a limit. In the past I also taught childeren individually and I have also given music workshops to childeren. The individual lessons were one of the following: piano, singing, music theory (music history, solfège,...) and composition.
