About Me

Hello!

My name is Roope and I'm a professional drummer. I come from Finland and currently live in Helsinki. I lived in Amsterdam for six years and did a Masters degree MA in jazz in the Conservatory of Amsterdam in 2021.

Music has always played a big role in my life. I have grown up listening and playing classical, jazz, hiphop, progressive/psychedelic rock, and pretty much all kinds of stuff, which makes it easy for me to understand different interests and styles.

I come from a musical family, plus my parents and many relatives are teachers. For me teaching has always been a thing that I enjoyed to do, and I feel that it goes pretty naturally for me.

Besides of music Im very fascinated about visual arts, geometry, nature and skateboarding.

Feel free to ask me anything, Im more than happy to help!! :)

Education

Conservatory of Turku (2014), music performance, drums
Conservatory of Amsterdam, Bachelor in jazz music BA (2019), drums
Conservatory of Amsterdam, Master in jazz music MA (2021), drums

I have been studying drums with Jukkis Uotila, Martijn Vink, Marcel Serierse, Lucas Van Merwijk, Haye Jellema, Francesco Ciniglio, Luca Santaniello etc.

I started music at the age of 5 with classical piano.

Experience / Qualifications

I've been an active, performing drummer and musician since 2010 and have been giving private music lessons for almost a decade now.

2014-2015, before moving to Amsterdam I worked as the main drum teacher in a private music school in Paimio, Finland, called Varsinais-Suomen kansanopisto.

Since 2010 I have worked on/off as a substitute teacher in elementary schools & high schools in Finland.

Improvisation for beginners and intermediates (any instrument)
For many people improvisation is a scary word and having to improvise in a group or band is an alarming prospect. However, this really does not need to be the case. As long as you have a basic knowledge of how to play your instrument you will be able to improvise. Once you know the principle of how chords are formed you will soon be improvising with ease. If you play a keyboard instrument you will be able to improvise your own pieces and be able to entertain your friends at a moments notice. On the other hand if you play in a band or a group you will be well equipped to do a real 'jam' session. Whether you play a single line instrument (flute, saxophone, trumpet, violin etc.) or keyboard instruments, this class is for you.

TURKISH REED FLUTE, NEY, NAY LESSONS FOR BEGINNERS
Turkish reed flute is an essential instrument of Turkish Classcial Music. It has a deep and dense culture dating from 13. century around. If you want to learn about how to perform it you first need a teacher educated by masters on this field. As of many teachers you can find online but you make sure that not every tutor meets with traditional style. Solfege and method are inseperable parts of the lessons. So for beginners and intermediate students must follow a compotent tutor to learn about the way of classic form.
