About Me

Hi there,

Looking for some extra tuition? Whether you're trying to learn a new skill or want a helping hand revising a known subject, book a lesson today!

As a student myself, I know how difficult revision can be. However, that's why I'm here! Through my tuition sessions, I will help students achieve their goals by creating a tailored package to help get them on track.

Education

I've achieved an A average at GCSE and have completed my A-levels. I'm now undergoing the process of getting my undergraduates bachelors degree in the field of humanities.

Experience / Qualifications

I've gone through the education system in England and I have gained an average of A/A* GCSE in English. In addition to this, I have previously tutored for the General Certificate of Secondary Education in English and English as a second language. I'm an experienced private tutor and have worked with a range of ages and levels. In addition to this, I taught English for two months in a class setting, so I am also comfortable planning material and instructing groups.

Introduction to philosophy: mind and consciousness
What is the nature of consciousness? Is there a self? Is the mind identical to the brain? Can life have meaning in a physical universe? These are big questions that philosophy can help tackle. Together, we will talk about how to understand these questions more precisely, look at some answers, and learn how to approach both questions and answers using critical thinking tools. Who is this class for? Students who've never taken philosophy, adults who are interested in exploring big ideas, and scientists and entrepreneurs who'd like to learn how to think about these questions in a more rigorous way.

Ask me about Jamaica! Are you curious to learn more about Jamaica- to go beyond Reggae and Jerk? Its history, people, politics and culture?
Ever wondered about life in Jamaica beyond the lights of Kingston’s allure? This class offers an ethnographic journey of practises and cultures in rural Jamaica, illustrated through photos, songs and videos. Let's explore life in rural Jamaica! Born and raised in a remote rural district/village, I will take you on an authentic journey of first hand experiences- reliving fond childhood memories, the stories my grandmother told me and what a typical day is like. This will be grounded in the history and culture of Jamaica. Coming from a background in diplomacy, sharing about Jamaica's culture and historical experiences has always been essential for opening the door to a deeper unerstanding. I have an avid interest in other cultures and always take the time to explore wherever I go. Having been to South and Central America, Asia, North America and Europe, I know the unique value of such rich experiences. Whenever I was home-sick while posted abroad, talking about my homeland was the only cure. I will share with you all there is about living in rural Jamaica, from different perspectives of my childhood, teenage years and adult life. One unique bit is that the district's enduring small farms form the centrepiece around which everything revolves. Come prepared with a curious mind, and if you want to make notes take your pen and paper or do so on your devices. It is important for me that your are learning, so I encourage you to ask questions. Let's go beyond Kington's enigma!

Language courses - Literature - history - philosophy
Arriving in Quebec, in Sherbrooke by October 05, 2022, I would like to offer my services as a language teacher (French, English, Spanish, Italian), literature and history, philosophy and physical sciences / chemistry. Holder of a secondary school diploma in Letters, I was a student in a French literary preparatory class for entry to the École Normale Supérieure in Paris (Lyon Sciences Humaines branch), which allowed me to acquire a significant fundamental knowledge and understanding. After years of study, I taught French, English and the other subjects that I offer tutoring, either as a private teacher or in public or private schools. My last experience is that of Spanish teacher for the Sainte-Marie Catholic private school group in Dinan, Brittany, France. I am immediately available for tutoring, all levels of high school, but also for university.

French - English - humanities private lessons
Graduated with a master's degree in human sciences, my love of the French language, whether in terms of reading, comprehension, oral presentation, writing and literary knowledge, is just waiting to be shared. The same goes for English, my CERCL level being C1. Besides that, it is also possible that I can help you in the humanities courses. Each person having their own background, the first course aims to determine what are the short and long-term objectives, what are the student's abilities and difficulties and what are the sources of motivation for learning. When all of this has been discerned together, a course is mapped out to the final destination which is the achievement of the student's goals.

Higher and Standard Level History International Baccalaureate
History in the International Baccalaureate can be an incredibly demanding subject. It requires not only extensive knowledge of historical events, but also skilful strategy and excellent essay writing adeptness. I have designed my sessions to incorporate all three of these aspects by basing the teaching around your work and improvement. This allows me to personalise the lesson to work on the areas which are most helpful for you. I will teach you about essay writing specifically for the IB - the structure which gained me a level 7 in IB HL History when I graduated two years ago. I can also teach efficient revision techniques to retain not only the largest amount of education, but also the most important information.

Tutoring/test preparation History (At home, online or at my home!)
Do you have trouble with History? I'm coming to save you! History is a subject with many questions, from which one can learn a lot. Questions about the past, or questions about the present. I am Merijn, 20 years old, and student of History at the Free University of Amsterdam. Ever since primary school, I have been interested in the profession. In addition, I spend a lot of free time reading subject-related books and watching programs, documentaries, etc.. I took the history course at the Atheneum and eventually passed. I still had a hard time answering questions on my test. I often wrote 8 pages full just to make sure I got something right, haha. Giving witty, relevant answers is very important here, and I've learned to master this over the years. I can help with questions from primary school level, up to 6th year VWO, in which it does not matter which period in history this is about. In addition, I can help with teaching material offered by your school, but I can also bring my own material or ask other questions, which might make it just a bit easier to understand. Hopefully I'm speaking to you, because I'm always ready to answer questions and help you to get a better grade or better mastery of the subject! If there is a need for an introduction, this is certainly possible. Cosy! And don't hesitate to send me an app outside class hours if you have an urgent question! :)
