AutoCAD is the original CAD software used by millions around the world, and it is one of the essential software in engineering and architecture design. All students should learn this software as it is fundamental for 2D or 3D modeling. We practice different subjects step by step with each other in this course and at the end, you present your final work which is your work sample in your portfolio to apply for jobs.

CAD allows creating pieces or parts and put them together to conceive machines, ships, buildings and anything imaginable. Creating a 3D model is the first step to 3D printing, CNC machining and fabrication in general. Also it is necessary to do simulations or calculations using a myriad of techniques. FreeCAD is a free and open source software that follows the parametric design paradigm. That conception in design is the same in many other CAD software, like, for example, CATIA, Roadworks, Solid Edge, Inventor and Fusion360, just to mention some of them. This means that once we have acquire a good basis in creating pieces and assemblies in FreeCAD, adapt to any other of the former mentioned would take a bunch of hours.

That is why mathematical based engineering courses (such as Statics or Strength of Materials) are mostly boring for the students. The other problem that many students have with courses with strong mathematical background is that their mathematical basis is weak and therefore they cannot follow the course. I usually try to start my course from the basics and therefore actively engage as many students as possible in the class (even the weak ones). I also usually try to inform the students about the importance of what they are learning in the class by giving them some examples. This makes them more inspired and interested into what they are learning. If you have extra questions before starting a class, don't hesitate to ask me :)

I graduated with a first class Beng in Mechatronic engineering from Lancaster university. I can tutor students across a variety of mechanical and electrcial engineering modules.
