Introduction to philosophy: mind, self, and consciousness
What is the nature of consciousness? Is there a self? Is the mind identical to the brain? Can life have meaning in a physical universe? These are big questions that philosophy can help tackle. Together, we will talk about how to understand these questions more precisely, look at some answers, and learn how to approach both questions and answers using critical thinking tools. Who is this class for? Students who've never taken philosophy, adults who are interested in exploring big ideas, and scientists and entrepreneurs who'd like to learn how to think about these questions in a more rigorous way.

Hello everybody! My name is Dora. I am from Thessaloniki, Greece and I live in Maastricht, Netherlands. I graduated from the Department of Philology with a specialization in Classics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. I am an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher. Currently I am doing my master’s degree in Media Studies: Digital Cultures at Maastricht University. With the four-month Erasmus internship as a teacher of Greek language at the University of Zaragoza, Spain, I had the opportunity to gain teaching experience and interact with people of different cultural background. It improved my communication skills and boosted my self-confidence and, also, gave me the chance to realise the importance of digital media in education. I speak Greek, English and French. All the educational material is provided by me! I am looking forward to meeting you!

Speed-Reading, Philosophy, Literacy, Literature, Psychology
Here's what I can do for you: - Develop a reading habit (a book a week is not an unreasonable goal); - Teach you how to speed-read so you can read twice, or thrice, as fast without loss in comprehension (speed-reading is really just a fancy name for college-level reading skills, a phenomenon which can be taught and practised without recourse to magical beliefs); - Take you through a tour through the body of Western Classics that Wikipedia defines as a "body of high culture literature, music, philosophy, and works of art ... from Socrates to Wittgenstein in philosophy, and from Homer to James Joyce in literature"; - And finally, be an English conversational partner and personal tutor who does all the usual things to help you enjoy speaking and reading in English (about how English is formally taught, most "dreaded" English tests and exams are really variants of IQ tests that have little to no relations to how a language is learned and acquired).
Learn (modern) Greek for everyday use, university, tourism with FUN and passion / (ancient) Greek for school and university
I am a native speaker of Greek. I graduated from a Greek high school and, later, the University of Athens where I attended courses in pedagogics, psychology, and linguistics. During our lessons, I'll help you develop your skills (oral/written, and not only). I'll also try to help you improve your pronunciation and spelling. I assign homework and after I receive it, correct it thoroughly additionally providing a lot of remarks/examples if they are necessary. I worked at a language center between 2009-2016 where I was a director of studies and taught mainly English as a foreign/second language. Since 2005, when I first started teaching Greek, I have taught children and adults on a variety of language proficiency levels, mainly individually. I constantly seek progress, meaning that I study further through reading books/articles concerning didactics/methodology and learning difficulties (chiefly dyslexia), observing other teachers as well as attending seminars (online or face-to-face). During my lessons I use : - Skype/Whatsapp/Messenger to connect with you, - Google Docs to keep notes, which you can check at any time and they are yours to keep, - sketch board me to make mind maps to show connections between ideas, etc. - books, PPP, word docs, diagrams, pics, etc. - pronunciation/spelling/grammar games, - authentic materials were taken from websites. I adore my profession and desire each and every one of my students be satisfied with the lesson. That's why I make sure the atmosphere is stress-free and nice. I also want my lessons to be as effective and close to real-life needs as possible. Therefore, I make sure they are well-prepared, although they can be altered at any point, should such an opportunity arise. I like explaining things in a variety of ways as well as make use of dictionaries, diagrams, etc. When it comes to students who want to obtain certificates, I am very demanding. What can I teach? - I would love to help you improve/develop all language skills (speaking/writing-listening/reading + grammar/vocabulary/pronunciation), - I would love to help you prepare for state certificates such as A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2. - I would love to help you with homework and assignments (literature, history) from school and university (but please contact me about that IN ADVANCE).
