Hi, my name is Jim. I'm an electronic music producer with a Master’s degree in Music from the Fontys Academy of Arts (Rockacademie) in Tilburg, Netherlands. Music has always been my way of exploring the world — through raw field recordings, synthesis, and emotional storytelling. Over the past 12 years, I’ve developed a complete, self-sufficient creative process: from concept to composition, sound design to vocal production, mixing, mastering, and live performance. I’m passionate about helping others gain those same end-to-end technical skills — so they can bring their own musical vision fully to life.

As Malvae, I’ve written, sung, recorded, produced, mixed, mastered, and performed all of my work. My music reached #17 in the Spotify Viral 50 charts in the USA, gathered millions of streams, and featured in international film productions including King of the Streets and Netflix’s Terrace House Japan. One of the most formative moments in my career was my Amazonas album project, where I traveled into the Amazon rainforest to record and manipulate natural sounds. 90% of that album was created entirely from these field recordings, reshaped through granular synthesis and advanced sound design into a cohesive sonic journey. That experience deeply shaped how I approach my music and how I teach sound design and composition.

I’ve headlined shows at iconic venues like Melkweg Amsterdam with immersive, self-built audiovisual live sets using Ableton Live, modular gear, sequencers, and Resolume for live integrated visuals. I curated my own events and performed at venues like A’dam Tower, OT301. I also teach at studios such as Wisseloord in Hilversum, guiding students through the technical and creative intersections of sound and performance.

Selected Works & Collaborations:

My EP Like Bees to a Hive began as a soundscape for fashion brand Lobomar’s collection Final Orders, Please, presented at the Amsterdam World Museum. I collaborated with South African poet Julia-Beth Harris, integrating her spoken word into a seamless, atmospheric release. From sequential Prophet 6 textures to ADX1 drum machine layers and detailed field recordings, I handled every layer, from concept through multitrack production to the final live performance in London.

My Chrysalis EP, released as a limited-edition heavyweight red vinyl, pushed that even further, combining ethereal vocals, analog grit, and unique textures to craft an emotionally rich release. I personally led every part of the project’s technical and creative execution, from arrangement and vocal production to final mixing, mastering and vinyl press preparation.

In addition to my own projects, I’ve worked as a vocal producer and mixing engineer, including on Esther Veen’s EP Before I Go, where I handled recording, complex vocal layering, creative processing, production, multivocal arrangement and final mixing to deliver a polished, high-impact sound.

Lessons are available online or in-person at my studio in Amsterdam. For online students, I use high-quality real-time tools that allow us to collaborate with full-resolution audio directly from your DAW — no screen sharing limitations, just real work in real time.

My own musical path often started by blending the sounds I encountered in the world, whether from distant rainforests or my own voice , into something personal and expressive.

My name is Jim, and I am an electronic music producer based in Amsterdam, Netherlands, with a Master’s degree in Music from the esteemed Rockacademie in Tilburg. Under the name Malvae, I write, produce, mix, master and perform my own music, achieving placements on Spotify’s Viral charts, features in films and Netflix series, and accumulating over 7 million streams. Alongside my artistry, I have experience working with PR agencies and promoting my music, which has helped me build a fanbase of over 10,000 Spotify followers. Piano is the instrument used by the romantics to make their most beautiful music, but also by the most experimental and modern composers to create their craziest music wonders. Isn't it a great instrument to play?

With more than 5 years of experience teaching in music schools and 15 years as a private piano teacher, I developed an efficient and "fun-but-efficient" way to teach how to play the instrument. Ableton Live, Logic or Cubase are the most used computer programs to create your own music today. From electronica, to house, techno, R&B, Hip-Hop, etc. Everything can be done easily with your personal computer if you know how.
And that's how I will help you get the music you have in your head to the computer. I will teach you all the techniques that are necesary, like Mixing, Mastering, Synthesis, Audio manipulation as well as some of the most usefull software instruments to reach your goals.
You don't need to have any experience to start the lessons, just your personal computer and motivation!

I am studying Bachelor Pop Guitar at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I can help you in different matters, such as performance, ear training or music theory. All the aspects will be link together in order to learn effectively!

Music is Play! and everyone is its own game.
Understand and make only the music you like. If it isn't fun, it can't be music!

I studied a classical piano bachelor, and later a jazz master and a live electronics master. In the meantime, I have been teaching music and playing synths, drum machines, and computers. It's longer than 5 years now!
Electronic music is a very vast world. The possibilities are endless. But do you need to learn everything, or only what interests you to make the music you want to do? From listening and analyzing a song you like, we will go through the necessary knowledge for you to achieve it:
- What do you need to build your home studio in order to create something similar?
- Which instruments (or plugins) are being used.
- Whether or not a knowledge of music theory is necessary.
- And in which different ways / through which paths could you achieve something like what you desire?

At the same time that we analyze and learn, you are also going to be encouraged to create! Practice makes the master, and the more you create, the more familiar you'll be with the tools and the environments that we learn in class. A part of the class is also going to be dedicated to listening to what you created and going through different ways we may improve it.

For people interested in live electronics (live-processing an acoustic instrument or programming live sets), I also have knowledge of Max MSP and I can teach the basics or help you program any kind of device you propose.

PD: I have also experienced imparting piano lessons, which is also a very important part of my professional practice. In case you are interested, it is also possible to mix the two worlds and create any kind of path between piano, synths, beats, and home studio techniques.
