Piano, Composition and Music Theory lessons – Create Your Own Music Worlds

Piano, Composition and Music Theory lessons – Create Your Own Music Worlds

I am a professional composer, performer, pianist, and sound artist who believes that sharing knowledge and experience is one of the most important parts of our lives. We are creative human beings by nature. Are you passionate about music and sound and would you like to expand your knowledge? Do you want to learn how to compose your own music or play the piano? There is never too late to start or to continue with your passion! I believe that education is a dialogue and I adapt the course plan according to the level and the age of students in order to develop their potential. I am always trying to bring positivity, passion, and curiosity for learning. Depending on your interest I can help you with: Piano: I teach using different methods, according to your needs and goals. I always care about setting up and cultivating a healthy technique of playing, trying to bring a complex approach to interpretation or improvisation. Composition: Basic principles of creating a musical piece, theory of composition, notation (ranging from classical to graphic and open scores), instrumentation, orchestration, arranging, creating electroacoustic music, computer-aided composition, and recording. Music Theory: Harmony, rhythm, aural skills, music analysis, and history of music – these are some of the topics inseparably belonging to music education. Since I have many years of experience teaching music theory within all levels of education – from basics to advanced – we can find a way how to approach those topics with enthusiasm and creativity and learn as much as possible :)

Oboe Lessons - Music Theory Lessons - Composition Lessons

Oboe Lessons - Music Theory Lessons - Composition Lessons

Hi! My name is Zoë and I am an oboist. I have completed a Bachelor of Music at the Australian National University and am now starting my Master of Music at the Koninklijk Conservatorium van Den Haag. I love to share my passion for music with others, and in my lessons you will learn about music that interests you and most importantly, have fun! I have been teaching for six years. I have experience teaching all ages and abilities, in individual lesson environments, group lessons, reed making lessons, small ensemble tutoring, and orchestral tutoring. I have experience with all genres of classical music, and have a strong background in music theory, aural skills, musicology, and composition. Lessons with me will incorporate all skills involved to become a well rounded musician. Some of the highlights of my musical career so far have included being principal oboist and orchestral manager of the Australian National University Orchestra and performing E. Goossens' Oboe Concerto at their 2022 Concerto Gala, playing tutti oboe in the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, principal oboe in the Australian Romantic and Classical Orchestra's Young Mannheim Symphonists Orchestra, and performing in the Olive Trio, a chamber music ensemble consisting of oboe, violin and harp, made up of members of the Canberra Symphony Orchestra. I give lessons in Dutch and English.

Experimental Music Composition lessons and tutoring

Experimental Music Composition lessons and tutoring

Dear reader, The lesson will be tailored-made depending on your needs and interests. My curiosity and knowledge are versatile and broad. Here is an example of subjects we could touch upon together: - Experimental music composition with an emphasis on electronic music (fixed media composition, live set, multichannel composition), composition mixing instrumental and electronics, algorithmic music - Music programming (SuperCollider) - Experimental music history + specific care of being as inclusive and diverse as possible - Listening sessions - Creating bridges between classical and experimental music - Notation: looking at different scores or ways of writing music than the more traditional ones - Sound synthesis techniques, spectral analysis of sounds and general understanding of timbre - Music theory with a specific emphasis on harmony and so-called rational tuning systems - Basics of recording, mixing, editing, and processing sounds (Live Ableton) - Music research — for instance, if you have to handle written music assignments or carry on specific music research projects - Coaching & methodology to enable you to carry your music project from A to Z - Sharing experiences in the music field and offering guidance and motivational support I am especially interested in working with female and non-binary students who I believe still need extra support in this field but am generally open to all kinds of people, ages and backgrounds! 🎼 Music theory & music theory clearly explained, with examples on the piano

🎼 Music theory & music theory clearly explained, with examples on the piano

Do you have trouble reading music? Do you love listening to music, but don't understand time signatures, keys or chords? Music theory often sounds abstract, but with the right explanation and concrete examples it suddenly becomes a lot more logical, and even fun :) For whom? - Beginner or advanced musicians who want to better understand what they are doing. - Students preparing for music theory exams (e.g. music school, entrance exams). - Independent artists/producers who want to deepen their musical knowledge. - Anyone who is curious about the language behind music. What can you expect? - Clear explanation, at your own pace. - Theory made immediately applicable with examples on the piano. - Extra attention to insight instead of learning dry rules by heart. - Tutoring fully tailored to your level and goal (classical, pop, songwriting, production, ...). About me I obtained a Grade 8 diploma in Music Theory and also a Grade 8 Piano from the Royal Schools of Music. In addition, I hold a diploma in Audio Engineering from Hofa College. I am active as a music artist and producer myself. Thanks to this combination of classical training and practical experience, I know how important it is to make theory understandable, concrete, and musical. I use my own piano during lessons to clarify everything visually and audibly. Possible topics: - Learn to read music. - Scales, chords & harmony. - Form and analysis (classical, jazz or pop). - Rhythm, time signatures & tempo. - Music theory for producers/songwriters. - Songwriting. - Preparation for exams or entrance tests. Practical - 1-on-1 lessons, online or live (if you don't live too far away). - I provide materials, or we work with what you need. - No prior knowledge required. Lessons adapted to your level. 🎶 Feel free to send me a message with your questions or goals. We'll see how I can best help you.

“ Stephen's lesson on harmony was just what I needed! I had a few specific questions to brush up on, and he explained everything super clearly and in a way that made it easy to apply to my work. He's knowledgeable and approachable—I’d definitely recommend him to anyone looking to deepen their understanding of music theory! Or if you're like me and need a quick refresh of all the things you forgot years ago from school 😅 ”

“ Marloes does an excellent job of understanding the student's needs and goals. Always attentive during the lessons, she provides clear/targeted feedback on areas of improvement and actively listens to your singing. Most importantly, she creates a comfortable/safe environment to experiment with your voice. As a beginner in singing, I highly recommend anyone who wants to get started singing to take lessons with her! ”

“ Our first lesson was an exploration of the feeling of holding the viola and the bow and of playing some notes pizzicato and with the bow. Maya was enthusiastic, patient and flexible in adapting to what I could and wanted to try. Her calm approach (letting learning sink in, allowing a process of getting used to the playing and learning) made me feel very comfortable and inspired! ”
