When it comes to exam preparation, my strategy is always textbook oriented. My principle in education has always been to know what I don't know and then deal with my not-knowing of that chapter/area. I like to use what is known/understood as a warm up and get creative with it, probing the student's baselines and tactics. The warm up also gives you the winning-feeling about the subject and this is a feeling that grows and brings clarity such that it guided me year in, year out to go and understand every chapter to answer every topical exam question, and it can for you too.
